From the Author

I love cinnamon rolls!  The soft, feathery-crumbed cinnamon-spiced rolls with ooey-gooey frosting, still warm from the oven. The tiny, little-black-dress kind that you can nibble in two bites. Decadent cinnamon sticky buns. Big-as-a-plate cinnamon rolls. Cinnamon rolls in the shape of "crowns," filled with blueberry, pumpkin, or sweet cheese mixture and topped with cinnamon streusel. There's a cinnamon roll for every occasion. every season, and every type of baker. Whether you like to make rolls from a mix (doctored-up Pillbury's Hot Roll Mix, for instance), old-fashioned kneaded dough, new-fangled no-knead dough, whole wheat, vegan, gluten-free, bread machine--or the fabulous croissant-like laminated dough so reminiscent of true Danish pastry--there's a dough and a recipe for you in this book.If you can't stop eating classic cinnamon rolls, you'll be happy.  If you like to venture beyond a little bit, then you can try a cinnamon filling with tongue-tingling Szechuan pepper and a glaze with fresh ginger. Or wake up happy to a cinnamon roll with a fresh orange glaze. They're all part of the World of Yum!

Cookbook and fiction author Judith Fertig grew up in the Midwest, went to college and cooking school in Europe, and now lives in the Kansas City area. Described by Saveur Magazine as a "heartland cookbook icon," Fertig writes cookbooks that reflect her love of bread, baking, barbecue, and the fabulous foods of the Heartland.

You can read some of her cookbooks like novels--the fabulously photographed Heartland, the award-winning and James Beard Awards-nominated Prairie Home Cooking (a "tour de force," says Saveur), the encylopedic All-American Desserts, and Prairie Home Breads. Her IACP Cookbook Award-winning The Back in the Swing Cookbook (with Barbara C. Unell) takes you on a delicious daily journey to get you back in the swing after breast cancer. And good news: the Anniversary edition of The Back in the Swing Cookbook with even more food and lifestyle content for breast cancer survivors is out in September, 2024!

And some of her books ARE novels. Her debut The Cake Therapist , the story of a talented pastry chef with a very special gift who opens a bakery in her hometown, with mesmerizing results. The award-winning sequel, The Memory of Lemon, followed. Her newest novel, The Art Detective, will be published in 2024.

Other books reflect her ongoing reign as a tiara-totin' BBQ Queen, having fun with co-author and co-queen Karen Adler, from BBQ Bash, 300 Big & Bold Barbecue Recipes, and Weeknight Grilling to 25 Essentials Planking, 25 Essentials Grilling Fish, and the best-selling The Gardener and the Grill. Do you know the 4 BBQ Queen Waves for when you become famous (for your barbecue or anything else) ?? Here are a few hints: Wiping the windshield, screwing in a lightbulb, fluttering the air. . . . Do them along with us on the Food Network. http://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=bGFVownwvVA

And some of her cookbooks just make you want to get in that kitchen and stir up something new--with one-bowl, no-knead bread in 200 Fast & Easy Artisan Breads or with your "electric assistant" in The Artisan Bread Machine.

Sweet and delicious and even around the world recipes!

Sweet and delicious and even around the world recipes!
So far so good! I’ve only tried one recipe, the classic cinnamon rolls, and it was delicious. I did use less cinnamon in the rolls and less cream cheese in the icing and had to slightly alter the icing recipe since it calls for using a food processor to mix the icing and I don’t have one. There was no liquid in the icing recipe (which would be fine in a processor) so I simply added a little liquid so it would mix together using a mixer. We have to calculate exact carbs in our house since my daughter has type one diabetes so it was 50 carbs in one cinnamon roll as I made it (using less icing) which is to be expected for a delicious cinnamon roll. Sometime when we want another sweet treat, we’ll have to try another recipe from the book. I love that it has recipes from around the world. The one drawback (although I understand why it’s done): I don’t prefer when a cookbook doesn’t include the entire recipe under a recipe heading. Instead it refers you to other partial recipes at other places in the book that add up to the recipe. I understand it costs more in printing and is repetitive for them to reprint the same basic partial recipe over and over as a base for other recipes but I tend to find it complicated and cumbersome to flip back and forth. For example, to make the Swedish cinnamon rolls, it refers you to make one batch of traditional cinnamon rolls from another page. Makes sense, I just tend to bake less from books that do so.

