Cinnamon Roll Murder (Hannah Swensen series Book 15) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,475 ratings

The Fresh Baked USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle And Chicago Tribune Bestseller!

April is a busy time for Hannah Swensen and her bakery; the warm weather makes folks in Lake Eden, Minnesota, go wild for something sweet. When Hannah hears that the Cinnamon Roll Six jazz band will be playing at the town’s Weekend Jazz Festival, she’s more than happy to bake up a generous supply of their namesake confections to welcome the band to town.

Before the festival even begins, tragedy strikes when the tour bus overturns. Among those injured is Buddy Neiman, the band’s beloved keyboard player. Buddy’s injuries appear minor, until his condition suddenly takes a turn for the worse—as in dead. Hannah’s no doctor, but she suspects that the surgical scissors someone plunged into Buddy’s chest may have something to do with it. Hannah isn’t sure just how she’ll unravel the mystery, but one thing’s for sure: nothing’s sweeter than bringing a killer to justice . . .

I was so sad after reading this book...because now I have to wait 1 more year for another dose of Hannah, her sisters, mom, Norman, mike and all the other characters that I have become accustomed to love. This book was great. It starts off when Hannah (main character) and her sister happen upon an accident. They discover a dead body on the bus. Later another person dies. The mystery moves fast from that point. the characters are: Hannah the main character and sleuth, Hannah's sister Michelle, Hannah's sister Andrea, Norman, Hannah's boyfriend #1, mike, Hannah's boyfriend #2, Lisa who owns the cookie shop with Hannah, Hannah's mom, and many other characters. Many people say that the author fluke uses the same format for each book. example: Hannah never wants to get out of bed, after she wakes, she seeks to drink scathing hot coffee, she showers and puts on frumpy clothes, someone calls (mom, sisters or Norman) at 5am, she goes to work and finds her partner Lisa at work, Lisa has already baked the cookies, Hannah complains about her weight, Hannah and Lisa eat cookies and drink more scathing hot coffee, the cookie shop opens, Hannah's boyfriends stop by the cookie shop for some free cookies and scathing hot coffee, she finds a dead body, she leaves Lisa to run the cookie shop for a few days, she investigates, she goes home each night, she cleans up some mess that her cats made, mike comes over to eat dinner and dessert after a long day at working as a cop. they drink more scathing hot coffee, mike or Norman never sleep over (though you wish they would already), mystery is solved. Mike or Norman saves her from the killer, and throughout the book she corrects people's grammar. The end. It almost always goes that way. However, where some see this as a fault, I love it. It is comforting and fluke is still an great writer and makes all the above parts above worth reading. I would recommend these books. Fluke is the first cozy author I started reading and seriously, have yet to find one to top this series. I have other cozy favorites, but nothing beats a good dose of Hannah and the gang! I wish I had not read the book in one day--now I miss the characters. Character development: always great. Mystery: good, I did not guess the killer, there were some clues scattered. Theme: very good. Side note: there is a good side story about her and one of her boyfriend's Norman...but you will just have to read it to find out! Don't want to ruin it! READ IT! And then read the others in the Hannah Swenson series.

Joanne Fluke follows a fairly predictable model for these books- Hannah bakes, Hannah finds a body, Hannah solves the crime, Hanna solves the crime by being the only one in a semi-dangerous situation with the killer- until Mike or Norman (or Both) ride in to save her. I'm not going to completely fault the writer- she feels she's found a formula that works and she's going with it. After all,we're still buying the books, so we must LOVE them? I was on the fence about buying this book- I've been wanting resolution with the Norman/Mike triangle for several books, and I hoped (but did not truly expect) that Dr.Bev might be a form of a resolution.

The book opened up nice enough with a little intrigue in just a few pages. The mystery part was not bad, even though for most of the book I anticipated a different killer. The characters aren't bad either- they are a nice sounding group of people and definitely a "cozy". What bothers me the most of this series is that some parts Joanne Fluke just keeps rinsing/repeating. Ex. We all know Andrea can't cook. She's the fashionable, perfectly put together one. So when Hannah made a note about 'whole eggs" in her recipe and said "Andrea would have to be told to crack the eggs and then use them" (I'm paraphrasing), that bothered me a little because seriously even if you're not a "baker" this still seemed to be a common-sense thing. Of course, in the next chapter, Andrea lets us know that this did happen to her 1 time, but still.
The men. Hannah keeps dating them, but no progress with either really. Mike drops in at all hours for food and Norman can be wimpy. Hannah's own mother is making far more headway in her romantic life with Doc, than Hannah is with either man.

The books are still ok, they are semi-entertaining, and are similar to an old sweatshirt that has seen a better day- you know you should get rid of it, but it makes you feel comfortable, so you keep it.If you're looking for something light and fluffy- you've found the right series.

***Likes****
1. Hannah's mother finding the body, therefore showing Joanne Fluke can break her mold for these books.

****Dislikes***
1. The bus driver- never really resolved- murder/accident.

Who is Buddy really? Norman’s getting married? What’s going on in Lake Eden? New characters are introduced in this book in new venues, as always this book is a great read. This book has new intrigue added in to the series that gives Hannah and the Swenson ladies a couple of mysteries to solve.

Although this series is a bit white bread for my liking, I still find the characters full of charm and the murders intriguing. This entry in this series was particularly entertaining!

Hannah and company always come through. Norman was at risk, a murder in the hospital and so many cookie recipes. I love all the characters except Mike. I know we need him in t he stories but I wish we didn't. Anyway, this I s still a very good book.

Another book that makes you want to stop reading and get baking! I'm not sure how well my cinnamon rolls will turn out, but I'll be having a go when I've got all the ingredients together (they are all things we can get in the UK). The story is up to Jo Fluke's usual standard too!

Well it was better than the last book but ...
Ok "spoiler alert" Norman finally grows a backbone in the last 2 pages and Hannah has a go at not being a doormat for everyone but I still think the murder is more of a background scenery to Hannah's relationship with Norman, Mike and Dr. Bev than a main storyline.
Also I really don't like the shoddy editing these books have been given, few and often no paragraph breaks causing me to go back and re-read sentences because the story jumps from one conversation to a completely different one or later time is bad enough add to that the over indulgence of 4 page recipes peppered with notes that feels like the book has been padded either by an editor or the author herself is causing me to feel insulted for buying such a substandard puffed out story.
On the up side what there is of a murder story is interesting if not particularly fleshed out and has soooo many coincidences and of course the murderer realises Hannah has figured out he did at the same time she actually does figure it out and goes after her. Really again?! Can't the author use any other ending?
Whoops. I really meant to say it's an ok book, not so bad if you don't have anything better and don't mind that the author keeps writing using the same basic recipe.
