- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2012Josie and Michael were childhood sweethearts. They became engaged, but when Josie got a special offer she gave Michael back the ring and...ran away!
Now she's back. What sent her back exactly is a mystery to Michael, but Michael had more important things to worry about. Ever since his cousin had become pregnant, he had been a father to the baby. But now that his cousin is dead, the child's father wanted to be a part of his dauther's life, and Michael would fight heaven and earth to get custody of his daughter!!!
That's where Josie comes into the picture. Michael and Josie decide to pretend to be engaged until the judge awards Michael custody. Then, like before, they'd have a great big fight and split. Josie would go back to London, and Michael would raise his newly adopted daughter.
But as the 'pretend' to be engaged, they feel attraction to each other. Is this attraction memories, or is the love they once had for each other still there? Since both of them is determined to keep their growing feelings to themselves, what will ever get them together?
Okay, this was a really sweet story. I loved the wedding dress scene and the irony of it all. But I struggled with the whole fake engagement thing. I heard once that when trying to decide who would be best to raise a child, the most stable person is chose. This could be a single person or a married person, but not usually an engaged couple. I think it would have been better if they had not been engaged, and was quite surprised at the outcome.
Who is best to raise this child? I see both viewpoints. Since my son was also abandoned by his father before he was born, I must say that if a man came into my life and loved my son, I'd do anything on earth to make sure he gained custody. Yet Eddie seemed to have come to terms with his past. He's married and adopted his two children. He IS the biological father.
After weighing this issue, I've decided the judge did make the correct decision on this case. It was a tough one to make, but either way I believe the person not getting custody deserved liberal visitation rights. I'm happy with the outcome.