I have been looking for a recipe for the cinnamon roll dough. I tried several internet website recipes on cooking and baking and while they were acceptable, they just didn't quite match the goodness of the commercial Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll dough. The recipe on page 5 of "I love cinnamon rolls" is the one I chose to be my favorite. The rolls freeze well and when warmed in the microwave oven and brushed with vanilla frosting, they are the epitome of elegance and superb flavor. Eating them gives you a "trip around the world" experience. What a way to start your day.

We made cinnamon rolls and Kolaches for the kids on weekends when they were growing up. Now they ask for them when they come home for visits. Already had an old family recipe. Bought this because we were interested in the gluten free recipes. 92 pages. It's a specialized cook book for different varieties of cinnamon rolls. When we make cinnamon rolls, we turn half the dough into Bohemian Kolaches (which are not cinnamon rolls so they weren't covered). But they both have the same icing, just different fillings. For Kolaches, divide the dough into small round dough balls and place on greased baking pan 2 inches apart - cover and let rise 10 mins. Then punch down the hole in the middle and place the fruit filling into the hole. Same cooking time as the cinnamon roll.

I can't bake, but I love cinnamon rolls, and so does one of my kids--luckily the one who CAN bake--so I got us (meaning her) this book. She made one of the recipes with a yeast dough--something she hasn't got a lot of experience with--and they turned out wonderfully.
So we'll be making those again, and as many of the rest as we can eat.

The cover of this little book really inspired me to try my hand at making cinnamon rolls. The pictures are all you will need to make that happy journey into cinnamon roll heaven. The pictures are wonderful as one can see from the cover. I can almost taste them. If baking wonderful things for yourself or others (like a good neighbor) give this book top priority on your list of new things to enjoy. I bet you will have more people coming to your house to have coffee or tea than you ever knew you had. Don't be surprised if the postman, too, rings twice when he smells the rolls wafting from your kitchen window.

Family enjoys cinnamon rolls so I had to order this book. So far I have made several cinnamon rolls and they have turned out perfectly moist and fragrant . The pear rolls and the cinnamon rolls were very good. Trying next - the orange ones. Good variety of recipes. No guess work here. So please I ordered it.

We got this for my brother, who grades bakeries by their cinnamon roles. He can't wait to try out the recipes and his wife looks forward to him being able to perfect them so she is off the hook since she isn't nearly as into cinnamon rolls as he is.

I was disappointed in the book for four reasons:
1. The first recipe "easy cinnamon roll dough" used a package of "hot roll mix", which I had never heard of. After tracking it down the "hot roll mix" cost $3.00 for 16 oz. of flour and a few other ingredients, which made 12 rolls per the package's directions. So it was $3.00 plus, for each additional 12 cinnamon rolls.
2. This "easy cinnamon roll dough" recipe was referenced as a starting point for over half the following recipes in the book.
3. Most of the recipes referenced "Procure with a cinnamon roll recipe" which I could never find (which recipe, where?).
4. There was a lot of referencing to other pages throughout the book, so you were always flipping from one page to another.
Sorry no winner here. The pictures were good.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate cinnamon roll book!

If you love cinnamon rolls and want to mix it up a bit.... this is the book for you. With recipes for those short on time, and for those who want to experiment with different flavors. Great photography too. I bake cinnamon rolls weekly so appreciated some new ideas. I have given this book 5 stars on content but its not a big book, and felt that the price was a little high.... but still happy with my purchase.

Leckere Rezepte.
