The Nine Lives of Chloe King: The Fallen, The Stolen, and The Chosen Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 430 ratings

Chloe King is a seemingly normal girl. She goes to class (most of the time), fights with her mom, and crushes on a boy…or two. But around her sixteenth birthday, Chloe finds that perhaps she isn’t so normal after all. There’s the heightened night vision, the superfast reflexes—oh, and the claws.

As Chloe discovers who she is—and where she comes from—it is clear she is not alone. Someone is trying to get her. And they will stop at nothing until they do. Chloe has nine lives…but will nine be enough?

First released as a trilogy in 2004, this bind-up edition arrives just as the new ABC Family original series
The Nine Lives of Chloe King, based closely on the original novels, premieres in June 2011.

I was introduced to Chloe King on netflix. Late one night, with nothing on tv I went to netflix and saw an instant stream of the first season of the tv series. After only a few minutes of the first episode, I was hooked. I must have stayed up until 3am that morning watching as many episodes as I could. I did it again for several more nights and finally saw all episodes of season 1. I then went online to find out when season 2 was coming on only to devastatingly find out that there would be no season 2. They had chosen to discontinue the series! I was crushed. What would happen to Chloe? Who was going to help her mom? What about Brian? Would Alex recover? What about the Mai? As I'd been searching for info on season 2 I found out that it was based on a trilogy of books. YAY ME! I went to Amazon to see if they had them. They sure did. They had all the individual books separately but just when I was about to buy them, I saw this book that had all 3 included in one and so I bought this instead. As soon as it arrived, my son ended up having an early bedtime (more sleep is good for him) so that I could get started reading. Although the book series is much different from the tv series, it is actually better. It is much darker and more real than the teeny bopper sabrina the teenage witch type show that was being shown on tv. I devoured this book. It's the fastest that I've read anything since Harry Potter. A great plot, excellent relatable characters, just the right mix of action, thriller, suspense and comedy and love combined. All my questions and more were answered. I do hope that they someday do make a season 2 since it would be nice to know where that particular plot and story line ends.... once you read the book, you'll understand.... it is completely different in characterizations than the book.

The Nine Lives of Chloe King is about a teenage girl who learns she is a descendent of an ancient society made up of God - like beings. Specifically referred to as the Mai, this group of supernatural cat people are said to be the children of Sehkmet. Not only does Chloe discover that she isn't human she also learns that she is the Chosen One, a very special figure in her ancestral legacy. If this isn't overwhelming enough she finds herself at the top of the hit list for The Order of the Tenth Blade. As it turns out most humans aren't aware of the existence of the Mai but those who are aware are much less than enamored by them. Because of this Chloe is faced with danger around every corner she turns. Sometimes the danger is the eminenent threat of The Order of the Tenth Blade against her and sometimes the threat is the danger she herself poses against the human beings she has grown to love in her previously assumed human life.

In this edition the author has bound together the three books in the series and I must say I enjoyed being able to jump straight from one installment to the next. It is well known that this series has been adapted for television. The first season has just wound down on ABC. The TV series and the book series similarities end with the basic plot (explained above). It is true that many of the same characters are present but they have been interpreted a tad differtly. There are a few characters that you will only find in the book and likewise, the TV series. I felt the characters personalities were more individual in the book and in some ways more complex (contrary to many reviews I read before reading the book myself). Personally, I enjoyed the book/s more than the TV series. Having said that, I still enjoy the TV series and look forward to seeing more.

As a parent, teacher and a young adult writer I feel it necessary to raise a few red flags to parents in regards to recommending this book. First, the "F" word is used way more than is necessary. Second, there are several instances where the adult characters in the story allow and facilitate the consumption of alchohal by minors. Not including those exceptions, I felt the book was written with the young adult reader in mind.

My overall impression of The Nine Lives of Chloe King was outstanding. It was engaging and creatively unique and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I give the Nine Lives of Chloe King 5 stars!

As a background, I bought this book only because I watched the series this book is based on over the summer and was disappointed it got cancelled. I thought the book may take the story further than the show did, and I was desperate to see, as it ended so abruptly. In the end, I pretty much got what I was looking for. With a few surprises along the way.

For pure entertainment value, this is a good book. It's an entertaining story, clever, and I enjoyed reading it. The basic premise is the same, but the storyline varies, in some cases drastically.

However, I have to say, without spoilers, it differs quite a bit from the show. Chloe is not really the more wholesome image the character on TV is portrayed as. I may be old fashioned (or just plain old in my late 20s) but I could not believe some of the stuff that was being said and done by a 15-year-old character. I am not sure the age range on the book, but I'd warn against buying it for a younger girl (8-12 age range) and thinking "oh the show was so cute, Chloe was such a good girl." The book really doesn't read that way and some of the material may be inappropriate.

Overall, I was happy I bought it and got to see the true story of Chloe as it was first written to be. And I would encourage fans of the show to do the same. Just so long as they aren't too young for it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and upon finishing, I wanted more. This was a quick read and definitely didn't drag on. I saw it was also sold as three stand alone books. This, I think, would have been bit more difficult to follow since at the ending of each section (book) things aren't resolved. Over the two days I spent reading it, I was glued to the pages. If I hadn't been so busy, I think - due to it being a complete 'page turner' I would have finished it in a singe day, it was so exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the genre. I believe the target reader group for this novel is probably adolescent girls; but as someone who is not remotely related to that group, I can definitely say that this book still is an extremely exciting and enjoyable read for other age groups, men and women alike. I definitely recommend the book!
