Editorial Reviews
Review
--Nell K. Duke, professor of literacy, language, and culture, University of Michigan
"Picture books are one of my favorite things to share with children. But more than just a good picture books, I always want to share one that has a story that will resonate with the child. Allyson Apsey has created a sweet story about three princes and the lessons they learn about kindness, gratitude, and pride--lessons that are so important for every child to hear."--Todd Nesloney, award-winning educator and bestselling author
"Allyson's words weave a story of compassion, kindness and share ways in which we can build a little empathy into each of our days. The Princes of Serendip is a must read for all learners and ages."--Jessica Cabeen, National Distinguished Principal, author of Hacking Early Learning and coauthor of Balance Like a Pirate
"As a parent and educator, I love how Allyson encapsulates three beautiful important messages into one book. I was drawn into the story as I read how each prince shared their real-world experiences of life in someone else's shoes and reflected on their experience with family. The Princes of Serendip provides us true examples of warmth, empathy, kindness, and ways in which we can be proud of who we are and what we do. And my daughters love this book! They loved how the princes learned kindness, love, and gratitude. My oldest daughter said, 'The story made me feel great because the princes were working hard to help people in need. I love how they saw the beauty in others.'" --Karen Festa, wife, mom, and passionate educator

About the author

Allyson Apsey has been an educator for more than twenty-four years; a school leader for nineteen of those years. She is passionate about having a serendipity mindset, looking for the beautiful lessons that every experience holds. She tries to be transparent, vulnerable and supportive, and she doesn't ask questions unless she wants the answers.
Despite the fact that she never wanted to set foot in a school again after high school graduation, there is nowhere else she'd rather spend her days than in schools and classrooms. She enjoys nothing more than helping educators be the very best they can be. Recognizing the significant impact trauma has had on many of our students, staff and families, Allyson became a Certified Trauma Practitioner in Education. The supports that students affected by trauma need are beneficial to all students because they are grounded in a foundational core of strong, positive relationships based on trust.
Allyson is the author of a blog called Serendipity in Education (allysonapsey.com) has written six books, including the best-selling Leading the Whole Teacher. Her most recent book, Lead with Collaboration, was co-written with her good friend Jessica Gomez. Additionally, she wrote a middle grades chapter book called The Serendipity Journal, a picture book called The Princes of Serendip, and two professional learning books for educators called The Path to Serendipity and Through the Lens of Serendipity. She loves speaking to passionate groups as they work to embrace and share their strengths for the benefit of themselves and everyone around them.
She is married to Jim, that man she met at the Orbit Room dance club all those years ago, and she has two amazing sons with him, Laine and Tyson.
She is blessed. Contact her at allysonapsey@gmail.com

A story filled with three of the values I try to teach each day in my classroom. ‘The Princes of Serendip’ show that life’s lessons teach us the most important connections we need to make! It is a must read and a book children of all ages will enjoy. While in my Kindergarten classroom, kindness counts, we are prideful of our work and do all things with gratitude. Allyson’s story compliments those lessons and lends itself to wonderful discussions! I cannot wait to share this with my own students this week! They have been waiting for its arrival!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2018The second I received my book I read the story and fell in love with the message shared by Allyson Apsey. I immediately reread it, then called my daughters (ages 9 and 5) into the room so I could read it to them. They loved it and thought the pictures were beautiful, too. The values of kindness, gratitude, and pride are so important and Allyson's book encourages these conversations to happen in an authentic manner. I highly encourage purchasing this book for your children, grandchildren, teachers, school librarian, etc. It has the feel of a fairy tale with the lessons of a fable. This is good stuff.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2018This is nicely done adaptation to an traditional Persian fairytale. The three princes have become accustomed to such a life of luxury that they have lost sight of more meaningful values. They decide to go out into the village, each taking a different route. During their journeys, the princes learn valuable lessons which make an an impression-changing them for the benefit of their kingdom. Great lessons & discussions for my 3rd grade students. They really enjoyed this story.
