Confessions of a Military Wife Kindle Edition
As the wife of a Marine Corps officer, Mollie Gross learned the hard way to laugh instead of cry at what she could not control—and as she quickly discovered, nearly everything was out of her control.
A standup comedienne, Mollie explores everything about the “issued” spouse, from deployment and the stress of having a husband in a combat zone, to the realization that marriage changes when your husband returns home from war. Nothing is taboo or out-of-bounds in this funny, poignant memoir, including the “parties” military wives throw for themselves before hubby returns. (You’ll have to read the book to find out about those.)
“Mollie Gross is the Chelsea Handler of the milspouse community. She’s unfiltered, honest, and hilarious, with an underlying message to stop whining and be proud. Think of it as heartfelt humor for the home front.” — Military Spouse magazine
“Mollie’s no-holds-barred account of what it was like during her first four years of being married to a Marine, dealing with the moves, wartime deployments, and life on the home front, will leave you laughing, crying, and shaking your head in disbelief asking, ‘Did she really just say that!?’” — Kristine Schellhaas, founder of USMC Life

-- Kristine Schellhaas, founder USMC Life
"This book will have you laughing so hard you cry, but mostly nodding your head in agreement. As Confessions aptly demonstrates, military spouses lead interesting lives. Leave it to Mollie to turn some of our most candid military spouse moments into fits of laughter!"
-- Tara E Crooks, military lifestyle writer, speaker, talk radio host, and co-founder of Army Wife Network (ArmyWifeNetwork.com)
"Better put on your big girl panties for this wild ride! Mollie's Confessions is not for the faint of heart. She expresses her faith, but nothing is sacred, so if you can handle the minute details of a Brazilian wax and what Bunco parties are really all about, dive right in. Prepare to be uplifted, and by that I mean right out of your chair. You'll either laugh uncontrollably or throw the book across the room. Either way,Mollie's tales of her life as a Marine wife will not leave you unmoved."
-- Terri Barnes, "Spouse Calls," Stars and Stripes
"Underneath this crafty blend of humor, kindred friendships, and life changing experiences lies the universal wisdom applicable to generations of military spouses, past, present, and future. Mollie's comical epiphanies depict her resilience as she grapples with familiar military spouse dilemmas: marriage, deployments, self-discovery, PCS, and career changes. Confessions of a Military Wife is a must-read book, and bound to become a hallmark of contemporary military spouse titles."
-- Tanya Queiro, 2009 Military Spouse of the Year
"My husband was out of the army for two years before I read Mollie's book. He and I rarely talked about deployment and how it affected our relationship. After reading the book I felt comfortable and knowledgeable on how to talk to my husband. Our relationship changed for the better and continues to strengthen each day. I credit Mollie and her book for opening our lines of communication and will forever be grateful."
-- Julie Murphy, Reality TV producer, E!, Style, Bravo, Oprah Winfrey Network
"Mollie's book should be in the hands of every military wife, or anyone curious about the inside scoop on military life. It is refreshing for those of us who have been waiting for someone to tell it like it is! I went from shock to crying and laughing all in one paragraph! Her comedy shows were always the most anticipated event on Camp Pendleton, and I am glad she can now share her hilarious experiences with everyone!"
-- Melody Abshear, Enlisted Wives Club President, Camp Pendleton, 2007-2009
"Confessions is about the wonderful and funny moments of base living--and the culture shock of life as a Marine Corps wife. Any page will give you a quick infusion of laughter that will get you through your day."
