Hot Under Pressure (Recipe for Love Book 6) Kindle Edition
Hot Under Pressure
Louisa Edwards
Prepare to turn up the heat with the final book in the sizzling "Rising Star Chef" trilogy from romance author Louisa Edwards.
Henry Beck thought he'd already faced the toughest kitchen challenge of his life. After all, what could top sweating it out as a Navy cook on a submarine? But when he learns his competition for the title of Rising Star Chef is the sweet hippie girl he married…and left…ten years ago, the heat is on.
Now Beck and Skye Gladwell are going head to head in the finals…and sparking up old flames every time they touch. But Skye wants more than a win over the man who abandoned her when she needed him most—she wants a divorce! Then her sexy almost-ex makes a deliciously dangerous proposition. He'll give in to her demands, but if his team wins the RSC, he has a demand of his own…one last taste of the only woman he ever loved.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2012I'm a huge Edwards fan and have read all of her books. So I was very excited to read Hot Under Pressure. I swear, she keeps getting better with every book. What makes this one stand out for me from the rest of the series is that I felt she really got very deep in the relationship between Beck and Skye while still keeping all the fun cooking competition in it. There is so much going on between Beck and Skye and you get drawn into their lives. I also love that Skye is a real woman both in the physical sense and her emotional presence. And Beck is wow. Is it just me or did he get even hotter this book than he was before?? The ending is truly a work of genius. I adored Beck and going with him on his emotional journey was worth every page. What a love story! I was literally crying on the elliptical machine while reading it. The book was so good, I didn't even mind getting in my workout. I think Edwards can do anything she puts her mind to, the sky is the limit for her. I can't wait to read what is next. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who loves contemporary romance and those who love all things culinary. I only wish I could give it SIX STARS instead of five.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2013I don't know that Hot Under Pressure is quite worth 5 stars, but since I gave Too Hot to Touch 4 stars and Some Like It Hot 3, and this was definitely the best in the series, it seemed only right to give it 5. As far as the cooking competition that has been the backdrop of the series, the outcome is pretty much expected - nothing riveting or surprising there. I did, though, find Skye and Beck to be the most believable couple of the series and I genuinely liked them as people and was happy to see them come back together. I felt like their's was a real romance and didn't leave me feeling like I was reading about a bunch of high schoolers (like I did in the first two series). While you get a little background info, obviously, on this couple from the other books in the series, it's not so much that you need to read them to enjoy this book. I'd say save your money, skip the first two and just read this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2012"This dish is all about opposites attracting, " Beck said. "A Good pairing, to me, isn't about putting the obvious things together. It's about finding two flavors that bring out the best in each other-maybe bring out elements in each other that don't exist when those flavors are on their own."
If you don't think your face will be a fountain of tears while reading this book, you are VERY WRONG!!
Warning: Tissues are required
I have been waiting to read more about Henry Beck since book one, when he was just known as "Beck". I FINALLY got all I wanted and SO MUCH MORE!!
If you have been keeping up with the Rising Star series by Louisa Edwards, you already know from book two that Beck's team, the East Coast team from Lunden's Tavern, has been picked as one of the last three teams along with the West Coast team from Queenie Pie, which is owned by Skye Gladwell, who just happens to be Beck's Ex-Wife, or not so EX, since they are officially still married. But not for long, if Skye has anything to say about it. Unfortunately, Beck isn't giving up as easily as he did the first time, he has a proposition of his own, but will Skye give Beck another chance to break her heart?
One of the things I adore most about Louisa's books, especially the Rising Star Series is that we get so much of the reality of life for them. She takes us into the kitchen and has a way of describing the cooking style, the food creation that makes you feel as if you have been transported right into the kitchen with Beck and Skye.
"Can't fool me," Beck said, the words sounding bitten off and odd. "You just want to get close to this hot bod."
A wave of amusement briefly overwhelmed the concern rising in her chest. "You caught me, " she said, proving he wasn't the only one who could do deadpan. "Let's throw our clothes off and get down, oh baby, oh baby. Because what could be sexier than pretending we've both been buried alive in a cozy two-person coffin with no view?"
This is just one example of the back and forth banter we get between Beck and Skye. The emotion between these two is still so alive after all the years they had been apart. The anger, the pain and everything else mixed in makes this book a crazy, emotional roller coaster of a relationship that you can't help but want them to find a way to be together again. I'm a sucker for a love story where the hero and heroine have a lot of baggage between them, and we get that with the final book of the Rising Star Series.
Not only do we get our Skye/Beck romance, but we get more Kane and Claire, which I LOVED!! I was thrilled that some of my questions about these two had been answered, and they will always be two of my favorite characters in this series. And Win....he really stepped up when it came to being a friend to Beck and having his back. You can't help but LOVE Win and his cheerful nature, but when it comes to being serious, he is right there, helping Beck share his life with everyone.....OH....I Love Win!!
And yes ladies....we FINALLY find out about Henry Beck....and yes....you will just be more and more in love with him than you were in the last two books....Oh boy!!
So my recommendations is to READ THIS BOOK, especially if you have read the complete series, and if you haven't read the complete series, then you need to, especially Some Like It Hot, which is my FAVORITE of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2012Louisa Edwards saved the best for last in this amazing "Hot" Rising Star Chef trilogy. Henry Beck and Skye Gladwell are perfect together - absolutely sizzling with chemistry and full of emotion. This is the best kind of reunion romance, when you can still feel the love they never quite buried and get a glimpse into the history that brought them together and tore them apart. And speaking of being torn apart, get ready to cry your ever-lovin' eyes out. This story is an emotional rollercoaster and I absolutely loved the ride. Ms. Edwards writes with so much depth and paints such a vivid picture with every word. The characters pop, the pace is perfect, and this could be my favorite romance of the year so far. Wow. What's next?
