The Forever Young Diet & Lifestyle Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 102 ratings

From a cardiologist and a nutritionist, a holistic plan for healthy aging and wellness rooted in the ancestral eating habits of hunter gatherers.

“The Forever Young program is the scientifically based plan that will bring your life back into synch with your genetic identity, restoring your youthful vigor and glow, while at the same time optimizing your health, quality of life, and longevity.” —James O'Keefe, MD and Joan O'Keefe, RD

In a field plagued by “miracle” diets and sketchy information,
The Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle presents a commonsense plan that improves satiety; promotes wholesome, fresh, and easily obtained foods; and reinforces a rational, holistic, mind-body approach to diet and lifestyle. The program is a complete package that can help provide a lifetime of energy and good health.

Most of our health problems today result from a mismatch between the world we are designed for and the very different one in which we live. The modern American leading a sedentary lifestyle of automobiles, couches, televisions, computers, and junk food is like a fish out of water. Our genes have changed minimally over the past few thousand years, yet our diets and lifestyles have become progressively more divergent from those of our ancient ancestors.

The Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle outlines the path back to our natural needs and rhythms. Firmly grounded in the medically proven Hunter-Gatherer diet, the plan easily promotes weight loss, vastly improves energy levels, enhances sleep and concentration, and restores the natural youthful glow we should have at any age. Cardiologist James O'Keefe and his wife, Joan, a registered dietitian, provide a down-to-earth, sensible program that's satisfying and easy to follow.

Forever Young is a book that ought to be required reading for every senior, every parent , in fact, for everyone over 15. It is concise, easy to read and based on both common sense and well researched science. It does not take the joy out of life, it adds to the joy.

Further, I have met Dr. James O'Keefe on more than one occasion. In one instance it was on the football field of local high school. He and two buddies were working out. It was a manly workout. Few that I know could even do it - big weights - things like giant tractor tires were manhandled using every muscle and a lot of will power, he walks the walk. I think he is closing in on 60 and he looks 30.

Do yourself a favor - live better - longer. Nuff said.

The Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle  is a super dooper, motivational diet, exercise, and lifestyle book.

As a lifetime Weight Watcher member, this book supports all of the nutritional guidelines I've learned through Weight Watchers; and it explains the science behind food, nutritional supplements, exercise, sleep patterns, and so many other quality of life choices.

I'm back on track with my food and exercise because of reading this book. I've also added baby aspirin and Omega 3 supplements to my daily regimen.
There are 2 other supplements that I intend to add to my daily vitamins after I observe any differences I note with the current additions.

For anyone with an interest in Health, Education, and Quality of Life, I highly recommend this e-book.

This book was recommended by my primary care physician. I found it to be a very easy read -- the narrative style is relaxed and conversational in style. Much of the information in the book was not new, but it's presented in a nice, organized fashion and is a good reminder of what, and how, to eat properly. I enjoyed picking up the book to read the next chapter and have put some of the recommendations into play already.

It very lightly covered COQ10 and I couldn't find much on DMAE, and nothing on alpha lipoic acid or quercetin. It sang the praises of statins but according to others, statins can be worrisome. I didn't find mention of celery for blood pressure reduction, but it is recognized as a valid treatment by many. Other natural supplements are great for ailments that aren't mentioned nor recognized by our medical industry. I was so amazed at the consensus of opinion about what a wonderful book this is, but I am into serious youth extension and alternative treatments.

My husband is a diabetic. He had a recent doctor's appt., and his doctor had talked about how he lost 35 pounds and it wasn't that hard . . . just basically a change of diet (healthy), along with advice via this book. Well, my husband was about 20 lbs. overweight, and complained that he was getting flabby, so he asked me to order this book. I did, and he would read a chapter or two at a time. He would ask me, "Did you know how good green tea is for you?" I would say "yes." Did you know that nuts from a tree are very good for you?? I would say, "yes." "Did you know that for every 100 calories in grains (cereals and breads, etc.), that you need to have 3 grams of fiber?" Yes. I have read Prevention magazine for years, and was always interested in health and medical topics, so those little tidbits of info were not new to me. ANyway, for a guy who NEVER reads anything except HUNTING magazines, I was amazed that he actually read this book. To keep his attention, it has to be written in an easy-to-read-and-understand style, or he would be tossing it out the door! He says it is very good, and he HAS INDEED changed his eating habits. He is definitely more knowledgeable!!! I would recommend it!

I bought this book after being advised to do so by my doctor. I had a heart scan to see if I had any plaque build-up around my heart. The scan showed that I had none! Anyhow, the doctor that started the facility that did my heart scan is the guy that wrote this book. It is good advice and advocates many of the same things as another of my favorite authors, Mark Sisson. Mr. Sisson wrote The Primal Blueprint and runs the website Mark's Daily Apple. The Forever Young Diet was a good addition to my library of books about healthy eating. I highly recommend it.
