While I'm no military expert, the action seemed realistic and reminded me of the Bobby Lee Swagger stories. Everyone of the main and secondary characters were well developed and believable
Enjoy!
Even the families the soldiers have left behind are fleshed out, giving the reader an inside look at the sacrifices made not only by the military, but by their wives and extended family. Some touching moments involving that. The dialogue between the characters is witty and entertaining, but all of the American characters seem to have the same quick sense of humor, so aside from some other distinguishing characteristics, it was hard to keep track of who was cracking the latest joke.
My only other complaint is probably a matter of taste; I realize this is a military novel, and war is ugly and violent, but I could have done without the graphic descriptions of blood and brain matter splattering, an image that was revisited multiple times. There were several similar instances, like the description of how a head sounded when being crushed by a fire extinguisher, that sort of thing. The good thing, though, is that the characters don't enjoy maiming and killing; they do it only when absolutely necessary, so this is a violent book with a conscience. If an honest presentation of killing and hand-to-hand combat doesn't bother you, this story is worth reading.
Great portrayal of some of the difficult tasks our miltary and special ops face each day...and many that may never be known to the public.
