Six months after her lover died in an arsonist's blaze, firefighter Lora Spade calls in the FBI's elite Serial Services Division to track the elusive killer. When Special Agent Kenton Lake is lured into a violent inferno, Lora pulls him to safety and is stunned - not by the fire, but by her own searing attraction to Kent. For the first time in months, she longs for something other than vengeance.
He wants her . . .
Kenton's interest in Lora should be purely professional. But one fleeting kiss and he can't get her out of his mind. Her combination of strength and vulnerability makes him want to protect her, and that means solving this case - and fast. For even the passion igniting between them can't hide a terrifying truth: Lora is the next target in a murderer's sadistic, fiery game.
A vicious killer wants only . . .

- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2013Another exciting read by Cynthia Eden. The second book from the Deadly Trilogy was a suspenseful as the first one. This one involved Kenton Lake, one of the SSD Agents and Lora Spade, a firefighter. Kenton and Lora had such great chemistry from the beginning. Both are strong characters and a perfect match for each other. We already know Kenton, and when we meet Lora, we realize she's not just someone who always needs help or rescuing, she's strong, and stubborn and a perfect fit. Being a firefighter, you have to be tough and not let fear stop you. Lora's realy weakness is learning to love because she's lost in the past. Meetin Kenton, she has to learn to open up and love again, even though theres that possibility of losing.
I absolutely loved this book. It was as great as the first one. Lots of twists and turns, another great whodunit. I kept trying to figure out who the killer was and thought for sure I knew, but again I had no clue and was surprised by who it really was. I do enjoy a great mystery. Cynthia Eden does such excellent job in combining sizzling romance, suspense, mystery, humor and action in one fast paced, action packed novel.
We get to see the rest of the SSD team including Luke and Monica, Sam, Ramirez, Kim and Hyde, which I totally enjoyed.
Not to spoil anything but one of the funniest scenes was when Kenton meets Lora's brothers. I couldn't stop laughing.
Well written and very hard to put down. I can't wait to read the next one. Just wish the Deadly Trilogy didn't end.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2011I read Cynthia Eden's second book in her Deadly series on Saturday. It's called Deadly Heat. As usual, Ms. Eden did not disappoint. Her hero is ultra swoon-worthy and so sexy. Her heroine was just like I like my heroines- strong, sassy and a match for any man.
The story centers on a series of arsons where victims are trapped in the flames and don't really have a chance to survive. The heroine is a firefighter and the hero is a member of an elite unit of the FBI. His unit is called in to help solve the crimes of this serial arsonist.
One of the reasons I love to read romantic suspense is to challenge myself to solve the mystery before the characters do. I thought I knew who-dun-it about half way through the book. I was right but it was fun to read how Ms. Eden got the characters to solve the crimes and well as get the hero and heroine to the resolution of their love story.
The sex scenes are as hot and good as we've come to expect from this writer and I highly recommend this book. Run, don't walk, and grab this one. If you haven't read Book One in this series, Deadly Fear, you need to grab it, too. Book three comes out March 1, 2011 and I'll be one of the first in line to grab it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2015So, I've been on a Cynthia Eden kick recently, and I don't foresee it ending ant time soon. I really love the hidden secrets and inner darkness of her characters. I'm really not sure how I missed finding these books before, but in any case, they are making me happy now.
This story features Lora and Kent. I really liked Kent in book one of this series, and as his darker personality aspects come to light in this story, I like him even better. Lora is a firefighter. After her lover was killed in an arson fire, she spent six months trying to investigate on her own only to end up requesting the help of the SSD. Kent is the agent the SSD sends. Before he ever meets Lora, she ends up having to save him from another arson fire. Kent can't deny the instant spark of attraction he feels for Lora. As the two are assigned to work together chasing down the serial murderer who uses fire as his weapon, things between them heat up fast. Kent is determined to keep Lora safe, but Lora is used to a career of taking risks and doesn't intend to hide behind Kent while a killer goes free. In the end, it will take both of them together to stop the fires from spreading.
I was totally engrossed in this story and absolutely loved the characters. I'm ready for the next story.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great read
Lora spade is a fire fighter and has requested the help off the SSD on a suspected serial arsonist who killed her colleague and lover, kenton is the lead special agent in charge of the case and immediately sparks fly between the two main characters as they try to stop the deaths and fires in their search for the arsonist who has named himself the phoenix.
this is a fast paced read that doesn't let up and keeps you hooked until the end, all the characters are three dimensional and interesting, it is also good to hear monica and luke from deadly lies are involved in the case as well as other characters. I love cynthia eden she is my favourite author and I have read all of her books and I am never disapointed, she is an automatic buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful new series! Why so short?!
IA writing duo currently have 3 main ongoing series (I hope!): Kate Daniels, Kinsmen and Innkeeper (the Edge isn't ongoing as it's already a completed set of 4 books).
All are scifi fantasy, written with humour, romance, a pinch of realism and enough complexity twists and turns to keep you interested but not so much you'd loose the plot or world and gain a headache!
Kate Daniels: magic and tech world combine with vamps, weres and things that go bump in the night. Legends take on new life and twists. Myths became reality in this new world. And the duo team isn't scared to kill of fav characters (sob!) to add richness to the story. The world IA created for KD and co is almost medieval yet modern. Weird but it works.
Kinsmen: tech and magic and other worlds combine with super abilities whether tech or magic base. World is more futuristic written with humour, romance and plots. Not as complex as in KD series as stories are too short ... They are short novellas (rumbling ...hungry for full novels) ... But make great appetisers.
Innkeeper: magic and different worlds are dominant with tech as a natural spice to this combination of current time and alien races. Written with a twist of humour, pinches of reality and splashes of twists and plots. A novella ... Full length novels please?
I'm not mentioning the Edge series because it's a completed series made up of four books - fab series! Definitely worth buying.
I became an IA fan for any book (which is rare for me) because I love Kate Daniels series and couldn't wait for more to become available as I'm reading too fast! So I tried all IA books and love the edge, kinsmen and innkeeper series (!) as well as all the anthologies.
Please IA keep these 3 series going (Kate Daniels, kinsmen and innkeeper as the edge is completed) but please not teasers (cos last two are that!) but full blown length books! That'd be amazing and so satisfying. Btw love the Conran volumes may we have more please?
On another note congrats on new series with Avon can't wait to read it!
I actually don't search my books under genre. I search under author's names and keep pressing that magic buy button until I got all the copies! Reading is my only vice so I really indulge :) So it doesn't matter how you market your books I'd buy them and so will your fans!
Just keep writing!! More, longer, faster please?! Whip cream and cherry on top! Mega thanks for fab reads!!
PS writing this at 4am hope it all make sense! X
