From Booklist

After more than 20 stories—but who’s counting?—Splat the Cat shows no signs of slowing down. When Splat’s class performs the school play, Cinderpaws, Paw-Prints Charming gets a bad case of stage fright. Guess who steps in? Splat, of course, and his oversize costume ends up bringing down the house—literally. The wacky, vibrantly colored illustrations, similar to those you might see in a modern animated movie, push along the fast-paced tale while the authors’ punnery keeps things lively, right up to ensuring that Splat makes good on his name: “Then everything went tumbling . . . SPLAT!” More to come? Count on it. Preschool-Grade 1. --Julie Cummins

The illustrations are wonderful and my little girl loves to laugh at Splat! She wonders if he visits up hairball sometimes. But, seriously, this is a super cute, funny book and it has life lessons in it.

Splat is a series of cat books. V funny , harmless. Good to motivate kids to read.

Love these books for their teaching quality, however, I have noticed, the author tries to over simplify, and it sometimes comes across in reading aloud as a fleeting thought...SQUIRREL!....sort of read. Still, my kids love them.

Such a colorful lovely and lively picture book. As a cat lover just can't resist wanting to share my discovery to great nieces and nephews born into cat owner homes!

My grands, specifically my granddaughter, love the entire Splat the Cat series. They live far from me so I read via FaceTime. It keeps us close.

There is a lot to like about Splat the Cat books. They're cheap, and filled with pages of wonderful illustrations. I personally don't really like the stories, feeling they are mostly phoned in for each new release, but my kids can't get enough of them. This story is another winner as far as my children are concerned (5 year old daughter and 3 year old son). They particularly love the illustrations, and love seeing small details scattered across the pages. For instance, Spike, Splat's friend and star of the play Cinderpaws, has stage fright. My children love how he is seen in pages preceding his meltdown shaking behind the stage curtain. For my children it makes the world come alive, much like how Richard Scarry books did for me.

All this being said I still don't really like the ending, which tells children that bumbling and making a mockery of yourself for laughs is a way to be best appreciated. I am over thinking it of course, but wish that Splat could be successful through his hard work.

The first time I read this to my 3 year-old she loved it and I found it charming. After reading it every night for a month, with every other book being rejected by my child, I was ready to scream....still, she loves it, so definitely worth buying!
