“Truly, deeply romantic.”
—Eloisa James

“Anna Campbell is an amazing, daring new voice in romance.”
—Lorraine Heath

The extraordinary Anna Campbell is making her mark in the world of historical romance fiction. New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens calls her dark and captivating stories of love and passion, “Regency noir—different and intriguing,” while USA Today bestseller Kathryn Smith raves that, “Anna Campbell writes with the kind of intense emotion and dark passion that entraps the reader and refuses to let them go until the last page is read.” With Midnight’s Wild Passion, she delights readers once again with a richly emotional story of vengeance, passion, and redemption—as a notorious seducer’s plans to ruin the daughter of his enemy are thwarted by his intended victim’s guardian, a beautiful, worldly wise lady with a weakness for handsome rogues. Fans of Lisa Kleypas and early Catherine Coulter take note: Anna Campbell is definitely your cup of hot and spicy tea!

From the Back Cover

London's most notorious seducer, Nicholas Challoner lives solely for revenge . . .

The dashing, licentious Marquess of Ranelaw can never forgive Godfrey Demarest for ruining his sister—now the time has come to repay the villain in the same coin. But one formidably intriguing impediment stands in the way of Nicholas's vengeance: Miss Antonia Smith, companion to his foe's unsuspecting daughter.

Having herself been deceived and disgraced by a rogue—banished by her privileged family as a result and forced to live a lie—Antonia vows to protect her charge from the same cruel fate. She recognizes Ranelaw for the shameless blackguard he is and will devote every ounce of her intelligence and resolve to thwarting him.

Yet Antonia has always had a fatal weakness for rakes . . .

Here's my trouble with books by Anna Campbell. Once I start reading one of her books I can't stop for the life of me and nothing else matters except getting to the satisfying, delicious end. Maybe I'm weird but there you have it. I won't rehash the story again as other reviewers already have done that. However, this story doesn't deserve anything under 5 stars and I would give it more if I could. If you're still unsure if you should read this book, here are some helpful hints:
Do you like

1. Tortured rakes?
2. Did I mention tortured rakes?
3. A Heroine with A SPINE?
4. Plenty of Emotions (and Passion)?
5. Fleshed out characters, not only hero and heroine but secondary characters too?
6. Did I mention a Heroine with A SPINE?

If you do, go get the book. Happy reading!

After reading a bad review I thought I would add my thoughts about this book. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed it. It did take a few pages into the story before I was sold on it. I do feel the author brought the characters alive and dialogue was excellent. I read a lot of historical romance novels and they almost always follow a certain pattern (isn't that why we read them?). I actually thought this one was a little different. When I finish a book feeling satisfied, that's a good read. This book was a pleasure. I will buy more from this author and recommend you give it a try.

...gawd I hate for this story to end. I hate to say goodbye, no matter how temporary, to these wonderful characters!

Lord Nicholas Challoner, Marquess of Ranelaw..an arrogant, cynical, handsome scoundrel and determined to avenge the ruin of his beloved eldest sister, Eloise...no matter how long it takes. He's planned and plotted for twenty years to take his vengeance on Lord Godfrey Demarest...the man who ruined his sister, by ruining his daughter, Cassandra Demarest.

Lady Antonia Hillard...running from her shameful past and disguised as a matronly, dowdy chaperone to her innocent 18 year old cousin, Cassandra Demarest, a Debutant entering her first Season in London. Circumstances force Antonia to assume this new false identity and change her name to Miss Antonia Smith, praying she's never recognized. Usually her tactics work as nobody looks twice at a 27 year old spinster chaperone. But Lord Ranelaw see's more and his interest is challenged by "Miss Smith". He decides he'll seduce and have her as well as ruining the debutante, Cassandra Demarest. An eye for an eye. He doesn't know, however, that Miss Smith (Antonia) has fallen prey to the likes of Lord Ranelaw 10 years ago and was ruined. Her radar is on "high alert" when it comes to rakes such as he! She's onto him as she knows exactly what he is no matter how slick he pretends to be otherwise....she's not fooled.

I loved reading Nicholas' POV...his strategy and planning to get Antonia into bed etc. At times it's simply hilarious. He's so arrogant and feels he's "God's gift to women". It's just a riot when he fails and his confusion is astronomical. His flirting falls flat. He's using the same suave tactics that have worked on hundreds of other women for pete's sake!

Nicholas falls hard for Antonia thinking once he beds her, he'll be over her and he can move on. Unfortunately for him, bedding her only magnifies his desire, which becomes an obsession. He begins to struggle with new emotions never felt within himself before~~admiration of Antonia...possessiveness, protectiveness...emotions completely and utterly foreign to him and he has no idea how to break this fatal fascination of Antonia.

I absolutely loved this story. Ms. Campbell painstakingly draws the readers into this delicious plot and leads them, inch by wonderful slow inch, through each step and phase of progression. There's no rush and because of her talented capabilities..because of her expert writing, the reader has no choice but to feel connected as one with the main characters...there is no other alternative than to fall into the emotional abyss facing Antonia and Nicholas. The journey to and from is absolutely exquisite.

