"No one can write a book quite like Samantha James."
-- Catherine Anderson

About the Author

It was Samantha James's love of reading as a child that steered her toward a writing career. Among her favorites in those days were the Trixie Belden and Cherry Ames series of books. She still loves a blend of mystery and romance, and, of course, a happily-ever-after ending. The award-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of many romances and one novella, her books have ranged from medieval to Regency.

A Perfect Bride is a wonderful love story of two people from different worlds finding love together. This is a well written story with well drawn characters. I love how Ms. James took the time to flesh out each character that by the end of the book we feel that we know each of them intimately. I thoroughly enjoyed the conflict in this book and is looking forward to reading Justin’s story. Wonderful!

Now the story reveals and at last Devon found her birth and a grandmother. The only complaint is Devon herself she is obstinate always insulting the man who saves her life and adore her. I love this story! It has all the intrigue, romance and the strong characters that I love to explore. I believe that the happy and tidy ending is essential to a good romance, and James does not disappoint.

I read this book many years ago and decided to reread the stories of the St.Johns, I enjoyed this book it is a twist on my fair lady and you can see some of the plot twist coming from a mile away but it is still fun to read. The plot is pretty much on point with what you read in the back blurb man finds ragged injured women takes her home and turns her into a lady falls in love. While it was a good read there were some points that make you wonder if they were added just for filler, the tension of the younger/older brother relationship, also I could not for the life me understand how the duchess would have just shown up out of no place no the doorstep this part was too much for me to buy into into. I like that the female lead found her voice, however, I could not also buy into the not reading part it does not fit in with her relationship with her mother and at the time she would have been learning to read she would not have had this aversion she would have been too young, so this was a point that was useless in the book and only made the female lead look immature and petty.

The villain is as always in these books one that is not really in the story much there are passing references because we need to be reminded that there is a danger to the couple but overall outside a few pages is non-existent. The supporting characters well there were not many mostly the younger brother and the before mentioned duchess. The relationship with the brothers was a little much of the carefree but emotional damaged brother who resents his stern older brother who protects him its over done honestly. I liked the younger brother who has his own story but I thought the interaction of the brothers in some places was a bit over done in tension and resentment. Outside of the few negatives it is an engaging story and one I glad I read again I try to only do 4 or more stars on books that I really feel are what I wanted them to be and this was it was a nice twist on an old story that made me want to reread the remaining story's in the series.

A rags to riches story, very entertaining.

This book is such a hidden gem.

It made me a very very happy girl. I loved everything about it!! Devon St. Clair is a bastard daughter who grew up with her mother in St. Giles. Despite this, she promised that she would never "steal, beg or whore" and she's managed to survive with her innocence intact. One night she is attacked by two ruffians and she stabs one of them to get away and he stabs her back. She's left bleeding in the street and thinks she will die...

...until Sebastian Sterling, Marquess of Thurston comes along. His sense of honor can't leave her bleeding to death in the streets so he whisks her off to his townhouse where he lives with his brother Justin. They think she is a thief when they find her clutching her mother's necklace and when Devon wakes up sparks fly!

This book was the most delightful books I've read in quite a while. It was funny and sweet and it was a Pygmalion story as good as they get. Both Devon and Sebastian was truly lovable and following their building romance was a pleasure. And the HEA - let's just say that it was as sweet as cotton candy. How can I have missed Samantha Jones? *Scurries off to check the rest of her books*

I loved this book - it was so well-done in making you believe that you were right there sharing in their discovery and blossoming love story. It grabs at your heart at the difficulties that these 2 lovers had to go thru because of the difference in their class. Also loved Justin's character

I enjoyed this book mainly because of the characters and the humour in it.
The two disapointments was the predictablity, and the fact that something major happens and it felt like it was swept under the carpet.

That said I will be looking forward to reading some of her other work, particularly the other two to this series.
