About the author

Winner of the Holt Medallion, Maggie, Daphne du Maurier, Reviewer’s Choice and Epic awards, Barbara Monajem wrote her first story at eight years old about apple tree gnomes. She published a middle-grade fantasy when her children were young. When they grew up, she turned to writing for adults, first the Bayou Gavotte paranormal mysteries and then Regency romances with intrepid heroines and long-suffering heroes (or vice versa). Some of her Regencies have magic in them and some don’t (except for the magic of love, which is in every story she writes).
Barbara loves to cook, especially soups, and is an avid reader. There are only two items on her bucket list: to make asparagus pudding and succeed at knitting socks. She’ll manage the first but doubts she’ll ever accomplish the second. This is not a bid for immortality but merely the dismal truth. She lives near Atlanta, Georgia with an ever-shifting population of relatives, friends, and feline strays.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2012In this Regency novella, Eliza has carved out an interesting career for herself. She is an artist. But, she paints portraits of men's mistresses and courtesans. She has done a fine job of dodging these scoundrels advances. But they just can't seem to understand that the nude women do nothing for her and she is far from accepting the same position for herself. The hero has a lot to overcome, and the author does an excellent job of showing us how he does just that. This story is well told for as short as it is. Worth the buy.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2012I thought this a delightful read. I love the Regency period, and this one filled the bill. It was short, but it didn't need more length. The author told the story and finished when it was done. I liked both the characters and the plot was something new. Very satisfying read. I'll be reading more of this author's work.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2012A classic historical romance with all the heat necessary to make your face blush!
Eliza is our heroine - artist and mother, she paints naked courtesans for her rakish clients in order to support her family after the death of her husband. She's feisty but realistic, and doesn't take the advances of any rake without her palette knife handy ...
Our hero is the hard-lucked Patrick - his only wish to find a good role model for his daughter. A pious, very obedient woman who will govern his household with a straight-laced fist.
Eliza is definitely not going to fit the image Patrick has in mind. But then ... he doesn't know what's truly good for him ...
Through the meeting of their children, the machinations of an old roguish uncle and the pull of their own chemistry - Patrick and Eliza fall into a battle of wills and hearts that threatens to push them outside of their comfort zones and into a love that neither of them could ever have imagined after the deaths of their first spouses.
A compelling book with a heart warming band of characters and the ending is so true to the characters that it brings with it a tear to the eyes!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2012Even though Eliza Dauntry dresses in unattractive clothes while she's working, she still finds it difficult to convince her clients that she's no light skirt. Perhaps because the widow supports her son by painting nudes for a living.
Patrick Felham is in the market for a wife. He wants someone upstanding who would be an excellent example for his daughter. So why is he attracted to the woman with the notorious reputation?
Notorious Eliza was a satisfying and enjoyable story. The characters were well developed and likeable. I always enjoy a story where the hero has a pre-conceived notion of the heroine that she is able to dismantle by the end of the tale. Good job.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2012Notorious Eliza is a perfect short read with compelling characters and a most unusual story line. I love, love, love that the heroine paints nudes. The romance is well-developed, the setting vivid and the ending satisfying. An engaging story all the way around. Kudos to the Ms. Monajem!
