She's No Princess (Guilty Series Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 233 ratings

A diplomat is tasked with finding a husband for the king’s illegitimate daughter in this Regency romance by a New York Times–bestselling author.

The illegitimate daughter of a prince and a notorious courtesan, Lucia has been confined to schools and convents for most of her life. But that hasn’t stopped her from causing one scandal after another. Exasperated, her royal father decides that his exquisite hellion of a daughter must be married immediately. And Sir Ian Moore, Britain’s most proper diplomat, is the perfect man to choose her a groom.

Diplomacy, not matchmaker, is Ian’s forte, but he vows to get Lucia married off as soon as possible so that he may return to his real duties. Yet, despite an abundance of very eager, worthwhile candidates, none is a match for Lucia’s spirit and fire. And the more time Ian spends with the infuriating beauty, the more reluctant he is to marry her off. Could it be that he has already found Lucia the perfect husband...and it is Ian himself?

The illegitimate scandalous daughter of a prince and a courtesan named Lucia goes to England and is practically forced to find a husband in just six weeks. Sir Ian is the ambassador brokering the deal. Lucia is determined to soften Ian to let her fall in love with the man she would marry. What happens when she falls for him instead.

I absolutely love this book. Lucia is a delight and refreshingly frank about wanting to find love. Ian is controlled because he is afraid of the strength of his emotions. They are definitely opposite attracts situation. I recommend this book.

I don't always love Laura Guhrke's books because I like to read to escape reality and sometimes they have a bit of harsh reality that offends my romantic sensabilities. But this one I truly enoyed. The heroine is headstrong and opinionated beauty who is the illigitimate daughter of a Prince, who is determined to marry her off before she ruins the union already planned between his legitimate daughter and an Englishman. When Lucia runs away to England to live with her mom, her father recruits an English diplomat to pick a man for Lucia. The trouble is Lucia doesn't want the eligible British nobility, she wants the handsome and manipulative diplomat, who is entirely unsuitable for the illigitimate daugter of a prince. How far will Lucia go to get her way? Read the book to find out.

I've said before that I love novels with strong female leads, and this novel is a perfect example of that. It's a keeper in my library.

Lucia, the illegitimate daughter of an Italian prince, thrives on astonishing and irritating her father. The last straw is when she sneaks out of her father's palace with her legitimate younger sister for a secret night at a carnival. Guards from the palace find them and Lucia is banished from the palace to live with obscure cousins. Not liking that, she escapes and goes to London to live with her courtesan mother. Lucia's father hears of this and in order to keep his younger daughter's engagement to an upstanding family intact, Lucia must be married off and quickly without scandal. Trusting very few, the prince calls on the one man that he trusts in England to help him arrange a not so royal wedding, Sir Ian Moore.

Ian Moore can't believe his ears. What is the prince of Bolgheri thinking? He is a diplomat, not a matchmaker! He has negotiated treaties and ended skirmishes with his diplomacy and now he is being reduced to babysitter. Ian reluctantly agrees to the assignment with the hope that he can see Lucia married in six weeks. The plan is noble, until he meets her. Instantly upon making her acquaintance, Ian fights his attraction because he knows that it is not proper. Now he just has to tell his heart.

Lucia fights the man that her father has chosen to find her a groom. She gives nothing and makes life difficult at best. That is, until she gets to know him and then she finds him honorable, attractive, and things get complicated. Lucia has six weeks. Six weeks to make him love her because if he doesn't, then she will have to marry someone else.

She's No Princess by Laura Lee Guhrke is a remarkable read. I laughed, cried, and became heartsick at the emotions it invoked. While Ian's intentions were honorable, I could sense his pain and in turn, She's No Princess became difficult to read. Not because the story wasn't well written, it was. I was amazed at the emotions it dragged out of me while reading it. I thought it a most wonderful story and would recommend this book to anyone!

I read this book several months after "His Every Kiss", a novel I was disappointed in. However I was immediately intrigued when I recognized several outlying characters-really enjoyed the Duke of Tremore and his story. I enjoyed this book, because it did have a different take than most. I liked stuffy Ian, loved to read of him loosing control. Lucia was interesting, and albeit gorgeous, had flaws. Please don't give me a perfect character such as Grace from "Kiss" and expect me to care what happens to her. This book was a keeper for me.

Laura Lee Gurkhe's writing is erratic, and this is an example of a middling effort by an author who can scale the romantic heights, as with  And Then He Kissed Her , or fall to smarmy depths, as with the "blackmail as romantic gesture" novel,  The Marriage Bed (Avon Romantic Treasure) . This novel falls somewhere in between her best and worst.

The plot is promising -- the headstrong, love-starved illegitimate child of a king is being forced to marry by her father. His majesty chooses a diplomatic aide to screen potential husbands and get the annoying kid off of daddy's hands. Of course, the staid diplomat is just what the spoiled quasi-royal brat needs.

This could have been a exciting Taming of the Shrew-type romance. When the heroine started out so whiny and annoying, and the hero was so calm and controlling, I was hopeful. But no fireworks or sexual heat ever entered the plot.

Unfortunately, the heroine never became likable, she just stayed bad-tempered. There was no taming, and the eventual "love match" was unbelievable, because neither character ever developed interesting personality traits -- both were underwritten and two-dimensional.

Buy this used, or borrow it from a friend. It's not horrible, but it's just okay. Definitely not a keeper.

I read this book in one sitting. The coupling of the stuffy, straight laced Ian and the fiery, passionate Lucia was brilliant. I loved how Lucia flirted with him to crack his perfect exterior and his inner turmoil to remain immune to her charms.

"She's No Princess" is packed with hot tension, hero jealousy, strong emotions, and hilarious banter.

This one is a definite keeper. I loved it.

This was ok, not much to say really, felt slightly bored and skipped pages. Did not like the characters enough to care about their involvement.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather too much seething and narrowing of eyes - gets quite annoying
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 30, 2014
The heroine is Italian and seeths a lot, lifts chin, narrows eyes, etc etc. Gets annoying and rather boring. The hero is OK but his turn from believable character to losing all reasoning and control is particularly unbelievable. Quite glad to finish it in the end. Sorry.
