PreS-Gr 1—Cute cartoon Bunny is ready to hit the bunny slopes. Skis on and red scarf knotted, Bunny needs help from his readers to complete his adventure. Large, conversational text greets readers and asks them to join in the fun. First, they are asked to "shake" the book to produce snow and then "tap tap tap" the book to pack it down, followed by "tilt," "turn," "jump," and so forth. The action words are in red, matching Bunny's jaunty red scarf on the opposite pages. Eventually, Bunny skis into a hole (an actual die-cut hole through three pages of the book) and falls. His mom then greets Bunny with a warm bowl of food and takes him to their den to rest. Only two colors, light blue and bright red, are used, with charcoal lines against a white backdrop. The premise is simple, skiing down a slope, but it is the interaction between the book and readers that makes for a special experience. If the title is read with a small audience, each action could be played out for interactive fun. In Bunny Slopes, a cute little bunny has a big problem (and then smaller ones to follow), when he initially can’t find any snow to go ski on. The only way he can solve this dilemma, is if he gets hands-on help from the readers.Once he gets his snow (by having the readers shake the book), he also needs them to tilt, tap or turn it so that he can ski down the bunny slopes.This interactive picture book is perfect! The illustrations are beautifully simple and clear, and the story is cute, fuzzy and creative. It’s become a big favorite or ours during snowy days.

When reading to your child YOU should be interacting not expecting a book to be a video game with lights and whistles. This book allows for so much interaction, conversation and imagination. But the bunny needs more snow to be able to ski. So you tap some more. Oops, the bunny is covered with snow. And on the story goes, with you doing things like tilting the book to make a hill to ski down. It's a fun book, with a very nice bunny. Everyone will love it.

When I was young, decades ago, we had some books that had pages with an insert mounted on a central attachment that could be moved around like a wheel and show different things. I naively expected that when they said the hill's slope would tilt that it was something like this- the parent could turn the wheel showing the line of the hill and it would become steeper. Nope. You just turn to the next page.
However for a 2-yr old Canadian child who should have a book on skiing, it's OK. Just understand there is nothing especially "interactive" compared to any other book. Otherwise cute art.
