True story: Several days after moving to a new flat in Budapest, Reka's and my upstairs neighbor, a lovely 80-year-old woman, leaned out of her window, smiled, and called to me: "Pussy! Pussy! Pussy!" Momentarily taken aback at the thought of what she might be offering, I suddenly realized she was saying "Puszi!" the Hungarian word for "kiss," pronounced the same way. Breathing a sign of relief, I shakily waved back, relieved that I wasn't going to be chased around the house Benny Hill style by an aging paramour. And I immediately knew I needed a better knowledge of Hungarian, and so do you, because you never know when you'll be in Budapest, and when an attractive suitor purrs: "Mindig ilyen szexis vagy?" you'll really want to know what he or she is saying.

This book is great, and the phrases are authentic. Wow, are they authentic. I ran some of them by my Hungarian friends, and they said, yep, that's how we say that. Waiting at a tram stop in Budapest, I heard one teen-aged girl say to another, "Baszd meg," (look it up!) in casual conversation, so, yes, these are genuine expressions. Some of them are more interesting than things we Americans say, such as "Don't let me hear anything good about you!" instead of "See you later, alligator!" It's worth buying for phrases like that alone.

As an Hungarian American who travels to Hungary regularly, I thought this would be a laugh so I bought it for my Kindle.
It is, in fact, a blast of a book, even if you don't know any Hungarian at all. If you do- it is hysterical, I had never heard of some
of the phrases or terms. I ended up buying a hard copy for my family to enjoy at get-togethers. Worth the laugh!

Sometimes the English phrases in this book are more vulgar or way more descriptive than the given Hungarian translations. If you can speak Hungarian at an intermediate or advanced level then it's great

This book is an absolute hoot; extremely dirty, yes, but also has a lot of useful and fun phrases that will work in plenty of situations outside the bedroom. I have already mastered several that come in handy when dealing with tiresome co-workers, particularly "az osszes munkatarsam komplett idiota." For most other situations when I am extremely annoyed, "kurva szar!" is my new favorite phrase.

I surprised how good this book is it.

The title emphasizes obscenities, which are here, but it's mostly the slang and you need to know how to speak Hungarian as it's spoken. The intro on e.g. Pronunciation is the best I've found without sound recordings. I'm learning in preparation for retiring to BP with my Hungarian wife, and this is my favorite resource. To me the slangy envelope wrapping the lessons is very entertaining and helps the learning. I recommend!

Bought this for a bday present for my bf and he's having a blast dropping some slang on my mom.
Learning a language is hard, but at least this makes it fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Hungarian myself and learned a lot!

I laughed out loud quite a few times while reading this as well.

Good job explaining Hungarian grammar at a bare bones level. You made it easy enough to remember and apply with a little practise.

A modern look at the more popular slang being slung around is why you buy this book however!

This book along with any Lonely Planet Hungarian phrasebook should be all one needs to get by on business or vacation anywhere in Hungary.

It's really nice! Ez tényleg finom könyv! In a language, if necessary, you must also know his vulgarities. Davvero consigliato.

Un livre intéressant et quasi complet. Sauf que pour la prononciation pour les débutant, ça peut devenir vite complexe. Je le recommande.
