A WiFi, WTF thriller from the author of Candy. “Intelligent and fast-moving, cleverly shifts between comic-book thrills and touching realism.” —The New York Times Book Review

What can he do with his new powers—and what are they doing to him?

Before the attack, Tom Harvey was just an average teen. But a head-on collision with high technology has turned him into an actualized App. Fragments of a shattered iPhone are embedded in his brain. And they’re having an extraordinary effect on his every thought.

Because now Tom knows, sees, and can do more than any normal boy ever could. But with his new powers comes a choice: To avenge Lucy, the girl he loves, will he hunt down the vicious gangsters who hurt her? Will he take the law into his own electric hands and exterminate them from the South London housing projects where, by fear and violence, they rule?

Not even his mental search engine can predict the shocking outcome of iBoy’s actions.

“The classic superhero plot, at once cutting edge sci-fi and moral fable.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“Brooks is a master at revealing the unsteady fault line between good and evil.” —Booklist (starred review)

“Brilliant, harrowing, uplifting . . . with a passionate truth. If I were a producer, I’d option iBoy immediately. This is the big one. Bravo!” —The London Times

“Brooks delivers something that’s less a work of science fiction than a brutal rumination on vengeance, near-limitless power, and their effects on people, with believably flawed characters and a harsh setting that serve the story well.” —Publishers Weekly

We don't usually think of a superhero as a 16 year old generic boy who lives in an apartment complex of extremely aggressive gangs who did something horrible to his friend. What we don't expect the most is that the superpowers come from something that we use on a daily basis. This book really redefines the meaning of "superhero", altering the regular theme of superhero novels and movies. The one thing that this book can make you realize- is that the power of man and machine working together is heavily underestimated, just like the power of the iPhone.

P.S. This book has aggressive language, drug and alcohol reference, gore related violence and mature sexual topics (also gang related discrimination of race, gender and stereotype).

Reader Discretion can be Advised to some.

Great and unique super hero origin story that held me throughout the story. I love that it's not from the same old material, and that the hero in question has a power all his own that hasn't been done to death before. I also like the setting, which is London or somewhere around it. Great and realistic tale of a hero written on the scale of real life expectations. If you developed powers suddenly and tried to use them against someone else, it wouldn't go off without a hitch. You would make mistakes, perhaps use too much force, and later question your actions (even feel great regret over what you'd done or almost done). I love iBoy and I think others will too.

I have now read five or six novels by Kevin Brooks an I don't regret any at all, I might even call him my favorite author. I really like his style of writing and this novel in particular really sparked my interest. It might just be me but it usually takes me more than a couple of chapters to actually get into a book, but with this one I was hooked from the start. Just the idea of a boy with particles of an iPhone in his brain. It amazed me an I wanted to see what Kevin Brooks would make of it. It was a real page turner and I couldn't put it down. I recommend this to anyone with an imagination waiting to be inspired.

really enjoyed this book. Very gritty for a YA book but it draws you in! If I have one complaint its that it is a stand alone book. Would have liked to have seen where these characters go in the future

I bought this book for a book group I am in with my son (12 years old). The parents were a bit concerned with some of the very adult topics (rape, violence, drugs) in this book, but we felt that there was nothing that our kids wouldn't not have been aware of through news or other sources in their lives. We read the book and the tough topics were not presented in a salacious manner but rather in a realistic but censored way. The one complaint from the book group was the ending didn't have meaningful solution to it. I would recommend it for readers 12 and above IF there is a sense of maturity.

This book inspires the eep parts of the reader that want to be the heroes that save the day and get the girl. It's just a little sad that now he has to live with the iPhone in his head for the rest of his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars 📝💖💖💙💚LE SUPER-HEROS DE CROW LANE : un roman original à découvrir !
Reviewed in France on February 5, 2014

A LIRE !
