Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this first installment of a three-book series featuring a search and rescue team, shaky writing undermines a promising premise. After years of aliases, international spy Lacey Galloway Montgomery holds the key to a return to personal stability in the Ex-6 encryption/decryption program she's developed. Lacey hopes it will revolutionize the National Security Agency and rehabilitate her reputation as a traitor who allegedly murdered her husband, John. The beautiful, widowed MIT Ph.D.'s heart, however, has always belonged to Jim Micah, the "Iceman," John's best high school buddy. Micah is about to come into her life again, along with his search and rescue team, to help recover Lacey's kidnapped daughter and deliver the Ex-6 safely into patriotic hands. However, Micah has his own set of problems, including keeping the torch he's always carried for Lacey hidden ("she'd gotten under his skin. Like a virus. Or an old football injury"). Reflects Micah: "A smart man would expunge her the second she started tunneling through the soft tissue of his emotions." The idea of a search and rescue team is intriguing, but the novel's pacing is slowed by characters' repetitive self-reflection, theology discussions and flashbacks to high school life. And the rich, specific details of Warren's scenes come at the price of occasional overwriting. (Mar.)

Warren hooked me from the beginning and kept me speeding through the pages... Thrilling, suspenseful, romantic... all the way around a great story! I found the characters, both the main and secondary, to be so well written and real.

Truth, love, forgiveness, sacrifice and faith were intricately and artfully woven through out the book. Touching on themes of the prodigal, surrendering and stepping out in faith, free will & God's sovereignty, and on and on... Some really good stuff captured in a story that could be brought to the screen.

I breezed through this one in short time and I am eager to read more in the Team Hope series. I look forward to seeing the secondary characters' stories come to life!

    Again, a great read!

Great book! Loved the characters and the story line. I am very glad it is the first book in a series. I am reading the second book right now and it is just as good. Susan May Warren is a new Christian author for me. I have not read anything by her before. But from now on I will definitely be looking for her name when purchasing books. She has a great way of telling a suspenseful and romantic story and of weaving her Christian beliefs throughout in a way that would not be offensive to a non-believer (in my opinion), but rather with all parts in balance. A hard to put down story!

Flee the Night by Susan May Warren -- I liked this book and love this author. I have read other books by Susan May Warren that I have liked better but would buy this one again anyway. I guessed the identity of the "bad guy" almost immediately after his introduction in the book so the rest of the book was the journey for me, which I did like. What I love about all of Ms. Warren's books is the spiritual lessons that she demonstrates without preaching at the reader. There were several such in this book and therefore, I will read and re-read it again and again. As far as the plot goes, I did find it a little slow in some parts but there is definitely suspense in this book. I couldn't put the book down once we were taken to the caves. (Since I am somewhat claustrophobic, caves are very unsettling for me as was this section. However, others may not find it to be so.) Of course, the real story here is the wonderful love that the H/h had for each other and the obstacles which they had to deal with in their own lives to get to that forever love. I kept seeing God's love for mankind paralleled here. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. So glad I have found this author! If you are not a Christian, I believe you would still enjoy this story.

Loved this book. It was a joy being back with this author. She knows how to bring a lot of suspense and intrigue to her stories. Jim Micah and Lacey had a great past. But life's twist and turns changed things. Now with all of that aside Jim had to save Lacey the love of his life. But she tried to hinder him many times. But in the end it all work out how it should have before all the missteps that were taken. Jim had his family.

I don't even have the words to express how very much I enjoyed Flee the Night. Everything about this exciting story is excellent. It's the third of Ms. Warren's stories that I've read, and each one has seemed more entertaining than the last. I love the excitement and the romance of each story, but it's the inspirational aspect that refreshes and leaves me so satisfied that I've spent my time reading about how much God loves me.

This was a good book but it did have a somewhat predictable ending. I enjoyed the overall storyline and the theme of true forgiveness and mercy. I look forward to reading the next in the series to learn more about the Team Hope members and maybe have a deeper storyline.
