I prefer stories where both characters are from upper society but this story was handled well. Vivian is a thief who wants nothing more than to live a normal life but gets caught by Lord David Reece. David has lead a rather disreputable life but is trying to be respectable when Vivian steals his symbol of respectability. Their clash of wills leads to love and a bit more adventure.

this is a good romance with a well constructed plot. there is just enough plot beyond the "boy meets girl" to be interesting. it's about the travails and trials of a rogue seeking redemption, and could have been much improved had this been explored a little more. the overly abrupt ending is a serious flaw. i honestly thought i had accidentally skipped the last chapter. i was left wondering if the rogue found acceptance, how his final decision was received, what happened to Simon, Flynn and the others, and what was David's family's take on the matter. Vivian's missing father seemed like a missed plot wrap up opportunity as well. aside from the somewhat unsatisfying ending, i enjoyed the book.

What a great concept - David who is trouble with a capital T finally gets some some discipline and starts to grow up when he meets Vivian who is trouble too but has really had no other options. The plot was twisted with sensual and imaginative scenes that are a kind of tongue and cheek version of David's lifestyle done in a light almost hilarious sense where you keep thinking no he wouldn't lock a girl in a bedroom or no he wouldn't fall in love with a thief. You get the feeling that David is not the most intelligent person but somehow it always works out for him. I couldn't put it down. The characters were great in this novel - loved the valet/butler/maid/cook who took care of everything, kind of.

Caroline Linden ist eine echte Entdeckung. Interessant finde ich, daß sämtliche ihrer Heldinnen keine Jungfrauen mehr sind (was der Handlung in jedem Falle gut bekommt): in den drei Teilen der Reece-Trilogie sind es zwei Witwen (Celia und Hannah) und ein Mädchen, von dem man das auch nicht erwartet (Vivian). Damit sind die erotischen Szenen bei ihr wirklichkeitsgetreuer als bei vielen anderen Autoren. Die Handlung finde ich: gut komponiert, an keiner Stelle ermüdend, die Personen sind stimmig geschildert: sowohl der etwas unterkühlt wirkende Markus als auch David, den die Schatten seiner Vergangenheit heimsuchen und Anthony, der vor allem gelernt hat, sich, auf sich allein gestellt, in der Gesellschaft zu behaupten. Die Frauengestalten sind eine Spur schwächer ausgearbeitet, ohne daß das störend ist.

In on the theft is Vivian Beecham - who is ulitmately tracked down by David (who is determined to get the ring back) and who kidnaps Vivian and makes her his prisoner. As time goes on Reece and Vivian come to love each other and plan together the return of the ring and ultimately a life together.
