Waiting for Dawn: A Team Hope Novella Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 450 ratings

In this prequel to Flee the Night—the first book in Susan May Warren’s critically acclaimed Team Hope series—Lacey Galloway leads a rather predictable life as a contractor for the Department of Defense. But news that Sergeant First Class Jim Micah is missing in action leads her on a dangerous trek overseas to rescue the man who secretly captured her heart.

Although her DOD connections quickly cut through the red tape, she also enlists the help of her ex-boyfriend and Micah’s best friend, Lieutenant John Montgomery. As they hatch a covert plan to find and rescue Micah, Lacey’s feelings are once again torn between the two men.

Filled with romance and adventure, this twisty tale will hold you captive to the very last page.

Although I attended the U of Minnesota, I’m a woodsy girl at heart. Or maybe I’m an adventurer—having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia, Russia as a missionary for eight years. That’s why my characters seem to get into one scrape after another—they’re too much like me! I love God, my family, my country, my church, and feel privileged every day to be able to write stories.

And my 'official' bio:

With nearly 2 million books sold, critically acclaimed novelist Susan May Warren is the Christy, RITA, and Carol award-winning author of over ninety novels. Known for her compelling plots and unforgettable characters, Susan has penned contemporary and historical romances, romantic suspense, thrillers, rom-coms, and Christmas novellas. With books translated into eight languages, she's a USA Today, ECPA and CBA bestseller, and has received numerous starred Publisher Weekly reviews. Library Journal says, "Warren’s characters are well-developed and she knows how to create a first rate contemporary romance.”

Susan is a nationally acclaimed writing coach, and winner of the 2009 American Christian Fiction Writers Mentor of the Year. She is the founder of Novel.Academy, author of the popular writing method, The Story Equation, and a founding partner of Sunrise Media Group.

Waiting for Dawn is the prequel to Flee the Night, Book 1 in the Team Hope series. I zipped through this novella by Warren. It definitely left me eager to read Flee the Night. Warren has created characters that come to life and a story that will keep the pages turning! Obviously this book is just a very short taste of what is to come in Book 1 but I found that it was just enough back ground story to get you intrigued and of course an ending that really is only the beginning! 4 1/2 Stars

Waiting for the Dawn is a great introduction to the Team Hope series. This very short, suspenseful novella gives the backstory for the three main characters in the first book of the series Flee the Night. Just the right blend of adventure, romance, and faith to keep my interest and entice me to want to continue the series.

    Susan,
Thank you for this novella. It answered some of my questions, yet had me asking, why can't people communicate? I had read the other three books in this series before I found the Novella. You have the God given ability to pull a person into that world. I know this is fiction but you have the ability to make a person feel what the characters might be feeling. I actually was in tears at the end.Keep up the great work. May God continue to inspire and bless you.

It's been awhile since I read Ms. Warren's Team Hope series, and then I found this novella hidden in some obscure part of my kindle--unread. Ms. Warren is one of my favorite adventure and romance authors so I had to catch up on a book, um, novella, that somehow I missed.

Even back in 2011 Ms. Warren wrote brilliantly with characters that are real, and ones you care for. Now I do remember that the Team Hope series was one of my least favorite series of Warrens (though I can't remember why, and this urges me to pull my copies of those books out of the bookcase and find out the rest of the story, because yes, Lacey goes in to rescue Micah and his team, but there isn't a satisfactory ending in this novella, mainly because it's the prequel and basically the beginning chapters of a series that weren't included in the books.

If you are catching up on Ms. Warren's books and the Team Hope series are on your to-read pile, then read this novella first. It can be read in an hour or two and you'll know the beginning. Plenty of action, lots of adventure, and my heart broke for Micah. A real hero.

I got a copy of this novella from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

An unexpected story of love and war. Makes me wish there was more to this story. And this is probably a teaser to a complete book. Liked the story, just surprised by the story line.

It as an exciting, tangle of lives and events. It was bathed in God’s Word. It had intrigue and romance and suspense. Then, POOF! It ended. I didn’t realize this was just a peek into the story, so I was left thinking, “No way! This can’t be the end.” Looking for the next book, now...

Loved this prequel. I enjoyed goibg back and reading about the characters I loved in the series. I went back and reread the series after reading this book. Great story. I feel like these characters are my friends. 😊

This is the first book in this series that I’ve read. It pulled me into the story right away. I couldn’t put it down. I loved that the heroine was tough and smart, not some damsel-in-distress. I definitely want to go on and read the rest of the series now. This book definitely left me wanting to read more of the story.

Good as far as it went - but it didn't go nearly far enough. A well-written story, but fairly incomplete unless you intend to follow it with at least the first book in the Team Hope series. Could have been better if it had been fleshed out more.
