Amazon.com Review

Fifteen-year-old Bobby Pendragon has visited the alternate dimension of Denduron (The Merchant of Death), explored the endangered underworld territory of Cloral (The Lost City of Faar), and traveled back in time on his own planet Earth to uncover the evil plot of the fiendish Saint Dane--the evil force behind all these interworld exploits (The Never War). Now he "flumes" (a kind of time/space travel) into the territory of Veelox expecting to wage another battle against evil... only to find all is peaceful. He quickly discovers the peace is due to the fact that most of the citizens of Veelox have become addicted to Lifelight, a virtual reality lifestyle. Unfortunately, what once seemed so safe and enjoyable has taken a frightening twist, and Bobby must rely on a Veelox Traveler named Aja to help him find a solution--and save the territory. His antagonistic relationship with the brilliant Aja grates on his nerves as she spits out cryptic words of wisdom: "Salvation here can be found in only one place: the imagination. If you can't understand that, you might as well flume out right now."

Fans of D.J. MacHale's Pendragon series will enjoy this latest entry, and look forward to the forthcoming fifth title. The attraction of the series is not so much great writing or character development as fast-paced action and edge-of-seat danger. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

The Pendragon series is about a 15 year old boy who travels to different worlds that are called territories. In the series, Bobby Pendragon discovers that he is a traveler and, in each of the books, travels to different territories in the Universe. He writes journals and sends them back to his friends. Most of the books are his journal. In this book, The Reality Bug, Earth is called Second Earth, and Bobby goes to the territory called Veelox.
When Bobby leaves Second Earth and goes to Veelox, he meets a girl named Aja Killian, who shows him what is happening on Veelox. There is a computer program called Lifelight. An evil man named Saint Dane is using Lifelight to take control of everyone on Veelox. Lifelight will take you into your fantasy. You can choose anything you want, and it will happen. The only problem is that since people love to live their fantasy, they don't want to live in reality. So all the people stay indoors all the time in the computer program, and their world starts to crumble. There is no one to work, or clean, or sell, or buy, and their world begins to fall apart. This is exactly what Saint Dane wants. He goes from territory to territory and tries to destroy each one. His final goal is to take over all of Halla, which is everything and every time that ever existed. So far Saint Dane has not been able to destroy any territories because Bobby travels to wherever Saint Dane goes and tries to protect the territory. This is a great books full of action and suspense. I could not put it down and read it in several days. There are a lot of cool girl characters in the series too. You should start with the first in the series though.

I started reading this series as a teenager and never made it past book 3. Thrilling read!

Reading this at a tender young age, it definitely resonated with me on a new level, having been an avid gamer on new systems coming out every year. I could only dream of a reality including such technology as described in this book. Fascinating read, and continuation of this epic fantasy/sci-fi created by D.J. MacHale

I'm reading this series because my son read them and enjoyed them so much, and wanted to be able to talk about it with someone. Though this series is written for young teens, anyone who enjoys a good adventure will appreciate it. Cynical adults like myself will often see where the next turn might lead, but that doesn't take away from the truly amazing adventure at hand. MacHale has created a world (or worlds, or Halla, or territory, or...) that has its own rules, making it easy to achieve the required "suspension of disbelief" needed to lose oneself in this saga. One book in the series is not enough - you must read them all. this review will act as my commentary on the entire series. A+!

Here you have Bobby Pendragon once again fighting the seemingly never ending battle against Saint Dane. It was a great story and a great setting, but the ending bothered me a little from an emotional standpoint. From a literary point of view, however, it did make sense because it created the proper mood and suspense that this series has going through several situations. Anyone who has read the other previous books in the series must definitely read this one and the ones that follow, which I myself intend on doing.

Don't know why the Pendragon series never got hugely popular; this is my second time reading it, and it's excellent. I wish every kid (and adult) would take the time, they wouldn't be disappointed. It's magical, suspense-filled, has villains, heroes, the works. I'm buying the series (again), because when my daughter left home, she took her copies with her and I want my own.

This book was the first I read of the series as a kid after grabbing it at the library. It was the only one left of the series. As an adult now I read from the beginning of the series to this point and it makes so much more sense and is even more phenomenal than before! I'm so excited to continue reading and I look forward to including my oldest daughter in reading this series with me in a few short years.
