About the Author

Dr. Dahlman's Experience with IBS:

Since this is my story, I don't find it all that interesting, but it's amazing how few antibiotics it takes to unbalance your gastrointestinal system.
I had managed for over 20 years to avoid the use of antibiotics.  A few years ago, I found that I had rubbed some skin off my elbow on the arm of a chair.  A couple of days later, within a couple of hours, my elbow swelled to the size of a golf ball.  Diagnosis: Staph infection.
Considering the size, pain and heat associated with my elbow, I decided to take an antibiotic.  I didn't want to mess around with an elbow that hurt and got in the way a lot and I knew I could probably mediate any damage the antibiotics did to my beneficial bacterial population  by taking the same probiotic I recommend to my patients.
A few weeks after the course of antibiotics, the problems started.  First with some gurgling noises and then quickly turned to diarrhea.  There were some stomach aches and lots of gas and bloating.  I had to go 4-5 times a day and I can still remember leaving a hotel in Chicago to run the Chicago Marathon and having to turn my car around in the parking lot so I could go up to my hotel room and go to the bathroom before I got to the starting line.
I put myself on the treatment plan that I was using for all my patients.  The plan that you are reading about in this book is actually a more complete plan due to what I learned through my own experience.  Time kept going by and I couldn't seem to shake the problem. Without going into the boring details, I began looking at the bacterial levels differently and I interpreted lab results differently.
Prior to my experience with IBS, many of my patients were getting better, but not all.  Now, because of the refinement of my IBS program, all the patients who allow me to walk them through the step-by-step plan outlined in this book will see a complete elimination of any uncomfortable symptoms associated with their gastrointestinal tract.

Although I've purchased dozens of books on Amazon, this is the first one that inspired me to write a review.

My digestion was just fine (as far as I know), until 18 months ago when I was hospitalized for 9 days due to a small intestine blockage. The surgeon explained that the blockage was caused by an adhesion from a previous surgery, which he repaired.

After this 9 day hospitalization, I started having frequent bouts of diarrhea, nose and eye infections, skin rashes, and several food sensitivities. For 17 months, I tried adjusting my diet. I also took a variety of supplements, including a (low quality) probiotic. I started loosing weight, and became very concerned. The only medical treatment I sought during this time was for the nose infections, for which I received antibiotics.

I hadn't made any connection between my digestive problems and my other symptoms. After extensive Internet research, I began to realize that all of these symptoms may be related. While searching for more information which might help me, I found several books on Amazon which I ordered after reading the reviews.

After implementing the basic four step plan outlined in this book, I saw immediate improvement. Now, three weeks later, my symptoms are essentially resolved. The process of reintroducing foods (to which I had become sensitive), is continuing. My symptoms are resolved because the author helped me to understand and fix the root cause of my problem.

The author clearly understands the issues involved in digestive problems which may result from antibiotics and other substances. Further, he is able to effectively communicate those issues to the reader, along with a relatively simple strategy for resolving the problems. I am very grateful to him for writing this book, and I highly recommend it.

I’m not sure if this book has been expanded from a 40 page booklet to full book or not Either way it changed my life dramatically. The thesis of the book some disease of the bowl can be permanently cured

I was diagnosed with Autoimmune ulcerative Colitis in 2006 It effected my entire body. Sometimes I couldn’t get of bed for days because the excruciating pain I was admitted to the hospital 9 times in a four year period The only thing that control it was a med costing $1008 per month and that was with insurance With good fortune I found a Canadian Pharmacy where I received a 6 month generic version for $200

The problem with the meds. It was taken twice a day and if you missed a few doses you would have a flair up

In the book the Doctor explained the reason things like UC, Crohns and IBS never go away is the Bowl is never fully healed There are recommendations for diets and lifestyle changes Being in the medical field of course I ignored all those

In the book is a recipe for basically a homemade type milkshake contains 20 plus natural ingredients like peppermint oil. You make it yourself in a blender Drink it twice a day for 6 weeks After that I was able to drop my medication and haven’t had a single flare up in over 12 years

When I went for my 6 month GI exam The doctor who made the original diagnosis was puzzled. Wondered if he had misdiagnosed Under scope the bowl had no scarring or inflammation it was totally healthy I never had to go back to the Doctor again

At least for me it was a complete Miracle

When I received this book, it amazed me at my research for treating Crohn's Disease for my 13 year old son. I started to look anywhere and everywhere for answers because his doctor based drugs weren't working entirely. In fact, he is on double the dose and frequency of remicade infusions which my insurance will not cover anymore. This book opened my eyes and I made significant changes to my son's diet which is healing him. A very good book to read when you have to look for other options of treatment.

I was very impressed at the information presented in this book by Dr. Dahlman. I read this for my husband who has digestive disorders and would love to implement, but the supplements recommended are costly on a monthly basis (several $100s) although I believe it's a limited program. The diet is very extreme also. He would never follow it so he continues to have issues that don't allow him to lose weight and he takes enzyme pills with each meal to control bloating.

My son has had colitis for 2 years now, and it has taken a turn for the worse. We ordered this book not expecting much, but we will try anything. I have already read it twice and I had that moment, when I finally got what colitis really is. His medication was just a bandage for all his symptoms, but not curing any of them. This book and Dr. Dahlman teaches you how to address each symptom separately. Ultimately getting to the root of the problem. My son has started the protocol as of last week. And day by day, his symptoms are slowing subsiding. He misses a lot of his favorite foods, but most of them will be introduced later. I haven't felt this hopeful in a long time. If you or a loved one suffers from any kind of IBS problem, please read this and follow his program to the letter. The food allergy testing is key. My sons doctor never requested this so we did it on our own. He is allergic to dairy products. He was still eating yogurt and drinking kefir. Eliminating those foods made a big difference.

I was treated for Ulcerative Colitis for thirty five years, many medications, terrible tests to go through every year. After reading the book I decided I would try the Wheat free, no gluten diet. I have only been on it for about four months and cannot believe the improvement I have seen. I knew where every toilet was. Now I can get on the road and not worry about it. If I happen to eat something different I might have a flare up the next day, because someone has had something with wheat added that I did not know about. Definitely worth reading if you have this kind of problem

For some unexpected reason I got e-coli a few days ago. The symptoms all pointed to e-coli and going to the doctor I would have not been any wiser. Btw, antibiotics are pointless on e-coli. Natural remedies are out there and they work. Within 48 hours I started feeling better, although it took one week to get back to ‘normality’. We all have choices about our health. We can take “that” pill (blue or red) and hope that all be well or we can take care of ourselves. The pill will suppress the symptoms only; looking at the root of the problem, under a different perspective, might heal the whole body. Great book, worth adding knowledge on every aspect of our life.

A very detailed and informative study of IBS. An affliction that most doctors have no idea about or care either.
