- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2010This book is very helpful to companies of all sizes. In fact, managers of all departments can be greatly helped by this book. It would be interesting to know how many hours of training could be better redirected to hiring the right people. I have been through many interviews, and very few of them applied half the principles taught in this book.
Companies are always trying to be the most competitive and to increase market share. It is amazing that more time is not spent on building the right team. I am convinced that many companies are trying to create something great, but they have the wrong ingredients.
This book helps you take a step back and evaluate where you are spending your time. The author realizes that people are built differently and the person that may make the top sales rep will probably make a terrible project manager.
Whether you are a small shop or an organization of 50,000, this is a great read that will help you put the priority back to where it needs to be. Great teams clearly start with great people. No amount of training will ever teach the wrong person how to be the right one. Learn how to evaluate, find and recruit the talent that will build the "A" team.
Every manager that has ever had to think about who to hire or why to hire them should start here! I believe that my organization has a head start into building a better company, and it starts with the right people.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2015Very informative, however, it made me reflect deeply on whether I was always an A-player. It gave sound suggestions to recruiting a great team. I think I only disagree slightly with the coaching aspect, particularly for entry-level positions. Though this all depends on the environment and the urgency to produce results. Thanks for a thought provoking read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2015I really liked this book, but I wish it was more tactical in nature. I was hoping for more unique strategies to help me find/hire superstars. Instead, most of the focus was on the argument that you should only hire A-Players.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2010Can your business afford to settle for anything less than A-Players? Mine can't. Eric guides the reader through the steps to create a team of top talent. I've found his principles incredibly helpful in my role leading a line of business in a global corporation. We often say our success depends on our people. I'm passing this book along to my directors with a message -- don't settle for less than A-Players! This book helps us identify A-Player profiles and then how to get out there and find them. The book is loaded with A-Player Principles and chapters close with A-Player Payoff Points that you'll go back to for reference.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2015This is one of the best books I have read on building quality teams and I quote from it frequently. Highly recommended. Peter Smith, Author, Hiring Squirrels
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2016unrealistic. millenials are not A people and never will be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
I selected 3 or 4 books to increase my knowledge about recruiting. This one seemed good on the paper, and the intro talks about why an A player is important to a business are interesting. However after reading it entirely I am not satisfied at all. It is a lot of paraphrasing with very few practical advices. Many subchapters parts are named like this : "Start a hiring process that works !" or "Hire an internal recruiter that makes his job".OK, but what is an efficient internal recruiter ? hat is a hiring process that works ? There are very few organised and practical info when it comes to practical business sphere. I did not find interesting questions to ask to candidates and a process to follow during an interview for example.
