The Money Kill (Karin Schaeffer Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 60 ratings

Nominated for the 2014 Mary Higgins Clark and RT Reviewers Choice awards

Former New York City police detectives-turned-Brooklyn private investigators Karin Schaeffer and her husband Mac survived when brutal terror invaded their lives more than once. Now the offer of thirty thousand dollars for one day's work in London, followed by a family vacation in an exotic locale, seems too good to be true. And then they discover that it is.

Putting Mac's investigations into the alleged marital infidelities of billionaire Godfrey Millerhausen on hold, the family finds paradise in the sun-drenched Mediterranean island of Sardinia. But the holiday turns dark and terrible when the children vanish. Suddenly Karin and Mac must unravel a deadly web first spun when wronged wife Cathy Millerhausen walked into their world--as they discover firsthand the true evil of big money: how far it reaches, what it buys . . . who it kills.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This high-stakes suspense novel boasts fast-paced action and intriguing characters. The tension increases as the truthfulness of more and more contacts comes into question, leaving the investigators with no one to trust. Lief illustrates the complexities of family life and societal inequalities with a deft hand."
--Roseann Marlett, RT Reviews, Top Pick

The plot was well concealed and it kept you interested all the way through. I love intrigue and this definitely had plenty of it.

Very disappointed as I love Katia Lief so I read Dead Rich first and loved it...then picked up Money Kill and found that it was exactly the same book........what's the matter with that....I paid for a duplicate book with a different name...no way to present yourself as a business.......very disappointed with your site.

I loved the first book of this series. However, each following book becomes more gory and less believable. I like the characters--mostly.

Okay, I've now read books three and four in this, so far, four-book series. This story is even more fascinating and absorbing than the one before, "Vanishing Girls." And you'll get to travel, from Brooklyn/New York to London to Sardinia, involving yourself in a story that at times leaves you breathless. With a growing family of characters who move from book to book, author Lief, with her really strong storytelling skills, takes her reader on, this time, a fascinating and sometimes terrifying trip. When there are children/kids involved, I think one forms an even stronger bond with them and their well-being. This time around, Karin's husband Mac, having opened his own private investigating business, takes on a client whose ties lead to a world of big money and a seeming disregard for the sanctity of life...and limb. Karin, not really one to be just a stay-at-home mom, can't help but become involved too. Once I started this story, I could not put it down, finishing it last night at midnight, then not sleeping well, for I was too worked up at story's end. Now I'm going back to the beginning, where Karin's earlier trauma will be fully explained; till now there have been brief and incomplete references to what, had I begun at the beginning, I'd already be fully aware of. Give Katia Lief a try. I can almost guarantee you you won't be satisfied with just having read one book; you'll want to read them all in this series and then wonder just how long before you get your next fix.
