Grow Regardless: Of Your Business' Size, Your Industry or the Economy and Despite the Government! Kindle Edition
Joe Mechlinski is a man with a mission: to help businesses grow regardless of their size, their industry, or the economy, and despite the government. Growing up in inner-city Baltimore, Joe learned firsthand what it’s like to be undervalued and underserved. After graduating from one of the worst high schools in the city, Joe attended one of the best colleges in the country, became an entrepreneur, and learned one of the most critical steps to growth: People are your most important asset.
He now runs an award-wining management consulting firm. For more than ten years he has been sharing this and other critical strategies for “growing regardless” with hundreds of companies nationwide. Grow Regardless presents the philosophy behind each step, explains how to implement, and provides exercises to help leaders get started. It also features in-depth interviews with successful CEOs talking candidly about their experiences and successes with this method.

"You have the capacity to influence others and start a movement that makes life better for everyone in America. It’s time to sidestep our governmental gridlock, link arms, get completely honest with ourselves and each other, and do the right thing, which is to make meaningful promises to ourselves, our employees, our clients, our neighbors, and our families and then to keep our word, no matter what. The time has come to find our voice as a group. Leaders of small to midsize businesses have the potential to drive this country’s economy, and it’s high time we started acting like it. It’s going to take our combined heart, hustle, and humility to break through to the other side, but we can do it. Not only will we come out of the process better people than we were going in, but we’ll also bootstrap our nation’s recovery.
I believe the firsthand stories and simple strategies contained within these pages will move us closer to that worthy goal. These principles have the power to transform ordinary businesses into mission-driven growth organizations, and that has the power to change communities.
This is our movement: Helping companies Grow Regardless.
Study this book. Apply its principles. Pass it on. Grow Regardless."

Joe Mechlinski is a New York Times bestselling author, speaker, and social entrepreneur who believes that an engaged workforce is the key to unlocking human potential. Joe has a deep-rooted passion for helping build engaged mission-driven cultures and challenging business leaders to think strategically about how they attract, develop, and retain the best talent to grow, regardless.
While earning his degree from the Johns Hopkins University, Joe founded four ventures—with varying degrees of success and failure—to pay his way through college. At 23, to transform the purpose of business and revolutionize workforce engagement, Joe founded SHIFT, a collective of businesses spanning consulting, executive membership, and venture capitalism. SHIFT has offices in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Boston. All focus on one idea: Better you. Better us. Better all.
SHIFT has been recognized by the Baltimore Business Journal as one of the “Best Places to Work” for five consecutive years and by Inc. Magazine, nationally, as an “Inc. Best Workplace” for two consecutive years.
Since founding the business, Joe and SHIFT have been featured on Bloomberg Radio, Forbes, Entrepreneur, and The Wall Street Journal Online. In 2014, Joe was invited to sit on the White House Small Business Council. A decade after SHIFT’s inception, Joe compiled the lessons he learned from his early life experiences, and his work with more than 600 organizations across the country, into the 2013 New York Times bestseller: Grow Regardless.
Joe’s latest book, Shift the Work, shares his personal journey to find purpose, and how it influenced him to take a deeper dive into the science of human behavior. Inspired by neuroscience research about the connections between the brains in the head, heart, and gut that drive human perspectives and conduct, Joe shares how everyone can re-engage with their work and impact the world.
Always embarking on new adventures, Joe launched his podcast, Shift Happens, which features inspiring guests such as New York Times bestselling author Dan Pink, and three-time New York Times bestselling author Tucker Max. Shift Happens is where disappointment meets success, frustration leads to transformation, and crossroads drive life-changing choices. Joe goes deep with trailblazers in every industry, from entrepreneurs to comedians, and they all have something in common—one great story.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2013This book was recommended to me by my wife who works at Joe's father's (Jim's) trucking company that he mentions in the book (he never mentions them by name; hmmm? ). She is not the business book reader that i am but it was mentioned to her by Jim himself. I am glad he did. What a great book. Extremely well written and organized, but most importantly, Joe provides a basic business philosophy that will allow your company to grow regardless of the circumstances. His process is designed primarily for companies who are in a position of difficulty, or are at least in need of some soul searching, and are in need of a "reset." As a future business owner myself, this philosophy is most applicable to any business or future business at any stage. The process he spells out is what every company should follow when identifying its core values. Amy Cosper, Editor in Chief of Entrepreneur Magazine, in this month's issue said " ...you better understand your company's soul way before you start designing a business card." Joe captures this all important concept and expands upon it. This is how businesses should be built. It is certainly how I will build mine. Well done!!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2013I've found Grow Regardless to be a great read! Joe Mechlinski offers a straight-forward approach that draws on his wide breadth of experience to nail the essentials and stress the finer points of business growth, despite of the economic environment surrounding it.
The author's thoughts include the style of work-place culture small business owners must strive foster in order to grow; this is something which I personally I believe is an essential building block for business success. His knowledge of those successful values and traits make him a resource, a mentor, and a helpful guide for any business that thinks similarly.
To sum it all up, Joe is to be commended for writing this book as a "small business cartographer", laying out a clear and detailed map for growth that feels both intuitive and instinctive.
I've personally aided a diverse group of small businesses with start-up and growth in a variety of fields and, and this book is now on the highly recommended list for all of my clients!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2013I've known Joe for many years and have been a passionate believer in his message and style of doing business as well as having the privileged of calling him a friend.
Responsible for growing a mid-sized IT Solutions company in the DC Metro area, I'm always looking for ways to get ahead... so when Joe took his many years of passion towards growth and put it into a book, I wanted to get my hands on it.
When I read a management book, I carry a highlighter. I look for tidbits of information, highlight them and later when reviewing use it to find what I felt valuable in a book months and years later...
Reading Joe Mechlinski's book, I highlighted so much my highlighter ran out and I had to get another one! Yes, I highlighted that much "good stuff".
The amount of usable tid-bits Joe give in this read is simply amazing.
He doesn't draw it out into a hard read, it's quick, fast, actionable and right on target.
If you want to Grow Regardless... you HAVE to buy this book, read it, absorb it, then reread it, and share it!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2013I was introduced to the book after being interviewed by one of EntreQuest's Recruiters, Maria. I read many self improvement books along with sales books and must say "Grow Regardless" is an enlightening inspiration after my own up bringing. I have already purchased 2 more copies for business owners that I think would learn by reading Joe's work. I must at least say thank you to Joe for publishing a business and behavioral book that will help CEO's and small businesses grow with today's society.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2013Mechlinksi provides a clear step-by-step guide for resetting an organization. Many companies lose their way. Maybe the management team has lost focus. Perhaps the sales team has become more worried about internal issues than about client relationships. Or maybe the world has changed and the old vision and definition are less relevant. Regardless of the reason, when the way things have always been done no longer delivers results, its time for a change. Some of the things Mechlinksi suggests have been identified by other authors. Heifetz and Linsky (Leadership on the Line) identify this dilemma as an adaptive problem and describe leadership tools for helping an organization find its way. Gallup's authors have emphasized customer relationships. Numerous business writers have discussed vision and the importance of relationships. What Mechlinski brings to the table that the others do not is a systematic method for an organization to discover its adaptive problems, identify key relationships, and follow a process for aligning the organization around its shared vision and key relationships. This is a refreshingly practical approach. I would give it five stars, except that I found no new aha moments. But maybe I should have given it five stars, because aha moments were not needed.
