Fatal Secrets (Point Horror Book 24) Kindle Edition
Two sisters walk through a snowy wood, collecting pinecones for Christmas decorations. Something has frightened Marisa, and she’s about to explain it to Ryan, her younger sister, when she steps onto a patch of thin ice. Marisa plummets into the frigid water below, and though Ryan tries to save her, there’s nothing she can do. Even though the accident wasn’t her fault, Ryan is consumed by guilt. But guilt is not what she should be afraid of. Three weeks after Marisa’s death, Ryan sees her everywhere. At night she feels something following her, but when she turns around there’s nothing there. A creepy college friend of Marisa’s shows up at Ryan’s house, and her mother asks him to stay through Christmas. To free herself of guilt, Ryan must unlock Marisa’s terrible secret—before death takes her too. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Richie Tankersley Cusick including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

About the author
For three decades, Richie Tankersley Cusick (b. 1952) has been one of the most prominent authors of horror fiction for young adults. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana—home to some of the country’s most ancient ghosts—Cusick grew up in a small bayou town called Barataria. Inspired by the eerie Louisiana swampland, she began writing at a young age. After college, Cusick took a job at Hallmark and moved to a haunted house in Kansas City, where she began work on her first novel, Evil on the Bayou, whose success allowed her to leave her job and begin writing fulltime. Since then, Cusick has written more than two dozen novels. She and her dog live in North Carolina, where Cusick writes on an antique roll-top desk that was once owned by a funeral director. The desk is, of course, haunted.

Really fun read and made me feel like a kid again.
The ending suprised me, did not see it coming at all.
So far I love all her books I've read

The plot is fast-paced and kept me turning the page as I did genuinely want to find out what was going on. While I did feel that more focus could have been made on the investigation (Ryan basically forgets about her sister's undeveloped photographs until the climax), the story was well-written and atmospheric, doing a great job of presenting the fragile mental states of both Ryan and her mother.
While the ending twist was a bit mundane, I will admit that I was surprised by how deep the conspiracy went this time. While I had figured out parts of it, I was impressed by how many little insignificant details from earlier in the tale wound up being incredibly relevant to Melissa's death. The novel ended well, nicely wrapping up the loose ends in a surprisingly optimistic note.
My biggest problem with this novel was the characters. As with Teacher's Pet, Ryan is ultimately a bit of a Mary Sue. She's the quiet girl who everyone seems to love, managing to attract two admirers over the course of the story, one of whom only spoke to her twice. The willingness by which Ryan's mother invited Charles into their home also felt week. What kind of person would let a complete stranger live with them over the holidays, just because he claimed to know her deceased daughter?
All in all, I actually did rather enjoy this one. I would certainly recommend it.
