Review
A book full of quick, easy to read, encouraging stories that will help put you in the Christmas spirit. Each author brings a story that will capture you from the first page to the last.
I love these collections because they are not meant to be in depth or full of thought provoking content. They are meant to bring warmth, hope, love and faith by way of short stories. Yes, they can be very predictable at times but that is part of the charm of each collection.
(Jenilee Goodwin Reviews by Jenilee 2013-09-05)
A Pioneer Christmas is a beautiful collection of historical Christmas stories. I loved them all but Buckskin Bride by Vickie McDonough was my favorite of the nine. Most of these authors are new to me and will be looking for more full length stories by them in the future. I recommend this book to get you into the holiday spirit. (Amy Campbell GoodReads 2013-11-12)
This collection brought me the scent of Christmas cooking and the tingle of snow. There's excitement, occasional violence and good fellowship. A PIONEER CHRISTMAS COLLECTION is writing of impressive quality by seven female authors and any reader would be glad to find this under the Christmas tree. (Pat Richardson Fresh Fiction 2013-11-27)
This collection was a nice harkening back to days past and shows the reader that, despite the difficulties faced, these pioneers still made Christmas a priority. We could perhaps learn a thing or two from them.
(Sally McCombs Proverbial Reads 2013-12-12)
Overall a terrific collection of wonderful stories. I enjoyed every single one. A terrific Christmas gift for you or a friend :) (Faith Oygard NetGalley 2013-12-17)
You will not be able to finish this book without seeing that God is our ultimate shelter and love. He sent or provided each of the characters just what was needed when they needed provision and help. Each novella has a satisfying ending but I wished the stories would keep going. I wanted to know more about the characters’ lives because I was so drawn into their situations. To me that is the sign of a well written story which is why I recommend this as a great Christmas read to fans of Inspirational Romance and Historical Fiction. (Tammy Cook The Christian Manifesto 2013-12-11)
Book Description
Penned by an exclusive selection of today’s Christian fiction authors—including Lauraine Snelling, Kathleen Fuller, and Vickie McDonough—this collection of nine romances will become an instant treasure. True pioneer spirit radiates at Christmastime despite the primitive lodgings the settlers must endure.

About the Author
MARGARET BROWNLEY Thrills, mystery, suspense, romance: Margaret penned it all. Nothing wrong with this--except Margaret happened to be writing for the church newsletter at the time. After making the church picnic read like a Grisham novel, her former pastor took her aside and said, "Maybe God's calling you to write fiction."
So that's what Margaret did. She's now a New York Times bestselling author and a Romance Writers of America RITA finalist with more than 25 novels to her credit. Her first non-fiction book "Grieving God's Way: the Lasting Path to Hope and Healing" has won much critical acclaim. She is currently working on the third book in her "Brides of Last Chance Ranch series." Not bad for someone who flunked 8th grade English. Just don't ask her to diagram a sentence. Shannon McNear is a Midwestern farm girl transplanted to Charleston, South Carolina, and loves losing herself in local history. She's currently a homeschooling mother, military wife, and a member of ACFW and RWA. When not sewing, researching, or leaking story from her fingertips, she finds joy in worship, women's ministry, and encouraging whoever God brings across her path.Marcia Gruver rides shotgun across the United States, trusty sidekick to her husband, Lee. His job in the Mineral Exploration business takes these two outlaws across the Texas Plains and deep into the remaining states. Their many road trips are excellent fodder for the fertile imagination of this author, providing fascinating settings as well as quirky characters for her stories. So watch out if these hombres cross your path...you might wind up a character in one of her novels.

Best-selling author Marcia Gruver’s southern-comfortable roots lend touches of humor and threads of faith to her writing. When she’s not pounding a keyboard, you’ll find her clutching a game system controller, riding shotgun on Texas Hill Country treks, or sipping mugs of hot tea on the front porch. Lifelong Texans, Marcia and her husband Lee have five children, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren—so far!
Best-selling author of Amish fiction. Also a wife, mother, crafter, coffee addict, football fan, and chocolate aficionado.
Cynthia Hickey has been making up stories since she was a child. How fortunate that she finally found an outlet for her, uh, fictional tellings.

She is a graduate of Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, with degrees in both English and Psychology. Currently Anna is earning her MFA in Writing from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Additionally, Anna is a high school English teacher and a mother of three girls. In between grading research papers, meeting grad school deadlines, and potty training her children, she travels as often as she can. She hosts a blog, The Silent Isle, at www.annaurquhart.com; and, while her passion for writing is broad, her first literary love is historical fiction.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2016These stories were well written and inspiring. The use of Scripture and prayer were realistic and encouraging as it demonstrated how each individual was encouraged and sustained through God's Word. Because of the character's relationship with God, including the plan of salvation was natural and essential to the text. This book would be a good gift for anyone. The stories are entertaining, inspiring, encouraging of faith in any circumstance, and perhaps beneficial to leading someone to a saving faith in God.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2013Great light Christmas Reads. Each Story is reflective of times past, when times were harder and so
were people. They made due with very little and yet they seemed to enjoy and appreciate life more
than perhaps we do today. I know I would have never made it being a Pioneer Woman and so I am
quite content with the Era I was born in...but I think those men and women had true grit and determination
to make it in in a rough and untamed world.
I liked this book enough to purchase it as a Christmas Gift for my Mother also...but it is one of those
less complicated story lines...but just a really good sit by the fire on a cold night and curl up and
enjoy Stories of past times and earthier people.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2013Even though this book is a paperback, it is designed to look like an old fashioned book with uneven pages, fonts, and paper color. All the stories are good, clean reads. My personal favorites were Defending Truth and A Silent Night, but all the novellas will appeal to the Christian romance readers on your gift lists.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2015wonderful collection of Christmas stories during the pioneer era. These stories written by 9 talented writers explore adventures that depict adversity, courage, faith, lots and lots of snow, and romance. What more could you ask for? It was very easy to become emotionally involved with the characters in each story. I would cry, pray for their success and be overjoyed when Christmas came and everyone was happy (including me). I am sure that these stories will become a favorite of mine during each Christmas season

- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2013I really had a relaxing time reading this collection! I have read stories by some of the authors before; some others were my first read of their work. Each did a great job! I would recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2014The characters were likeable. The stories were interesting. If historical accuracy isn't something that will bother you (for example - picking up a not yet invented toothbrush at a stop off a defunct pony express route in 1862), then you will be okay with this book. It seems the publisher was playing to the Christmas market and requested stories that happened at Christmas. Otherwise, no one would have had a single woman searching the Nebraska prairies in a covered wagon in December by herself and not freezing to death. Or a husband and father leaving for supplies in the bitter cold Dakota territory in December with a wife in the last month of a pregnancy. I would like to think real pioneers planned better than that.

I loved this book. Each story held a different view and each one pulled you in as if you were there watching through a window of the characters lives. I love to read before I go to sleep and this was the perfect book for that as it was a relaxing read.
