About the Author

Carol Marinelli recently filled in a form asking for her job title. Thrilled to be able to put down her answer, she put writer. Then it asked what Carol did for relaxation and she put down the truth - writing. The third question asked for her hobbies. Well, not wanting to look obsessed she crossed the fingers on her hand and answered swimming but, given that the chlorine in the pool does terrible things to her highlights – I’m sure you can guess the real answer.

Carol Marinelli was born in England to Scottish parents, then emigrated to Australia, where there are loads of Scottish and English people who did exactly the same thing, so she's very at home there.

There have always been stories dancing in Carol’s head and since the age of eighteen she dabbled with putting them down on paper, but it was a rather sporadic effort at first - slotted in between nursing and family - until finally she decided to take it more seriously...

The biggest thrill in Carol's writing life was typing, for the first time, The End. For so many years there had been chapters and outlines and endless stop-starts, but having a full story, from start to middle to end, gave her a rush she had never expected. It still does to this day.

We see the darkness that intrudes in the lives of survivors of abuse. It can carry on for generations, but there is a need to break the cycle through counseling if at all possible. This book touched a nerve in me. I recommend it and it deserves 5 stars. Another good book by Carol Marinelli

So when i read the reviews for this book, most were really good. after the first chapter it got a little confusing, but that was related to the confusing writing not the plot line, characters or dialog, that was actually very good.It was confusing because it felt like chunks of sentences were missing, like someone tore out bits and pieces of the text. I was giving up hope but then all of a sudden the book turned around and the writing became very very good. reminded me of some of Diana Palmer's older books. the ending went a little fast, like the author rushed the ending a bit, but i did not mind.
I really did like the plot line, really like the female lead. she was really cute. if your think you might like this book, just keep in mind the beginning is a little hard to get through, but picks it picks up.

Both main characters had complicated pasts, that led them through difficulties that culminated into a wonderful relationship. The story line is real life occurrences. Assuming as oppose to facing the fear of asking questions, almost led to the forever demise of their relationship. The story was well written; the characters were well explored and explained. Enjoyed the reading

believable characters. a great read. Story line developed quickly. The only hard to believe part was him taking a walk in the beginning and then going to someone's house to pick up things? Once you get over that "misunderstanding" then the novel goes ok.

Emma needs a job to help pay for her father's care. Luca needs an assistant to help his other PA as she's trying to have a baby. When Emma dismisses Luca she is hired for the job. She may be the one woman that is immune to Luca's charm. But as Emma and Luca start spending more time together she falls under his spell. Both Luca and Emma discover what they thought they knew about their parent's wasn't really the truth. Luca realizes that there is no longer anything preventing him from making a long term commitment.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I found this book to be enjoyable. Luca is very likable despite his playboy past. Emma is sweet. All in all a good read.

The other reviewers are right - the story starts out rather confusing but then, after the first two chapters, it settles out and gains wonderful momentum. Some of this was due to the authors style and some due to the story's context I think. By the time I was 2/3rds thru the story I was able to think back to the first two chapters and understand them better. I ended up totally loving these characters and this book. Recommended. Kudos to the author.

Although the hero made me mads, I loved this book. I love books that make me want to throw a fit and punch a guy in he nose for being a rat . My two boys think I,m nuts. I'm Sicilian myself, born in Palermo, I know a lot about family secrets and sticking it out for the families. Thank God things have changed, women worldwide do not tolerate that kind of thing anymore, unfortunately the older generations in Sicily were as depicted in this story. I really liked Emma, but Luca I wanted to hit over the head with a tire iron. Oil, if you like books that engage your emotions, and just generally tee you off then read this book. Don't know what else to tell you.

I give it a rate of 8 for writing content and the mystery of how it was going to end

5.0 out of 5 stars Für einen Groschenroman wirklich gut!
Reviewed in Germany on April 11, 2015

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice story, difficult prose
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 29, 2012
I bought this book after reading the first chapter for free. It was a nice story but I found it a bit disjointed and difficult to follow at parts. I have read other books by Carole Marinelli and rather enjoyed them. My experience with this book wouldn't put me off buying more of her work in future. Once I got into the storyline , I was engrossed hence why I'm still up at 4:40am writing this review! I recommend this book.
