4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 172 ratings

A healer finds a cure for her unrequited love in this unforgettable medieval romance from the New York Times–bestselling author of Once a Knight.

She cannot risk ruin . . .

Once the Duchess of Cleere, Lady Edlyn is now a widow. After suffering a humiliating scandal, she is forced to take refuge in an abbey, where she uses her skills as an herbalist to heal injured soldiers. When she’s asked to tend to the wounds of a knight who’s in hiding, she’s shocked to discover he is none other than Hugh de Florisoun—the man she has desired for years. Yet she knows surrendering to the temptation he presents could be her ultimate downfall.

For a night of passion . . .

Renowned for his prowess on the battlefield, Lord Hugh de Florisoun never imagined the day would come that he’d see the beautiful, refined Lady Edlyn working as a common peasant—and in a nunnery, no less. His yearning for her burns as strongly as ever. But Edlyn scorns all his advances. Somehow Hugh must find a way to unlock her heart—before secrets from both of their pasts jeopardize any chance for a future together.

From the Publisher

His Power Matched her Pride

Fallen from grace and sheltered in a convent, Lady Edlyn is a skilled herbalist forced to secretly tend the wounds of Hugh de Florisoun. A knight renowned for his prowess on the battlefield and in the bedchamber, Hugh is a man who is no stranger to Edlyn's heart.

Using the healing magic of herbs and the power of remembered love, Edlyn saves the warrior life. Now Hugh claims this brazen beauty for his own. But Edlyn, cynical in the ways of men, denies him--even as her flesh burns with unaccustomed fire. Passion becomes their battleground with no mercy given...in a bold age when danger and desire go hand in hand.

This is one of 4 books that I have read, cover to cover, since it was published. I have had to replace the paperback 2 times because they have fallen apart. I bought the digital copy so I can always have a copy. But the editing from paper to digital did not carry over. There are many mistakes that are not in the paper back version.

A Knight to Remember is a story of two world weary souls thrown together when Hugh is mortally wounded in battle and brought by his squire to be tended by the herbalist in a nearby Abbey. Edwin uses all her wiles to nurse him back from the edge of death, and then he tricks her into marriage. It's the story of a hard-headed man who loves his wife enough to learn some diplomacy from her and a woman who has seen too much death, come to grips with the reality of being married to a man sworn to fight for his king. Very realistic. Very memorable.

This book is great reading. This is the following to Once a Knight. There are two characters in Once a Knight that make up this book.

I loved both books but can be read as stand alones. The love story between the characters is what is important, don't get bogged down in other matters, like she is not likeable or she is refusing to love him because of what he is. She does realize she has to let him be who he will always be.

Great book. Highly recommend reading both.

I love this book, and read it years ago when it was shiny and new. I've reread it so many times, that I wore my paperback copy to shreds. I figured I'd better add it to my digital library while I had the chance. Sure wish Dodd would go back to writing historicals.

It is okay, if you like all the newer books from this author and other authors like Karen Robards and Jayne ann Krentz this isn't one of those. It is very much a traditional romance. Okay story, okay characters. If you like the more traditional romance stories from the 80's than this is the book for you.

Not my favorite of her books and I'm not sure why it doesn't ring as well with me as some others. I like the ending far better than the beginning perhaps because of how the relationship changes towards the end. There's enough action to keep you interested throughout however and I still enjoy it as a re-read.

'A Knight to Remember' was a fast-paced, entertaining read with just the right amount of romance. As always, Christina Dodd doesn't disappoint. I've always enjoyed her historical romances and intend to read many more. If you love stubborn knights, headstrong heroines and lots of action, then this is just the book for you.

I really liked this story about the twice widowed Edlyn and her childhood crush Hugh. At death's door Hugh is treated by Edlyn who is homeless after marriage to an executed traitor. Edlyn revives her crush on Hugh, but in secret as her marriage has taught her to be wary.

There was rich emotional depth in this book while being a good fun read. Hugh is a mans' man who believes that war is the answer to all problems and women just need to be well controlled. He is supported in his views by a surly and entertaining male entourage. Edlyn has had enough of war and has learned to survive through smart negotiation. She struggles for Hugh's respect. He just wants her to adore him. I liked the fact that this book was funny yet conveyed human truths in a non-preachy way. Highly recommended.
