majority of it is wicca-oriented
i just got it and decided to flip through and (maybe this is my fault for not researching more on it) the majority of it has to do with wiccan beliefs :( i’m gonna read more this weekend but i thought this would have more about the history of and information on the craft. witchcraft and wicca are not synonymous with each other...one is a craft and the other is a religion. hopefully when i actually read it it has more info i can use for my craft than i’m seeing now.

This is a very good summary of Witchcraft from a Gardnerian point of view. The authors are firmly planted in England and do not either know much nor understand Wicca in North America. There are the basic rituals used in Witchcraft, the Sabbats and a thorough explanation of different methods of scrying, divination, clairvoyance, astral projection, archetypes, and so on. One needs to know how to protect oneself before experimenting with spells and magic. This may be the type of book you take what you need for now, then come back for more at a later time. I highlighted alot, which I normally don't do. For me this was like a workbook. This is actually two previous books combined by the authors into one. It is very comprehensive work and also inclusive of Doreen Valentine and very respectful of other contemporary Wicca authors. For these reasons I think this is a text every serious Wicca student should study. I outlined it; that's the way I learn. The authors also refer the reader to authors of other relevant books, which sometimes I purchase. I am learning that Wicca includes knowledge from many other disciplines; it is just not about magic and spells. I don't think I will necessarily pursue a Gardnerian Coven but this gives a foundation and reference point one probably should have. If you are serious about Wicca, I suspect you need to digest this. This may help the reader to understand what direction you would like to go with your pagan beliefs. The title is appropriate.

No book is going to cover all traditions. Hey the truth is anything dealing with witch stuff is really new. The Catholic Church made up the name witch. You will not find the word witch anywhere in the Bible unless someone added it during the 13th Century. Ya all those so called witches that they burned were just midwives and herbal medicine people or very rich widows the church wanted to steal from. The witch stuff really started in the 20th Century, so everything in here is new or what they could put together from the last two hundred years. That is o.k. It is a new religion and very few people including witches and wiccans understand that. This book gives a good review of what is being done right now. And it does a good job at it. Of course you are not going to agree with everything in it and you do not have to. Learn from it and read other stuff so you can put together your own fantastic religion.

Best book on the Craft ever written; includes history, folklore, how to make your own tools, initiation, the Sabbat and Esbat rituals - everything you need to know. The Farrars' own BOS. This is the digital version so I don't know if it has all the photos, mine doesn't seem to have any, so I recommend getting a hard copy with illustrations and photos, an older copy written by both Stewart and Janet Farrar. That one surpasses any other book on the subject, past and present. Get a sample of this before buying the Kindle version and see if it is illustrated; if not, buy a hard copy, new or used by both Farrars. Best book to start out with; Give the fluffy bunny books a pass.

Glad that I found this book. I've started reading it and even learned a few things. Definitely not for someone that is looking for magick spells for love or get rich quick spells. This book goes into the history of each solstice and why we practice the way we do. So long as you're curious and have a realistic expectation on the pagan craft; this book is definitely for you.
Thank you for the speedy delivery!
Blessed be
PS. Finally have a Bible. I'm sure my Catholic family will be proud 😂

I purchased this book in the hopes of gleaning a better understanding of Wicca. With great enthusiasm and confidence, I can say that I am beyond pleased with my purchase! This book encompasses the fundamentals (the religion’s origination, Wiccan rituals, values and core belief structure, and more). If I were ever asked to recommend a general text that could explain this religion and its myriad facets, this would be my first choice.

As a practicing solo witch (Wicca is not a word I use for myself as being apart of) I picked this book up as part of my ever growing collection of books. I had no intention of using it's as a to the letter book of laws and ideals but rather as a part of a greater whole in defining just what and how I believe. While interesting and very informative, being a solo witch, this book left me feeling cold and alone. This entire books mainly focuses on coven ideals and practices. Drawing from this as a reference and lore source book, really is it's real usefulness.

Inside the cover of this book is contained two full books. The "Witchs Sabbats" and, "What witches do" Which in the long run tells you everything you need to know about the ideals and lore of it all.

To me it's a good, if not a little more Advance guide about being a witch and what many witches believe to be true.

If you are a solo witch and have been working a few years at the craft, and feel comfortable enough to take a few more leaps forward, this book will need to be studies, dismantled and then put back together again for it to fit with your solo ways. other then that it's a fantastic book and i highly recommend it for a second year Witch/wicca practitioner.

I am replacing a lost library, and this is one of the first books replaced. This is a true classic in the field, and I can't say enough about it. It's a terrific insight into Alexandrian-derived British Traditional Witchcraft, and the information and practices described in this tome have been a staple of my own practice for over fifteen years. If you are interested in how early BTW was done - Gardiner filtered through Sanders through the Farrars - this is the book. It is highly recommended for newcomers to the Craft (although I believe you should use their rituals as a guide and not a detailed only way of doing things).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book Full of Information on the Witch/Wiccan Path.

This is a fantastic book filled with so much information for the new Witch/Wiccan. I actually had my Amazon Alexa read it to me from my Kindle account (she will read you any of your Kindle books I realized). It was both interesting and enlightening. I have to say, each and every section was thrilling as I discovered more information on the path I've chosen. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan on having Alexa read it again at a later date. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to know more about this path.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bouqin sur la Wicca
Reviewed in France on March 23, 2019

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Pflichtlektüre über British Traditional Witchcraft
Reviewed in Germany on July 9, 2014
