Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Vollstedt (Big Book of Soups & Stews; Big Book of Casseroles; etc.) is no stranger to the single dish, and she knows party-size portions. The Oregon-based author offers tips on throwing a potluck ("give yourself enough time to plan") as well as guidelines for hosting or attending events including church parties, picnics or at-home celebrations. With more than 275 recipes, her helpful book offers an abundant selection of hors d'oeuvres, including fancy spreads (e.g., Greek Cheese Spread with Roasted Red Pepper on Toasted Pita Wedges; White Bean and Garlic Purée) and dips (Fresh Herbs and Walnut), and more traditional platters, such as Party Deviled Eggs. In addition to great salads (e.g,. Chicken Curry Salad with Chutney Dressing), Vollstedt's casseroles and other baked dishes stand out, with such crowd-pleasers as End-of-Summer Vegetable and Fresh Herb Casserole; Beef Enchiladas; and Ziti with Tomatoes, Artichokes, Basil, Cheese, and Olives.

I got this first as a Kindle book from the library, and wasn't really expecting too much from it. I'm really surprised at the variety in this cookbook. The salad section is amazing. I haven't even gotten to the main dishes yet and decided I had to have this cookbook as part of my collection of 800+ cookbooks. I'm not expecting to like every recipe, but so far I see a few I'll try. Someone said in a review this is mostly basic recipes. I would tend to disagree with that statement. Granted, there are some basic's, but I think there's plenty of variety here. I see several chicken enchilada recipes I want to try. I may have to check out some of her other cookbooks!

Lots of good recipes but not a picture in the book if you like a picture now and then this ones not for you, Now if you can get along without them its a good book lots to make easy I seem to have most of the ingredients right in the pantry. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a few pictures.

Looks like some good recipes. I have not tried any of them out. I was looking for recipes with large amounts of ingredients, and this book seems to have that. Good condition

I haven't actually made any of the recipes yet but I love to read cookbooks like novels. Many great looking recipes - I can hardly wait until my next potluck. This book gave me inspiration!

Being single and wanting to participate in the church potlucks this has been an inspiration to me as a man who cannot boil water without burning the pan. I have never been one to survive on tv dinners and this book takes me out of my comfort zone to cook for myself until God brings the wife he chose for me.
