From the Author

You know that you love treats. You know you are going to eat them. So why not make them as healthful as possible? You don't have to be vegan to enjoy these whole grain, naturally sweetened treats, in fact, anyone who wants to feel great will enjoy this book. Chewy, deeply flavored cookies, satisfyingly sweet and hefty muffins, and decadent pies and cakes are just a few of the recipes destined to be your go-to baking recipes.
When I was coming up with the idea for this book, I was thinking about the changes that I have seen in the numbers of vegans (going up, yay!) and in the way that vegan food has changed. It seems that in the effort to make treats that remind you of the conventional ones, we were getting away from whole foods, and turning to white flour and sugar a little too often. The rising numbers of vegans have also made a target market for the manufacturers, who are more than happy to sell you a packaged cookie or dessert made with refined foods.
I wanted to get back to the way I learned about vegan baking in the beginning of my vegan career, and use whole flours and natural sweeteners.
This book is the result, a blend of my old school whole foods leanings and all the new techniques, flavors, and products that have made vegan baking easier.
I hope you enjoy it!

I've made the 3 nut baklava twice and the fig bars once since I got this book. There are ZERO recipes in here I do not want to try. This food is amazing. The photos are beautiful. I'm going to be the fattest vegan in town if I keep making stuff this yummy.

This book is a great introduction to the world of vegan sweets. Most of the recipes require minimal fuss and the ingredients are easy to find in the local supermarket. The animal product substitutions are varied instead of the old tofu standby, which is a plus for those who may want to limit their soy intake. Sweet & Easy Vegan proves that deprivation need not be a part of the vegan lifestyle.

I just got this in the mail yesterday. I have been waiting for this to come out. I normally substitute whole grains and natural sweetners when I am baking so I was really looking foward to this book. While I have yet to make anything from it I did look over almost every recipe.

First things, the book is beautiful and the pictures look delicious. However I didnt see anything I am dying to make. The main reason for that is that I am a cookie fan. I love to bake cookies, espically if they have chocolate in them. This book has only 4 cookie recipes (not counting the 5 breakfast cookies). And out of the 4 only 2 looked like something I would like. I assumed in a dessert book that their would be more cookie recipes. There is plenty of muffin, pie, and cake recipes. This is why I gave it 3 stars. I wanted some healthier cookie options but I didnt find them here.

My other problem with the book is that while the recipes may use natural sweetners they are not low sugar. I noticed several recipes called for 1/2C to 1C of maple or brown rice syrup. These things arent cheap. I use both of these frequently to bake, but rarley use that much, because they are expensive. When I bake I normally cut back the sugar and I was hoping with this book I wouldnt have to.

Can't see if this important information is given in the book, the Look Inside sample pages - too small to ascertain. Thanks.