So get your Casseroles made in advance, Ladies - - you won't wanna put this one down!

Did the hero/heroine meet at midnight even once in this book? I don't recall. There's nothing I dislike more than a tawdry, unrelated title on a GREAT book, and this is no exception! Okay, there was a lot of passion, but.... At any rate, I wasn't familiar with this author and I'm glad I read this book as it was above average. It contained believable characterizations and the "misunderstanding" factor that seems so prevelant in this genre was cleverly incorporated without using a heavy hand (or maybe I should say, without using dozens of pages of useless dialogue). The conclusion was wonderful and my only complaint is that it ended too soon -- I would have loved a few more chapters!

This book could have easily received a higher rating if there had been more meaningful dialog and much less space devoted to what the characters were thinking. You had to read two or three pages after a comment or question were spoken before a reply was made. Some of the time I had to turn back to determine the original comment. The premise was promising, but needed more "meat" to it. Lengthy sensual scenes have their places in the story, but they were toooo drawn out. I can only hope this author has access to an excellent editor. I will try one more book by Ms. Campbell to see if there has been improvement.

I loved this book. Nicholas and Antonia were great together and I loved their romance. I enjoyed their fights and then the hot love scenes. this was my first for this author and I will be looking for more by her. I also loved how this book stayed interesting the whole way through. some romances will getting boring and then pick up again. this never did. it was amazing and I recommend. its a standalone too for people who don't like to read series.

Wow, Anna C has done it again. Thoroughly enjoyed the passion, angst and pain the H&h went through to get their happy ending. From the first few pages, this book captured me and I read it all in one day with a very very late night. Highly recommend, one of her best.

....FROM START TO FINISH!!

The first reviewer says it all so well that I don't have to elaborate any more than has already been done in the above review. After reading a few Paranormals and a Christine Feehan recently, I felt the need to go back to one of my other favourite genres, Historical Romance; I was not disappointed when I picked this up and could not stop until I had reached the last lovely page. Reading this book was an assault on the senses that I haven't felt for quite a while and I loved every moment of it!

With a wonderful cast of characters and a great ending.

I have loved all Anna Campbell's books so I give 5 stars for the pleasure it brought to me. I will re-read this in the future when I have recovered sufficiently, of course.

Finally Anna Campbell delivers for me! I've always known she can write but her plots have tended to be a bit dark and sordid and the h is often treated badly by the H. This latest novel is much more uplifting - very romantic and passionate with a great H and h. It's also very witty and is packed full of humour.

10 years ago, Lady Antonia was ruined by a man and cast off by her father the earl. She is now disguised as Miss Smith and working as a chaperone for a distant cousin. However, the father of the cousin ruined the Marquess of Ranelaw's illegitimate sister and he has vowed revenge. His plan is to seduce and ruin the young cousin. Antonia is determined to protect her cousin from the Marquess. Antonia has first hand experience of how awful it is to be ruined by a man and she will not let it happen to her cousin. Antonia and the Marquess clash - lots of chemistry and super hot sex scenes that are very romantic.

Antonia and the Marquess are both strong characters. Their dialogue is lively and original and the development of their attraction believable. The only reason I have not given this 5 stars is because I would have liked at least one ball where Antonia has taken back her rightful place in society and can show off the beauty she has had to hide for years.

This is the first AC novel that I am keeping to read again. I really hope her next novel is as good.

I write this review after reading this book for the second time. I found it even more compelling than when I read it originally. I will not go into the story as this has already been covered by other reviewers, however, I felt that I must just say that both times I found that I could not put this down and read it in one sitting. Although the hero was very flawed you still find yourself wanting him and Antonia to find love together and the ending brings a lump to your throat. I now find myself looking for my next Anna Campbell book to read. Hope it will be as good as Midnights Wild Passion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Anna!

This is the third book I've read by this author, and once again, I'm not disappointed.

Well known womaniser and rake, Nicholas Challoner, the Marquess of Ranelaw is out for revenge. He will seduce Cassandra, the daughter of his enemy, Godfrey Demarest, a man who ruined his sister, and now lives in Ireland as a nun. He thinks the plan will work easily, but then he meets Cassandra's chaperone, Miss Antonia Smith.

Despite her glasses and dowdy appearance, Ranelaw is drawn to Antonia, but Antonia is aware his designs on Cassie aren't honourable, and is determined to protect her. But Ranelaw isn't put off, and doesn't see why he can't learn more about Antonia, as well as seduce Cassie.

But Antonia is hiding a secret, known only to Cassie and her father. They grow closer, and Antonia can't hide her temptation. But she's been stung before, and can't risk her heart again. She hopes Ranelaw will leave Cassie alone, but he tells her he can't. All the while, they are trying to unearth each others secrets, whilst fighting their attractions. And just when Ranelaw believes he's finally got his woman, Antonia's past catches up with her and decisions have to be made. What will Antonia choose?

Overall, the book was excellent. Nicholas and Antonia are perfectly matched, and it was fun to watch their love unfold.

Now to choose which unread Anna Campbell to read next.
