- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2013Nothing much has been written about the Mosquito aircraft. This is a detailed, comprehensive and indepth account of the aircraft and the men who flew it. It flew mostly unarmed on its missions and in its primary role of a photo reconnisance aircraft and as such it was vulnerable to attack but relied on its exceptional speed to outrun enemy aircraft. Powered by two Rolls Royce Merlin engines (the Spitfire engine) and built of wood making it an exceptionally light aircraft for its size it was one of the high performance aircraft of World War II and beyond. It was an exceptional low level performer and many of its most famous feats were low level attacks and bombing in the latter part of the war. Until the introduction by the Germans of their ME262 jet fighter no German fighter could match the Mosquito's speed.
A well written book and one that is hard to put down once you start reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2013Wasn't the history of the aircraft I was looking for. Great stories of aircrew courage and flying abilities. I really didn't need to know the names of every aircrew . Also, what awards they received. The missions were very interesting to read about. Flying as low as they did, I'm surprised many more aircraft and crews weren't lost. Not enough info about the aircraft and its weapons systems.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2022An interesting collection of missions flown in Mosquito aircraft during WWII. some are accounts from records and many others are first person accounts by both Mosquito pilots and navigators. Both the European and the Far East India campaigns are covered.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2015Great airplane mediocre book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2013While I had been aware of the USA involvement in WW2 I somehow forgot the England was there long before us. Flying wooden airplanes because of lack of other materials was just amazing to me. the sucess of that program is a monument to all those that flew and maintained that aircraft. My hats off to the author that put the book together so well
Glad I purchased
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2014I have always been interested in the Mosquito so this seemed like an obvious choice. I liked it for the first person narratives of individual missions.
However, it missed the mark in a few areas. First the different versions and development of the aircraft could have been covered better. I found it disjointed and a few more pictures showing the variants would have made it better. The author also spent a lot of time covering missions in which people went out and came back with no elaboration. This happened at the start of the book and later when he covers the aircraft's Asian service.
These low points are made up for in covering the American use of the plane and the descriptions of other missions over Germany and in the pinpoint bombing of various Gestapo headquarters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really detailed look at the operations
This was full of quite detailed interviews and similar details that gave me a real feel for what the people operating this aircraft did, the the risks taken and the cost paid. The description of tactics and equipment used were also very interesting.
Altogether a worthwhile read for anyone interested in these aircraft and how they were used.

3.0 out of 5 stars Factuel

3.0 out of 5 stars Umfangreich, detailliert, aber etwas mühsam zu lesen

5.0 out of 5 stars It made me realise just what a great aircraft it was
It made me realise just what a great aircraft it was. I did not realise how many were built and in some many variants.

5.0 out of 5 stars the brave generation
I found the book fast moving. With just enough detail to keep my interest.I am in complete awe of the bravery of the plots who day after day put their life on the line. And did k without giving it a second. Thought
