I purchased three copies of this book. Once my sons and wife scanned through my copy, they wanted their own. Lots of great information. I keep a copy in my gym bag. It is my workout manual. Whether you are overweight or not, you need this book.

The goal of the author for writing this book is to help the reader become more physically fit. This is not a hyped up "Lose a bazillion pounds in minutes!" type of book, this one contains real world, practical steps that anyone, at any fitness level can implement. It's not just another weight loss book - it's so much more - it's about health and fitness.

Each chapter of the book covers one week's worth of fitness routines, meal plan, and real-life case studies of some of the author's clients. The fitness routines are broken down into five individual components designed to work together and provide a complete quality of life fitness package:

    1. Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CFR)
    2. Muscular Strength and Endurance
    3. Flexibility
    4. Nutrition and Body Composition
    5. Balance and Proprioception

The exercise principles presented throughout each chapter cover:
    1. Consistency
    2. Intensity
    3. Duration
    4. Progressive Overload

Each weekly format consists of real-life case studies covering common exercise problems and how his client was able to overcome them, nutrition basics and specific meal plans, cardio plan, circuit training program and a stretching guide. All designed to help the reader to achieve a greater level of physical fitness. The only equipment required is a heart rate monitor, a set of dumbbells, a medicine ball and cardiovascular equipment such as a treadmill, upright bike, elliptical machine, or you can choose to walk or jog instead.

Now, if like me, you are particularly worried about following this book and making it through in just 6 weeks, don't be. The author tells the reader right in the introduction that if any one week is too challenging, just repeat it the following week, before moving on. See, no pressure, if you aren't in the best shape ever, this book is still accessible and useful for you.

The book feels like I had my own personal trainer walking me step by step through all areas that need to be covered, throughout the book. The author definitely knows his business and he knows it well. Since the author is a real world fitness trainer, he gives great advice on how you can live a healthier life. With very easy to follow explanations of fitness routines & recipes that you can try out, he makes it seem easily do-able.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free through the Publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255

The author of Get Skinny! Scott Schmaltz is a veteran of the fitness industry, an enthusiastic and upbeat personal trainer with seven certifications in personal training and rehabilitation, and over ten years of experience helping people to improve their lives. His background includes managing personal training departments and corporate wellness programs for some well-known companies such as Gold's Gym, Snap Fitness and Health Partners Insurance. He is also a graduate of GCNM, a certified Nutritional Consultant and Holistic Health Practitioner, offering a great combination of health and fitness knowledge and skills not often found in personal trainers.

Scott combines his personal life experience with nutrition and fitness knowledge together in a creative, easy to read book. Get Skinny provides a six-week body challenge that includes varied workouts with photos to guide readers through performing the exercises correctly to achieve the full benefits of the training, nutritional advice, and meal plans to help readers stay on track to reach their fitness goals easily.

Personal testimonials and inspiring guidance fill each of the six chapters. Each chapter provides the weekly workout plan with graduating challenges and intensity, nutritional advice and support to help you succeed. People that work with a professional personal fitness coach like Scott are more than twice as likely to achieve success in overcoming weight issues, become fit and healthy and sustain the changes they made over time.

Chapter 1 discusses finding your inner strength to get moving and get skinny. Chapter 2 introduces the most important coaching concept of them all, that of truly committing to change, being ready to take responsibility for your choices, an essential first step in successfully taking on any fitness plan. Chapter 3 discusses overcoming cravings for comfort foods, those carbs that can accumulate as body fat if not burned off by activity, and understanding how to resist those cravings for foods that may not be in your best interest to indulge in. Chapter 4 "The Frog Prince" helps you claim your true self through health and fitness. You will be motivated to change your thoughts and behaviors to get fit and be happy with yourself and your life. Chapter 5 provides insight into the power of our self-image and the inner strength we can discover by challenging ourselves to accomplish what we may not have thought we could. Chapter 6 is about moving forward, the final workout phase, realizing that sense of satisfaction and increased confidence, and looking great!

Scott is very active on social media, and a highly motivated and energetic personal trainer. I am sure a second book will be forthcoming and look forward to seeing Scott achieve his goals of helping you attain yours.
