Mystery and suspense always claimed a place in Stone’s novels because danger and enforced proximity lend an edge and conflict to a relationship! Everyone loves a protective hero. However, often it’s the heroine who saves the hero’s bacon in her books! Strong women and warrior type guys abound in her family, so she finds plenty of inspiration for the attitudes of the characters.

Stone’s genre has changed with the latest novel, The Mayhurst Murder. This one is a mystery written as L. J. Stone. If you want a steamy romance with a dash of danger, choose one she has written as Lyn Stone. Her books are available on Amazon.com and other online book stores.

Stone began a writing career with a mystery/romance, The Wicked Truth, in 1997 and has since written over thirty traditionally published novels and novellas. These books have been translated into sixteen languages for readers around the globe and she is a winner of the coveted Maggie Award for Romantic Suspense presented by the Georgia Romance Writers.

A few former occupations include draftsman, illustrator, historical painter and portraitist. Art is now relegated to a hobby because “writing is such fun.” Stone is a native of Georgia, lived in Texas and Germany, traveled across the U.S.A. and most of Europe and currently resides in Alabama.

I love this book.

Here is a quicky list of the good points of this story:
- strong heroine who is still sweet and lovable (no stupid stunts or over the top behavior)
- strong hero who is honorable, and very likable (intelligent, admits when he is wrong, doesn't go all uber-alpha)
- satisfyingly evil villian
- action that is believable and keeps the story going without being too much
- a romantic relationship that is satisfying and just adorable
- well written sex scenes
- good writing all around
- story is told from both hero and heroine's poitns of view

I really don't have any negatives. This is a great story. Go on, buy it.

this was a typical regency romance... but enjoyed the different take on the 'wallflower'... altho as in all of these romances the heroine manages to morph in to beautiful with the right food, home environment and love... would it were so easy.... anyway... its' a good read and I woudl recommend it...

Here is a story where the heroine is strong, smart, and everything a man could want. Here is the story of a hero who saves and helps that heroine flourish. Here is a story of great friends and bravery along with a very treacherous villain. In other words, here is a wonderful book.

It is not that I dislike the story - or I had not bought the book but oh boy it is such a very, very long story. It starts out great but goes downhill from there. What I miss is a thorough research from the author of the time the story is taking place, 1815, I think. The characters blunder round and round. Why do they not engage a Runner? Why does Lady Grace saw her clothes herself instead of sending for a modiste - London is only a few miles away? What about fashion plates? How is the War Office involved? I am not sure under which office spies belong but should it not be the Foreign Office? And how can the workers carry out their daily work and still take on night shifts? And finally, why did they not contact Lady Grace's man of business. Surely it must have been the same man her father had and since Lady Grace kept her father's account books - as I remember it - she must have known who it was.
Altogether far too many hows and whys in this book for my liking.

Rather than summarize the plot which has a number of twists, I'll just say this: I couldn't find a lull in the story to put it down. Until 3 am. Damn you, Lyn Stone whoever you are.

I enjoyed the dialogue, there was crackling chemistry and the author doled out goodies about H/h and plot at a pace that made it very inconvenient for sleep. I particularly appreciated how the heroine's full character was revealed over time and she was a ball buster, literally. Feisty gals are so much fun. The captain's feelings also develop over the course of the story and in reaction to her. I think he wasn't quite as developed as she was but still a likable, handsome hero with appealing vulnerability. Best of all, the author managed to keep the suspense going, her dialogue and narrative kept a number of possible villains in the picture for an unsettling undercurrent. Even the Captain's best friend had a few ambiguous moments that kept me wondering and awake. Damn you, Lyn Stone. Did I mention it was 3 am when I finally couldn't hold the kindle up?

There was a bit too much 'wedding as emotional football.' Will they, won't they, should he, should she and what constituted acceptable emotions to justify going through with it or not. So the threat plot was stronger for me than the wedding/consummation of the romance and since this was a romance not a mystery, I give it a happy, tired 4 stars. I found this a romantic story that was difficult to put down in the middle.

If I could give this book more stars, I would. I LOVE Grace! The characters are absolutely perfect - Grace is a real ball buster and it was a fabulous reprieve from the normal romances. If you pick up this book, be sure you have time to finish it because it'll pull you in and you will NOT be able to stop. Fabulous story. Must read.

Oh, how I love the beasts. The men, large and forbidding, who think themselves awful because of some scars that are never so awful. I also love the girl who is actually quite accomplished and beautiful, but who is being slowly starved by her uncle. He has reasons...you'll see. He gets upset with himself for sticking her with his oh-so-unlovely self, but of course they fall in love. The how is complicated, but worth reading.

I'm pretty disappointed in this one. From the blurb I was expecting some wrenching stuff these two would be overcoming. Boy was I wrong. Grace is something of a McGuyver, managing to fix absolutely everything in everyone's life because she is just so wonderful. Yeah, she might not be pretty, but she's got loads of self-confidence - nothing to overcome. Everyone just loves her.

Caine, once he gets his girl in Grace, seems to have completely forgotten about how scarred up he is. They barely even spend the first half of the book with each other, bonding or learning about each other. There aren't any personal issues for them to build a romance off of. Instead we have this constant outter plot of someone trying to kill her or him. They solve one mystery and one of them gets injured in between. Then it starts over. They argue half-heartedly about whether they are getting married out of gratitude or pity. Oh, no! Can't get married yet because of some contrived reason, so it takes until near the end of the darned book for the wedding to take place and then it's to trap the killer.

There was no romantic conflict here. None. Every character seemed flat and one dimentional. I couldn't sympathize with these people and really didn't care what happened to them. Yet I finished the book...
