Healing Summer (The Coulter Men Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 25 ratings

Ditched at the altar…biopsied for cancer…Mollie Hinkle is having a bona fide bitch of a summer. When life sucks so hard it takes your breath away, what's a girl to do?

Road trip! Pack a bag, grab a few friends, and leave the past and the worry in the rear view mirror. What wounds can’t be healed by a drive across the Heartland, where quarter flips at cross roads determine the route and the future?

All roads lead to Craig, the second son and bad boy of the haughty Coulter line. Craig has spent his life taking care of number one—himself. He’s not interested in a relationship and he’s definitely not looking to fall in love. But if a morsel drops in his lap, who is he to refrain?

Mollie’s not looking for love either, but truth be told, she’s not opposed to it. Heck, if fate brought her to the miniscule Montana town to find happily ever after, she won’t fight it.Perhaps it is a summer where love, not time, heals all her wounds.

About the Author

Elizabeth divides her time between her beach cottage and her scrupulously clean house in the hills of West Virginia. Ooops. That's fantasy Elizabeth. The real Elizabeth spends her days schlepping after her four boys (five if you count their father) and the assortment of pets they swore they'd take care of. She does live in West Virginia; the house is clean when the mother-in-law visits; and she does have serious dreams of living at the beach. Elizabeth is a Marshall University graduate with a degree in counseling. This has proven very beneficial when dealing with the make-believe friends she hangs out with all day (she calls this 'writing'). Follow her blog at: http: //www.eseckman.blogspot.com

Elizabeth spends her time daydreaming (she calls this writing) and working at her job in prevention services. She is the mother of four well-behaved young men and wife to their ornery, rotten father. The male dominance in the Seckman House has been weakened with the inclusion of one amazing daughter-in-law.

A dog and two cats round out the family.

A graduate of Marshall University, she lives in a small town on the Ohio River in West Virginia, but dreams of owning a beach house...or at least having a magically clean house.

I've had this book on my Kindle for quite a while, but it kinda got lost in the crowd. A recent visit to the author's blog reminded me that I hadn't yet read it...

So now I have. And I'm glad.

It's a delightful romance. Wonderful characters, too. At the beginning of the story, Molly and her best friend (nicknamed) Jack are on a "recovery trip" of sorts. Mollie just got her teeth kicked in... metaphorically speaking... when her self-centered cad of a fiance dumped her at the altar. You've gotta love maid of honor Jack, though, because she darned near kicked the fiance's teeth in... literally. Yep. Went right after him in the church and bloodied his nose. But that's not surprising. Jack has been looking after Mollie ever since they were kids. That's when Mollie battled cancer for the first time. Now, the cancer may be back, so this trip is also a way to help Mollie prepare for the biopsy results.

What she wasn't prepared for was meeting bad boy Craig. Not that he was any more prepared for meeting a woman like Mollie. The last thing he needs or wants is a woman in his life. He doesn't want to fall in love, doesn't ever expect to fall in love, and doesn't even believe he deserves to be happy.

Sure, from the get-go, readers can guess how the story's likely to end, but that doesn't matter one iota. It's still a delight to read. Even brought tears to my eyes a couple times. There's lots of ups and downs, misunderstandings, miscommunications, and hurt feelings, but you know what? In the end comes the heartening affirmation that truth and love CAN conquer all. And I, personally, will never grow tired of happy endings.

Turns out this is the second book in the series... but it stood on its own beautifully. Still, I also have the first book hiding on my Kindle, so I'll be reading that one in the near future. And my guess is, I'll enjoy it just as much as this one.

Healing Summer by Elizabeth Seckman was a joy to read. I loved that the characters had a definite personality right from the beginning. Molly Hinkle is left at the altar, by a real creep I might add, and goes on a road trip with her best girls, well one of them at least. While out on her road trip she is set up with Craig Coulter, a playboy known for his lack of committed relationships, which is great for Molly because the last thing she wants is a new relationship. I love seeing Molly let go of all the things that are holding her back, and definitely relate to her lack of enthusiasm for returning back to her teaching job.

I really would like to applaud Ms. Seckman on her ability to make her characters so real. The characters come alive so easily for any reader and are not to prim and proper to relate to. I also like the fact that there is an interracial relationship in the story as well. This is not a cookie cutter romance, even though the happily ever after was still included.

I read this book in a day and a half. It was a fast read and very entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone who likes contemporary romance novels.

This is a good story. The girl down on her luck. With friends who would defend from all ills. The chemistry is good. Too graphic, easy to skip those parts.

I tend to be an eye-roller during all of the starry-eyed parts you find in most romance novels, but with this book I just kept reading and kept drooling! Her characters are appealing without being unbelievable and the dialogue is smart, entertaining, and full of spunk that really makes the characters that much more real. Mollie is instantly relatable to 20-somethings everywhere who've faced the prospect of `settling' and mistaking comfort and routine for love. And the relationship she has with her best friend Jack is endearing and touching, not to mention one of the deepest and most beautifully developed parts of the story! Craig is dreamy, but it doesn't keep the reader from wanting to slap him across the face when he gets his pout on and lets his mouth take over :-)

I don't pick up many romance novels since I usually find I can't relate to the characters (especially being a snarky tomboy geek at heart). I'll definitely pick up ANY book by this author!

Healing Summer is a story that hooked me from the beginning. Craig Coulter is your typical playboy, but the minute Molly Hinkle arrives on the scene, his heart is as good as gone. I love the building tension in the plot. The entire time I read, I was rooting for Molly, hoping she'd get a clean bill of health. Mostly I love what Craig does when he realizes he can't live without her. From beginning to end, this book kept my interest. Elizabeth Seckman did a wonderful job weaving a plot just as captivating as her debut novel, Past Due, which was the first story of the Coulter men. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a great romance.

Desperately waiting on book 3. I have so thoroughly enjoyed, not only this book, but this family. The antagonist is delightfully cruel and cowardly - a joy to despise... The heroes and heroines so easily likable... The setting - a place I don't have to visit, because I was transported there already.

Elizabeth....you have to message me when the next installment comes out.....I am desperate for Trip`s story. Thanks for writing romance that isn't filled with filth, but the beauty of love....

Seckman has once again created a romance novel that you won't be able to put down! I'm not typically an avid romance novel reader, but her books add just enough suspense and drama to keep the reader engaged throughout the book. I read this one in a day and a half, because I couldn't wait to see how it ended for Mollie and Craig. Like her first book, "Past Due", this one contains characters with substance...personalities you can relate to. You will walk away feeling like you know them personally. Looking forward to more great reads from this author.
