- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2013This is author McNicol's first novel & she did a great job. Her descriptions of the characters and the town are quite good -- you can really visualize what they look like. I look forward to more novels from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2019This was a really good book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Great character development with lots of twists and turns along the way. It was hard to put down at times and I'd find myself reading late into the night. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a really good romance book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2012Home Again is the first novel for D. B. McNicol. I sure hope it isn't the last. It was a fast paced book that hooked me from the short story prequel (Lost and Found) thru to the last page of this book.
Probably because I came from a small mid-west town like the one in the book, I appreciated how McNicol brought the characters to life. They rang true as I remembered the people from my childhood. I especially like the way that she described how the young son embraced the rural life vs. his big city roots in Chicago.
I whole heartily recommend this book.

She returns from Chicago to her home town in Kansas with her son. They make friends and relationships leading to a happy ending😆
I would recommend this stand alone book and author to readers of romantic family and friends relationships novels. 2024
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2015I got this book awhile ago and had only read a couple chapters. I decided to finally finish it and couldn't put it down. It is what I call a wholesome book. No swearing or x rated scenes. The characters were likeable and the dialogue was natural, easy to follow. I highly recommend it because like the title says it's a refreshing change. I'm looking forward to reading her other books.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2016I love Donna's writing, and love that it's fairly wholesome while still being a terrific story! The characters are believable like real people who you care about. We need more like this.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2015I wanted to like this book, but unfortunately the plot lacked depth. I found the hero and heroine to be rather silly and their characters were not well fleshed out. Nothing of note happened in the story - unless you count a tornado, which was the most exciting slant in there and even it was taken up with far too much trivia. The dialogue was weak - a friend calling another "Miss Snotty Pants" is something a ten year old would say - and could have been written by someone from The People's Friend - a UK magazine which only publishes stories with have no animals, no sex of any solid worth and no guts. The abrupt end to the chapter in Home Again, where something sexy might have taken place - the reader is not privy to that - would have suited PF down to the ground.
The heroine of Home Again was a silly woman who shouldn't have known better than to...well, no spoilers here. Suffice to say that the hero, who did very little policing as far as I could see, could have done better after her ridiculous lapse in judgement.
If this is the author's first book, then there is hope for a better effort next time. We all learn as we go along and most writers bin their first attempts before publishing a book.
