George goes green! This picture book offers young children an appealing introduction to reusing and recycling.”—Booklist

George loves to go to the science museum. So, when he finds out that the museum is planning a “Green Day” dedicated to recycling and planting trees, George is curious and wants to help out! But little monkeys eager to help can sometimes become little monkeys getting into trouble. When George begins to find and recycle things around town that aren’t quite ready for the recycle bin, he gets into a jam.

Thankfully, George isn’t the only one who wants to help. The whole community can’t wait to lend a hand—and help George and the museum plant some trees!

Originally published to coincide with the opening of the Margret & H.A. Rey Center in Waterville, New Hampshire, a model for energy conservation offering literary, educational, and other programs, this book also includes kid-friendly tips for helping the environment.

From Booklist

When Curious George visits a science museum, he learns about the environment and hears about an upcoming recycling rally. Back at home, he loads empty cartons and old papers into his wagon. The next day, he happily picks up more papers to fill his wagon. His neighbors, angry to find their just-delivered newspapers gone, chase George all the way to the rally. After the man with the yellow hat arrives and explains George’s mistake, they stay to help plant trees. The book concludes with 20 child-centered “Living Green” tips, such as “Use both sides of your paper.” and “Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth,” which are illustrated on the book’s cheerful endpapers. With the tone of both art and story reminiscent of the original Curious George series, this picture book offers young children an appealing introduction to reusing and recycling. Preschool-Grade 1. --Carolyn Phelan

This was a birthday gift for a five year old. He LOVED it! He had it read to him as soon as the gifting was done. I also gave him a Blue Spruce seedling to go with it!

The book is a good story and I like that on the back of the book it shows, step by step how to plant a tree.

This is a great book. It goes in depth about various environmental issues, but not too in depth, it is kid friendly. There are lots of ideas in the back of the book to teach children about caring for the environment.

My preschooler loves Curious George, the only animated show that she has consistently loved since she was a toddler, and still watches the episodes [thanks to Tivo]. We get the books from the library and read them over and over, never tiring of the curious and adorable little monkey and his many escapades.

"Curious George Plants a Tree" is the latest in the series and conveys an environmentally friendly message - George and the Man with the Yellow Hat help Dr Lee, the Science Museum Director with preparations for Green Day, devoted to recycling and planting trees. George, in typical fashion, gets carried away and proceeds to collect recyclable 'trash' from his neighbors [which are actually items that have not been used yet]. Thankfully, the Man with the Yellow Hat steps in to rescue the little monkey from his neighbors' wrath!

The illustrations are in full-color and aptly convey the comical situation that George gets himself into. At the end of the story there are 20 handy tips for living green. This is a perfect story for delivering a 'green' message to preschoolers, kindergartners, 1st and 2nd graders. Great for classroom use, especially in launching a discussion on the environment.
