Diary of a Narcissistic Bloodsucker, a Humorous Vampire Tale Kindle Edition
Zara is a very naughty vampire. She lusts for both sex and blood. Unfortunately, something has gone awry and her normal habits now create new problems to solve. In the midst of sorting things out, she meets an intriguing human named Niven -- a musician who lives in the magical kingdom of contemporary Boulder, CO -- and discovers that he is much more than he appears to be. Then, if things weren't interesting enough, Zara encounters her old mentor/lover -- the vampire who originally turned her -- and things get downright supernatural.

Lynda Hilburn, author of the Kismet Knight, Vampire Psychologist series, writes paranormal fiction. More specifically, she writes stories about vampires, witches, psychics, ghosts and other supernatural characters. After a childhood filled with invisible friends, sightings of dead relatives and a fascination with the occult, turning to the paranormal was a no-brainer. In her other reality, she makes her living as a licensed psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, professional psychic/tarot reader, university instructor and workshop presenter. This story reads not like a diary, but more like a one-sided directed conversation. Zara speaks directly to the reader throughout this short story. I realize Zara's supposed to be narcissistic, and she definately IS. She even goes so far as to describe herself physically in the third person. "You will note that she has the much desired hourglass figure, and her large, firm breasts always make a wonderful first impression." I did like how the story ended, and Zara "got back" at her maker.
Writing Style: 4 Stars
A stream-of-consciousness journal, as Ms. Hilburn has Zara describe the story, is an extremely accurate description of what is found in this story. There were a few too many commas sprinkled through the story, but if you read the story as if Zara is talking to you then I suppose there are commas wherever she would take a breath.
