    WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD

Samantha "Sam" Kennedy is still grappling with the aftermath of to being captured and tortured by a serial killer (in Deadly Fear). Her belief in herself as an agent was a bit shaky to begin with, and she is still beating herself up at being taken. And then there are the nightmares and fears that bubble up when she remembers what happened to her.

She has always felt a bit like an outsider - she is incredibly bright and earned 2 masters before most had completed undergraduate studies. She was recruited by the elite Special Services Division (SSD) of the FBI - a unit dedicated to catching serial predators - mostly to leverage her superb computer skills, and not so much to serve as a field-agent. And she couldn't help feel both young and inadequate among her SSD colleagues - especially the legendary (and contained) Monica Davenport.

One night, she goes out to a bar hoping to find someone that can help her forget. She wants to be someone different, for one night, and leave her baggage and doubts behind. This behavior is very out of character for her, but she's feeling desperate to do something to shake off her malaise.

She meets Max Ridgeway, and it's instant attraction. They have one night together, and then she leaves while he's sleeping - but not before she figures out who he is, as she recognizes his stepfather in a photo). Fast forward a little bit and she realizes she wants one more night, so she tracks him down at a black tie event. Still, she is determined to keep her 2 worlds from meeting - she does not want him to know what she does, even though she does give him her full name.

Unfortunately, her worlds don't just meet, but they collide when his stepbrother becomes the victim of a serial kidnapper-turned-murderer who is targeting the sons of wealthy families.

The suspense plot is quite well-done, since it is clear that nothing is as it seems. How it all unfolds reveals quite a bit about the terrain of truly disturbed individuals - especially one who lacks empathy and actually likes physical pain.

Along the way, Max and Sam clash - particularly when he fears that her involvement is putting his stepbrothers life at risk. But as much as Max tries to hang onto his ire, something about Sam gets to him. And when she tells him what she went through so recently, he is so wonderfully loving and supportive.

Sam and this case also bring out additional elements of/insights into the other characters previously introduced in this series - especially Hyde, Luke and Monica. They are all worried about Sam, and are struggling to find the right way to support her. They want to be caring without making her feel weak. They want her to recognize that she actually IS strong - but they can't force her to do so. Her well-being, whether that is aided by remaining with SSD or leaving, is clearly important to these people who clearly care about her. Still, they have to worry about the case and SSD's effectiveness - and some tough decisions may have to be made if Sam can't find her footing. These parts of the story were not over-dramatized, but for me they added texture, since the caring way her teammates dealt with her also revealed more about them.

In the end, it felt right that Sam and Max were together, and they seemed a believable couple. They had bonded before the case had ever thrown them further together - much to both of their surprise - and it was plausible that they had a foundation upon which they could build a lasting relationship.

Loved the third book in this series. Very exciting twist with a crew of characters from the first two books. Another great read from one of my favorite authors.

I just finished reading Deadly Lies and I was disappointed that it ended. This was an amazing trilogy. Full of so much sizzling hot romance, lots of mystery and suspense, and action. It was fast paced and very hard to put down. Each installment was as great as the other. I do have to suggest that if you choose to read this and I HIGHLY recommend it, you should start at the beginning with Deadly Fear, then go to Deadly Heat and then finally Deadly Lies. It's important because you not only get to meet and learn about the supporting characters but also learn their back history.

That being said, Deadly Lies brings us the story of Samantha Kennedy's struggle to overcome her fears that she experienced in the first novel, Deadly Fear. She meets Max Ridgeway who not only turns her world upside down, but breaks down her walls she's built up. She learns to trust him, and for her trust is almost impossible.

Max's world is turned upside down from the minute he meets Samantha; he can't get her out of his mind. Then his brother is kidnapped and everything is not what it seems.

The title of this novel, Deadly Lies, is the perfect title for this. There was so many lies and deceits you have no idea what's happening throughout. A lot of twist and turns until the end.

The only thing I do wish is that it didn't end. It would have been great to have a HEA for Ramirez, Hyde and Daniels.

Great series. Highly recommended. I hope Cynthia Eden keeps writing Romantic Suspense novels, she does such an great job of them. All of them are very enjoyable and highly addictive.

I've read this entire series and I've been waiting for Sam's story. She was the agent repeatedly drowned by "the watchman", being made to live her worst fear. Since then she's had to prove she's ready to go back in the field. Even though she's mostly used for computer work, she still needs to be able to face a madman and not freak.
To help with her fears she picks up a man from a bar and has a one night stand. Little did she know that Max, the ONS would haunt her every night. Now Sam is on a case and Max pops up again.
The SSD is on the case of a madman who kidnaps college boys, sons of wealthy men. He calls in a ransom and if it's not paid or if the cops are called, he sends the boys home...in pieces. He always asks the same question. "How much is your son worth?"
Max doesn't know that Sam is an FBI agent, Sam didn't realize that Max was wealthy until Max' s little brother is the newest victim of the kidnapper. Sam tags along and tries to help without letting anyone know she's FBI. Eventually Max finds out and guarantees to blame her if anything happens to his brother. Sam and the rest of the team have to stay one step ahead of the kidnapper before Max' s brother becomes the next murder victim.
I loved that Sam is a broken woman trying to find her place in the world. She finds peace and acceptance with Max and struggles to bring both sides of her life together. Max has an ugly past but he understands Sam and wants her by his side.
This story kept me guessing. Everything we thought about the kidnapper is wrong. People are lying so kids keep dying. I could not put the book down! I stayed up way too late just to figure out how it all ended. Great read!

spoilt, for me by the boring and repetitive sex scenes. I have read all three of the Deadly books over the last two days because I liked the stories and most of the characters. The downside to reading these books in such a short space of time is that the formula/pattern used in all three books is very apparent. However, as virtually all fiction is based on a variation of roughly half a dozen themes, I am not really bothered about being able to identify the formula if the author manages to introduce enough differences to make each book interesting.
That said, as stated earlier, I did become bored and irritated by the needlessly protracted and frequent sex scenes. In my opinion, they only served to increase the length of each book. I did not feel that they were in any way necessary to show the
intensity of the character's feelings for his/her lover; a touch or a look would have been just as effective.
I would recommend these books, I think the stories are good, and others might enjoy the sex scenes, if not they can do what I did and just skip them
