About the authors
Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, I've always loved to read. When I decided at age 12 that I wanted to be a writer, my first stories reflected my interest in science fiction (though somehow they always managed a romance as well). I devoured all of Robert Heinlein's books for teens and lived for Star Trek, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, and the Invaders.
As I went through school, I contributed to a creative writing booklet in junior high school and worked on the newspaper staff in high school, acting as editor during my senior year. Following graduation from Parkside High School in 1974, I attended the local junior college in pursuit of a journalism degree.
However, before I completed my degree, I fell in love and married. My husband, John Fox, joined the Air Force soon after we married and we spent the next twenty years living in various places around the U.S. and in Europe, such as Tacoma, WA; Charleston, SC; Mons, Belgium; Colorado Springs, CO and Biloxi, MS. During that time, we had three children--two boys and girl, who are now grown and have provided me with three wonderful grandchildren.
During these years I discovered romance, which replaced SF as my favorite reading material. I loved to read how these amazing take-charge women survived their adventures and earned the love of the one man perfectly suited for them. My stories reflected this new interest, though I never lost my appreciation for the world of science fiction.
When futuristic romances arrived on the market, it was the best of both worlds. There I found the adventure of visiting new worlds and cultures while still sharing in the emotional journey made by the hero and heroine. I was hooked. I continued writing as we moved from place to place, though the pace slowed as I raised my three children and managed to pick up five cats.
It wasn't until I reached Colorado Springs and learned about a local Romance Writers of America chapter that I went from writing for fun to writing as a career. I joined the chapter and learned the business. I became part of a critique group, the Wyrd Sisters, and grew as a writer. After five years, four completed books, and a move to Biloxi, I finally sold my first book to Leisure Love Spell.
My first book, Sword of MacLeod, made the Ingram's Bestseller List as did my second book, Somewhere My Love. In fact, I was thrilled when I learned that Somewhere My Love was a RITA finalist in 1998 for Best Paranormal. This book was also a finalist in Affaire de Coeur's Reader Awards, The Award of Excellence from Colorado Romance Writers, and FF&P's PRISM Award. After losing my editor, I had a brief dry spell until I sold a book of my heart--a contemporary fantasy entitled Prince of Charming --to Berkley/Jove. Since then, I sold three more contemporary fantasies to Berkley/Jove and wrote two books in series done with some of my Wyrd Sisters. My second contemporary fantasy, Buttercup Baby, was a 2002 winner of the Booksellers' Best Award.
I'm currently a member of Pikes Peak Writers and Novelist Inc. and I work on the annual Pikes Peak Writers Conference and Novelist Inc conference..
Now that my husband has retired from the Air Force, we're making our home in the Rocky Mountains outside Colorado Springs, CO. Now retired from my job at The MITRE Corporation as a Technical Support Specialist, I spend my time at home writing, surrounded by deer, turkeys and the occasional bear,
I love writing books with that little twist from the ordinary. I hope you enjoy reading them as well. You can visit my website at http://karenafox.com or email me at karen@karenafox.com.
An early reader, Laura exhausted the children's section of her local library by age ten. At that point, she switched to adult mysteries and science fiction and never looked back. Trained as an engineer, she continued to write "for fun" until one day, she decided to write "for real."
She has now published fifteen full-length novels under four names, thirteen short stories/novellas, and an authorized companion book about Nora Roberts. Having traveled across the US as a military spouse, Laura now resides (permanently) in Colorado with her husband and dogs. To learn more, visit her at http://suspense.net
Jodi Dawson (aka Jodi Anderson) began her writing career as a young, sassy girl, penning plays to be performed by she and her four siblings. In a garage. For their 'held hostage' audience of mother and father. Years later, Jodi reclaimed her passion for the written word and dove in head first with her first love...romance.
After receiving an education degree in Alaska, Jodi promptly put that piece of parchment away and followed her soul into writing romance novels. Settled now after living in ten states and South Korea, Jodi enjoys teaching, writing and spending time with family and friends.
Jodi presents a variety of workshops for writers and uses any opportunity to gain control of a microphone in front of a captive audience when acting as emcee at various events.
Hi, I'm Parker Blue, writing urban fantasy as well as paranormal romance. I live in Colorado Springs with my rescue dog, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the snarky telepathic hellhound in Sapphires & Souls. I hate writing bios so that's all you're gonna get. Okay, okay. Instead of more boring bio stuff, how about some of my likes and dislikes?
Stuff I love, in no particular order:
- The color red--a bright, orange-red just makes me happy.
- Shiny things. I must have been a magpie in a previous life.
- Making shiny things. Love to bead!
- Dogs--they love you unconditionally and are great at stress relief.
- Numbers. So sue me--I love math. It always makes sense.
