Hannah McGuire's resort-town life had been quiet, happy and safe. Until her best friend was murdered and the investigation forced her into a partnership with Dr. Rex Logan—the man she'd loved, lost and been hiding from for six years.

Rex had put Hannah's life in danger once before. Now he had to face her again, and this time, to protect her, he was staying close—very close. Working to expose a terrorist secret that could threaten global security, Rex was defenseless in the face of the powerful passion that still simmered between them. But was passion enough? And when Hannah told Rex her own secret—that she'd borne him a son—would she put all their lives in grave danger?

I discovered this author after reading In the Barren Ground almost a year ago. I loved that book so much that I immediately started looking for her other works. This one was by far my least favorite. It's a fairly short book, and there's some good action, but the romance parts fell flat. Rex was too "I have to protect this woman, and though I love her I can never be with her again", and Hannah was "I can't fall for him again and I can't tell him I had his child". Ugh.

The best part of this book was the setting. Like all the other LAW books that I've read, she has a knack for setting the book in places where it's almost another character.

This wasn't a terrible book, but these I'd recommend more:

    In the Barren Ground
    A Dark Lure
    In the Waining Light
    The Slow Burn of Silence
    The Drowned Girls

Melting the Ice by Loreth Anne White
    ~ Silhouette Intimate Moments #1254 ~ October 2003

When Hannah's missing best friend's body is discovered high in the mountain it draws attention to the quiet resort town. Something sinister is brewing and Rex Logan is being sent to uncover the truth. Running into Hannah again revives feelings Rex had thought long buried. Hannah's whole life is shaken again by Rex, only this time she has more at stake to lose than her heart, she has Rex's son's heart to protect as well. This is Ms. White's debut and for most of the story I was captivated both by the raw emotions of the characters and the harsh beauty of the BC local. I'm looking forward to reading more from Ms. White.
