About the Author

Angela Mabray first happened upon polymer clay in a toy store. While she quickly realized it wasn't just for kids, she still feels a childlike joy each time she finds something new to do with polymer clay. Angela lives with her husband and son in Oklahoma, where she co-founded the Central Oklahoma Polymer Clay Guild. She is also a member of the International Polymer Clay Association. Her polymer clay projects have appeared in Polymer CAFE, on HGTV's That's Clever show, and on many blogs. She writes about polymer clay at craftygoat.com.

Kim Otterbein has had a love for beads all her life and still has a baggie of seed beads from the 1960s. Kim's training as a textile designer and painter seems to blend right in with jewelry making. Kim is the primary teacher for classes and workshops at the Bead House in Bristol, Rhode Island, sharing her wide range of knowledge and experience in beading, knotting, wire wrapping, and polymer clay. She is a certified instructor of Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and also a silversmith. She has had many projects and instructional articles published in various magazines, including

Great book in some ways, not in others

Great book in some ways, not in others
This book is excellent in many ways. Physically, it is attractive and easy to handle because it is smaller than 8 1/2" by 11" and is spiral bound. The book is full of beautiful photographs and comes with a very helpful CD. There is also a web site. However, the techniques one needs to learn are divided between the beginning of the book and the projects. If one could afford a lot of clay and other materials and do all of the projects, one would learn a lot. Each project is designed to introduce a new technique or two, and this does happen. However, if you can't do all the projects, you still will need to read through each one to pick out techniques you may want to use.If one is willing to read the whole book and then utilize just the techniques they want, then this book will work superbly for them. For example, I used the technique described in how to create a marbled clay decorated pen on page 58 to create some covers for my clay tools, although the book used a different technique in its project on page 51 to cover clay tools. So I got the idea to cover the tools from one project, but didn't exactly liked how they looked. When I came across the other project, I was able to adapt that method. I am not sure if this is what all beginners will want to do.If you are not new to polymer clay, you will still be able to enjoy this book and learn some new things. Don't let the "101" in the title dissuade you from purchasing this book.

You took everything that was wrong with all the other clay books and made sure you did not make the same mistakes. Your book is so well written and laid out. It is so easy to follow. I just love how you even gave the recipes for the colors. This is the first book I did not have to pull apart and bind. The spiral binding is great.

You chose such a wide variety of projects and made it so easy for a beginner through watching your DVD. What value. I guess if you charged too much more, people would not buy the book but the DVD alone is worth the price of the book. I am going to recommend this book to everyone I know. I know a few beginners and this will give them a great foundation. You have so many helpful hints.

I've been working with polymer clay for 12 years, but am about to start teaching again. I bought this book to review for my student's reading list. This is a super book for the serious beginner. It's not so basic that you would get bored quickly. The projects are very nice and well thought out. I love that it comes with a DVD and is spiral bound. Lots of great photography too. I don't think anyone will be disappointed with this book.

I am a very very beginner at this art/craft- I've been curious and this looked like a good place to start.

The photos and descriptions in this book are amazing; you can see every step of each project, and the written descriptions are thorough. The authors also give you ideas on how to use techniques after you finish the book projects. There is so much information here- not only information on how to make specific crafts, but basic comparisons of different kinds of clay and tools, and descriptions of WHY polymer clay acts the way it does in different circumstances.

I never knew how flexible polymer clay was as a craft medium- I've already made dozens of mosaic tiles and some "stone" word magnets. I'm excited to experiment more!

I am new to polymer clay and this is my first polymer clay book. This book covers from how to condition clay to making the basics of several clay concepts. I started using this book right away and it is very simple to follow and use. I find myself referencing this book after reading tutorials online or watching videos. I like to have it around for that purpose.

If you are a beginner like me, I highly recommend this book to learn from and reference later.

This book is a terrific source of knowledge, hints and techniques. A must have for anyone who works with polymer clay. Gives valuable information on most popular brands of clay. A book you will reference again and again. I feel like I have my own personal instructor available whenever I have a question. Get your own copy - this one is mine and I'm not giving it up!! Highly recommended!
My book arrived exactly when promised and in advertised condition. I would recommend this seller and will be purchasing from this seller in the future.

The very detailed instructions and pictures are just what I needed to learn the beginnings of the craft. Unfortunately the actual projects were rather uninspiring. I enjoy the format of the book and the spiral binding so I'll use it to learn but there's not a project in this book that I want to re-create.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy projects to inspire you. Great for beginners

Having done a one day intro workshop to polymer clay I wanted to have a go at home. This is a great book to get you started with simple projects that will teach you different processes and techniques. My copy is spiral bound whiwhich is great as it means it takes up less space on my worktable if I want tor ead-along as I work. Obviously, not all projects will appeal to everyone but its a good book for newbies to polymer clay. I had borrowed a copy from the library but decided there was so much in it that was useful it was worth buying a copy. You dont need to buy many tools for completing the projects but I would recomend getting an old pasta making machine ( from a charity shop if you can) to roll out your clay evenly and thinly.. much easier than rolling it manually.
Polymer clay is so versatile and this book will give you inspiration and the skill to progress. Look online / Pintrest at The London Polymer clay group blog for ideas once you know the basics.
