About the Author

Elizabeth divides her time between her beach cottage and her scrupulously clean house in the hills of West Virginia. Ooops. That's fantasy Elizabeth. The real Elizabeth spends her days schlepping after her four boys (five if you count their father) and the assortment of pets they swore they'd take care of. She does live in West Virginia; the house is clean when the mother-in-law visits; and she does have serious dreams of living at the beach. Elizabeth is a Marshall University graduate with a degree in counseling. This has proven very beneficial when dealing with the make-believe friends she hangs out with all day (she calls this 'writing'). Follow her blog at: http: //www.eseckman.blogspot.com

Elizabeth spends her time daydreaming (she calls this writing) and working at her job in prevention services. She is the mother of four well-behaved young men and wife to their ornery, rotten father. The male dominance in the Seckman House has been weakened with the inclusion of one amazing daughter-in-law.

A dog and two cats round out the family.

A graduate of Marshall University, she lives in a small town on the Ohio River in West Virginia, but dreams of owning a beach house...or at least having a magically clean house.

I have to say, it's been a while since I enjoyed characters in a book like Jenna and Tres. I got so into their story that at times I wanted to slap Jenna silly. To say she's headstrong is an understatement. And Tres? He's your typical macho guy, but I loved that about him. The dialogue in this story is fresh and completely real. I thought I had the plot figured out too, but Elizabeth took me on a winding twisting path that I didn't expect. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the other two books in the series. Thanks for a truly enjoyable read.

A bit of both. The typical romance genre novel has never been my interest, although I like a good romance in good literature.
Here, I admire the good grammar and author's effort to write a high class romantic novel. It is sometimes laborious and at times I felt bludgeoned by the repetition, but I think it deserves a 4Star for the obvious passion the author conveys to her work.
For lovers of the romance genre, this is a step up.

One of the things I loved about “Past Due” is that it was chock-full of twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. I kept turning page after page desperate to see what was going to happen next. Although I knew it would have a happy ending (it is a romance after all), the tension and misunderstandings between the main characters were so skillfully written that there were times I feared that they weren't going to live happily after. Spoiler alert: they do.

I also really enjoyed the fact that this wasn't your ordinary “handsome guy comes to the rescue of a helpless girl” story. Instead, we're presented with a woman who is strong, independent, and self-reliant and who wants to be accepted as an equal, not as someone to be taken care of.

If you like romances with realistic, relatable characters battling with their own personal flaws and histories and a plot that defies some of the stereotypes associated with the romance genre, then you'll enjoy “Past Due.”

I agree with some of the previous reviews that Elizabeth Seckman did a good job with this book. Her writing is pleasant, fluid and funny at times. "Past Due" tells the story of a single mom Jenna stuck in a small coastal North Carolina town who is confronted with the return of her first love Tres. She of course has a secret from all those years ago. Seckman did an adequate job of creating a web of family drama and twists within the plot line. I would have liked to see a tighter weave of these dramatic elements and maybe a bit more of the unpredictable. Overall she writes a solid cast of characters and my critiques here are I felt like there were some characters that should have been more developed like her father who was mentioned throughout the book but we only see him in the last quarter of the story. I thought his character should have been better written here or not shown up at all. At times Seckman's story lagged because it became a bit taxing to continually go round and round with Jenna's dead sister and husband who seemed to be the cause of all the strife in her world. Once again the author needed to write these characters in a different way such as introduce a flashback where they actually came to life instead of them remaining two dimensional and only talked about by everyone else. This aspect of Past Due really held it back for me and kept it from being a wholely solid effort. I gave it three stars because I liked Seckman's writing and I thought the book was worth a read but needed to dig a little deeper than surface plot lines and fully develop the characters who were a larger part of this story.

I want to say that I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I found a new author to add to my FAVORITE AUTHOR list! Past Due was a well thought out and planned story. From the first paragraph the characters, especially Jenna, reach out their hands to the readers, pulling them into their world. I love books and characters that have been written in a realistic setting. Don't get me wrong I love my paranormal book and characters with supernatural abilites, but there is something refreshing about being able to relate to the characters that you hold in your hand. I was impressed by Elizabeth Seckman's writting, it was smooth and never failed to hold my attention.

Jenna is a widow and doing her best to raise her teenage son. As a single mother, she finds that providing for her child is a tough job that often leaves her sleep deprived. Money is tight and when her car breaks down she looks for ways to take care of this financial burden without asking her friends for handouts. While meeting with her next client, she finds herself working closely with an old friend...not just any friend, but the one person she never wanted to have to face again.

When Tres comes into town to take care of business he runs into the one woman that he thought he may never see agian, Jenna. Tres and Jenna once shared something wonderful, they had been in love, but lies and deception tore them apart and they have both lived with this heartache for far too long.

I highly recommend Past Due by Elizabeth Seckman, though I suggest keeping a box of tissues close by.