- Chocolate. Come on, that's a no-brainer.
- The mountains of Colorado. Their awe-tastic beauty is good for the soul.
- Diet Coke and Zero Sugar A&W Root Beer. What can I say? I'm addicted.
- Reading. Escaping into a cool new world someone created out of their imagination? It doesn't get much better than that.
- Oh, yeah. And writing. Making up my own world out of random bits of my twisted psyche is the best!
Things I'm not so crazy about, besides the obvious things everyone hates (war, pestilence, famine, you know the drill):
- Blogs that dis other people. What's up with that?
- Going to the dentist. Need I say more?
- Politics. Big yawn.
- Television shows that ask people do stupid things for money then make fun of them.
- Seafood. Ick. Just...ick.
- Writing bios. Enough already!
My newest project is a spin-off from the Demon Underground series, starring Ivy Weiss, the stone whisperer:
The Stone Whisperer Chronicles: Sapphires & Souls
The Demon Underground Series, in order:
Book 1, Bite Me
Book 2, Try Me
Book 3, Fang Me
Book 4, Make Me
Book 5, Dare Me
Book 6, Catch Me
There is also a short story, Forget You, that occurs five years before the beginning of the series.
Paranormal Romance:
"Wolf Rising" Novella in the Magick Rising anthology

- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2013What an interesting collection and turn on legends. This is a well-written and creative twist on urban legends. Each story stars a different cast, but has a central theme of Magick Rising throughout. I love Parker Blue's Demon Underground series, and I've read Karen Fox's Prince of Charming way back when, and RITA winner Evelyn Vaughn's books as well, but many of these were new authors for me. P.J. Bishop writes an astounding short story that had me on the edge of my seat Jodi Anderson's tragic protagonist reliving past era after era, and Laura Hayden's solid mystery. I loved escaping into this book. Each story was memorable and unique
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2014Several stories lumped together by accomplished authors. A different take on paranormal romance. Well rounded characters, interesting plot, some left you wanting more, but is typical of novellas.
I would definitely recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2013I thoroughly enjoyed this anthology. Every contribution is worth reading and fits the theme. My favorite, by far, was "Magick Justice" by P.J. Bishop. Miko is a heroine worth investing your interest in, and worthy of the larger-than-life Hadrian--and vice-versa. The entire collection is worth your time. Don't miss this!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2013Every sort of magick collides in these six paranormal tales of magick and romance. Although they are filled with good ideas the majority of them fall flat. This book is filled with slow paced anthologies that rely on urban fantasy cliches and paranormal romance tropes.
Magic Justice: This is the typical girl finds out about the Supernatural, finds out that she has powers, and falls madly in love with the hero after a few days. Miko is brave, kind, and smart. Hadrian is the typical brooding, hunky, hero. Aside from the heroine being Asian there is nothing different about this story.
Spirits Rising: An interesting twist on a historical event. The love story between Penny and Richard was a bit forced, but I liked the villain Manon and Penny's Scooby gang. I wish we'd been able to see more of them.
Blood Rising: The story started out interesting, a regular woman who lost her sister becomes a vampire slayer. I also liked the idea of living vampires verses dead ones. But the story quickly descended into cliche's of an eternal love developed over the course of a day.
A Shift in Magick: A fun twist on the classic noir story. A woman goes to a private detective for help with her wayward husband, which leads to more intrigue and danger than she could have ever imagined. The twist it that this investigator is a shape shifter, a man who can appear to be any other man he chooses. I also liked that the story wasn't about to people falling in crazy love, instead it was about building a relationship. Which makes way more sense since she just got out of a bad marriage and they have only known each other for a few days.
Destiny Rising: Erik and Victor sharing a body made for a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde kind of thing. Celeste wasn't really an endearing character and I overall didn't really care what happened to any of the people in the story.
Wolf Rising: A cute twist on the werewolf legend. While there is no action we do see two people fighting to survive since they are both ill with debilitating diseases. The love story was also more believable because of their illnesses. Sure they only knew each other for a few weeks, but when your time is limited picking up the pace on your love life is not a bad idea.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2013This book has stories that will appeal to whatever genre you enjoy reading. Demons, shifters, vampires, ghosts and wolves. Each story is intriguing, entertaining and overall enjoyable. Treat yourself to some fun fall reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2013I really enjoyed this anthology! It introduced me to some authors I hadn't read before as well as those I always enjoy. Each story offered something different and I found them very enjoyable!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2013I was expecting more from Parker Blue due to the fact I love the Fang series. The others I have never read before but stories were good.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2013Oh my! I thoroughly enjoyed each and every story! I hope these fine authors see fit to write more of these stories! I will be first in line to read them.