-- April Popaditch, Military wife of Nicholas Popaditch (Gunnery Sgt., Ret., USMC), author of Once a Marine

- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2012I started reading this book after my husband deployed to Afghanistan for a one year deployment. I had already read a few other military spouse books about what to expect when being a military spouse and other books where wives told stories about how they coped with the military lifestyle and their husband's deployments. Those books were okay, but not for me. Frankly, they just made me feel worse and they are full of sad stories. Don't get me wrong, I feel for these spouses, but those books do not make you feel good when your husband is in a combat zone. Then I ordered Mollie Gross's book and it was just what I needed. I found myself laughing out loud at many of the parts of the book. I especially enjoyed her stories about her grandma Ruby. This book is not a guide book. If you want a guide book and you need help finding a job, go to ACS... or read a guide book! Mollie states clearly that her book is not a guide book. This book is fun and is meant to make you laugh. She touches on some serious issues, but I think her purpose is to make military spouses feel good and find happiness during a deployment and when dealing with stressful things such as PCS moves. I could relate to her on so many levels and she gives good advice about dealing with families, coping with deployments, moving constantly, etc. Don't take it so seriously and have some fun with the book! I can't wait for Mollie's next book to come out.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2012Reading this book was like sitting down and sharing stories with fellow Marine Corps wives...it touches upon EVERYTHING we wives experience and the emotions we feel..even a little crazy at times..LOVE IT! My husband was enlisted for 10 years and is now currently an officer..he was selected 4 years ago for the Marine Corps Commissioning Program..basically he was a great candidate to switch from enlisted side to officer side (requires extra training after selection and getting his degree than commissioned to an officer)....anyway he is finishing TBS in Quantico and I know well the enlisted side of the Corps as a wife and decided to read this being Mollie writes from her officer wife side..its nice to see most things don't change which was my fear...it is still a wife supporting her Marine's every move and what she goes through! It is INSANELY funny and informative at the same time..whatever branch your husband is in, you will find many related topics in here and even is you are not married to the military it still is the perfect read for everyone who just wants to read a great book and maybe hear some perspective on the lifestyle..I had read half of the book in just one night while in bed unwinding..you cant put it down I promise!!!! LOVE it and LOVE her :)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2012I could not put Confessions of a Military Wife down! Mollie Gross is witty with a go-getter style of writing that I found hysterical and brutally honest. I realize it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was refreshing to hear it all from somewhere who was not afraid to "go there!" As a brand new Air Force wife, the book provided me with several laughs but it made me realize that not every wife I will encounter in the future will fit the "military wife stereotype." It was also so refreshing to read that I share many of those initial "what am I getting into?" feelings with the author, as she describes the beginnings of her marriage.
As my husband and I prepare for an overseas PCS at the end of the summer, this book has definitely helped me go into this adventure with an open mind and willingness to put myself out there when we PCS. The book dives in to many topics about deployments, dealing with extended family, how to be strength for your spouse, as well as the "women of the silent ranks" who understand the demands of country sometimes have to come before your marriage.
I would definitely recommend this book for any military bride young or old. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because the book chronologically jumps around and can be a bit hard to follow, but overall, I was pretty captivated reading the book in its entirety.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2010Having just entered into the "Silent Ranks" myself, I was told to pick up this book as a way to find my way around this new military life. Turns out, this is one of the most important books I may ever read. Mollie is hilarious at the appropriate time, and serious when need-be. Her tone changes just as life changes every day for the wife of a military man.
This book is not for the faint of heart, but her brutal honesty is what made this book so special and especially, hilarious.
At the turn of every page, I was saying, "that's me!" or "I thought I was the only one!" Her ingenious approach to telling the story of being a civillian in a military world was a great welcome for me, and has already been of great use as well. She provides so much information that is exceptionally useful not only for the young wife just starting out in a new life, but also for the experienced military wife who can relate to Mollie's stories, and her trials and tribulations.
A MUST READ for anyone marrying into the military. I will recommend this book for years and years to come. Just don't try to borrow my copy...you never know when you'll need the handy glossary at the back of the book! :)
Thanks for this book, Mollie Gross!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I really loved the book after I discovered it by accident. Its about the authors impression of military life and all that comes with it in a very humorous way. I laughed a lot and enjoyed every page. Mollie Gross wrote that sometimes she just had to take it from a humorous perspective, otherwise she would have cried.
I think this book is really informative and should be given to spouses and future spouses. I enjoyed it very much even though it also shows the hardship of the lifestyle and it is also a very informative book for civilians who want to know what spouses go through every day. They are the silent heroes behind every soldier and should be thanked and appreciated more often. :) A really lovely, funny story that will let you shed some tears too (in my case, tears of laughter).
