When octogenarian sleuth Myrtle Clover discovers Naomi Pelter’s dead body during a book club meeting, the other members seem shocked. But Myrtle can read between the lines. Naomi had riled everyone up by flirting with other people’s husbands, arguing with neighbors, and generally making a nuisance of herself. Murdering troublemakers is the oldest trick in the book. The book club members seem too sweet to be killers, but Myrtle knows better than to judge books by their covers. Myrtle’s investigation into the murder will take a more novel approach than her police chief son’s by-the-book methods. Can Myrtle and her widower sidekick uncover the killer…before he writes them off for good?

Enjoyable, full of humor with good narration, sets the plot in a small town with a retired English teacher. She loves gardening and decorating with the gnomes. When a body is found murder at the book club. She knows there is a killer among them, the deceased was flirting with too many husbands. she is more than ready to solve. . The narration was good, clear voice and added to this story. Good series. Given audio for my voluntary review

Another day, another murder. At least, that's how it is in the small town of Bradley, North Carolina. In this sixth installment, Myrtle Clover finds yet another body. This time, it is the body of Naomi Pelter, one of the few eligible single women in the town. And though she seems all sugar, there's some spice underneath her charming exterior. That's probably why she ended up dead.

Myrtle hardly knew Naomi, despite her living in her neighborhood. When Red, Myrtle's police chief son, confirms that it is murder, Myrtle is determined once again to beat him and the state police to the answer. But things aren't so easy for Myrtle, especially once she begins to wade through the town's gossip mill to try and uncover motives. And as she gets closer to the answer, another body turns up. Now Myrtle must hurry to discover who the killer is before she's the next to turn up dead.

This Myrtle Clover book is one of the funniest that I have read. The climax had me crying I was laughing so hard. Yet the book managed to keep the tension at a nice, steady hum while I was laughing. The relationship between Miles and Myrtle is so sweet and it grows even more in this book. Their friendship is one reason I love reading this series. They are so different, yet they complement each other very well.

If you liked the other Myrtle Clover books, this is a great book to read. The mystery is exciting, the drama delightful, and Myrtle has as much spunk as ever. This book is one of the most fun reads I've had this year. If you want some laughter with your suspense and drama, this is the Myrtle Clover book for you.

I have been a fan of the Myrtle Clover mysteries for a long time. I really enjoyed this one too. There is always some excitement to keep my interest.

I like the characters of Myrtle, her sidekick Miles and her chief of police son, Red. But I'd give this book only 2 and 1/2 stars if I could split them. Because, while I hate to nit-pick, silly errors can be distracting and darned annoying when you really want to relax and enjoy a book. Examples: "None-the-less" used where it should have been "no less," a glass being called a cup and then a glass, a living room couch being called "weathered" although clearly it isn't out in the weather . . . Just little avoidable errors like that. Also, Myrtle is a retired English teacher. So why did she name her black, female cat Pasha? In fact, why did writer Craig not know that pasha describes a male general of the Ottoman Empire or an orange-brown butterfly? The cat is neither male nor orange-brown. Even writers of light, frothy stories ought to research like real authors do. Or, get an editor to catch sloppy errors.

I LOVE this series!!! I eagerly look forward to each new Myrtle adventure and yes I know Miles is her "sidekick" but have come to think of them as a team. There's no romance but lots of love and caring and like how both are feisty and smart. I really enjoy that despite their age there is nothing slowing them down or stopping them from trying. They know their limits without overdoing it and each book moves along quite nicely. The gnome usage is hilarious and sparingly and I love when they make an appearance. How inventive and unique!! I like that the main characters are the typical 20-30sih range they're adults and act like real adults. The books are fun, clever and a fabulous cozy read. If you haven't checked any books out, jump in and you'll fall in love with the characters and want the rest. Oh and NO cliffhangers!

A Body At Book Club (Myrtle Clover Mysteries 6)...is another great read in the Myrtle Clover Mystery Series. Once again, Myrtle comes upon not one but two dead people from the garden and book clubs. Myrtle asks Wanda the psychic (her friend Miles cousin) for her assistance in helping to solve the murder cases. While Myrtle loves to try to solve murder cases, her son Red, the police chief, wants her to be safe and to keep out of trying to solve them. It was while Myrtle was trying to solve the first murder, one of the women she thought of as a suspect, turns up dead in almost the same spot as the first one. Myrtle does most of this solo, this time, because she had words with Miles over her cat Pasha who went missing. To add to Myrtle's agendas of solving the murders, finding Pasha, and entertaining her grandson, Myrtle finds out that Red, has scheduled a tour for her at Greener Pastures. This really made Myrtle boil. Greener Pastures is the last place Myrtle would want to be. Myrtle does a great job in "saving the day". Can't wait for another Myrtle Clover Mystery.

I bought this book yesterday (on April 6th) and coiuldn't put it down til I found out who the killer was. Some say cozy mysteries are formulistic but isn't there a bit of formula in every genre? Myrtle Clover stands out as nopt being willing to just watch soap operas and sit in her rocking chair. She pokes around in local murders much to the exasperation of her son who is the chief of police. I have bought the first five of the books and plan to go on to purchase the remaining 11 in time. A fun read that wiles away some time. What more can a person ask for in a book than to be entertained. :)

Myrtle Clover may be in her eighties but she is still going strong. As soon as I submit this review I'm going to read her next adventure, that says a lot considering my erratic reading patterns. Read this and you will enjoy yourself.
