The Governess Club: Claire Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 274 ratings

For fans of Christina Dodd and Elizabeth Boyle.

Claire Bannister just wants to be a good teacher so that she and the other ladies of the Governess Club can make enough money to leave their jobs and start their own school in the country. But when the new sinfully handsome and utterly distracting tutor arrives, Claire finds herself caught up in a whirlwind romance that could change the course of her future.

Jacob Knightly has a secret. He is actually the notorious Earl of Rimmel. He's just posing as a tutor to escape his reputation in the city. He never expected to fall in love with the kind and beautiful governess. She is the first person to love him for himself and not his title.

But when Jacob's true identity is revealed, Claire realizes she has risked her reputation and her heart on a man she doesn't truly know. Will Jacob be able to convince her that the Wild Earl has been tamed and that she is the true countess of his heart?

About the Author

Ellie Macdonald has held several jobs beginning with the letter T: taxi driver, telemarketer, and, most recently, teacher. She is thankful her interests have shifted to writing instead of taxidermy or tornado chasing. Having traveled to five different continents, she has swum with elephants, scuba dived through coral mazes, visited a leper colony, and climbed waterfalls and windmills, but her favorite place remains Regency England. She currently lives in Ontario, Canada. The Governess Club series is her first published work.

I have seen The Governess Club in my recommendations but have avoided them as I didn't want to start a new series. Then I read a review of Claire and I couldn't resist temptation.
I glad I bought this book as it has all the elements of a classic romance and a few twists to make it really great.
I find a lot of romances, especially those of the historical variety, with a governess as the main character tend to spend too much time on the children's problems and not enough romance. This book got the balance perfect without having too much or to little of the children involved.
In a few words the author gets across the attitude towards governesses and children at the time the story is set. I love the one sentence where Claire explained how to tell the twins apart as the father had the ear of one clipped so there would be no confusing who was the heir later in life.
I loved the characters in this book and can't wait to read more of this series.

This is the first book in a new series and if it is representative of the quality of the stories, I can't wait for the next one. The story is well written and well edited with very few typos or other editing errors. The characters are interesting and there is good character growth and development in the story. The plot was not too complicated, but it introduced the series well.

This is a good romance between a governess and the new tutor who arrives to help prepare the two young boys in the family for subjects taught in private schools, Latin and Greek and higher maths. The governess, Claire, still teaches the three girls and works with the tutor, Philip, on etiquette and manners. When Claire and Philip get involved, things get complicated, because there's a little more to him than just a tutor.

I liked that this book dealt primarily with people from the "lower orders". Not everyone is a peer, and of course, the governesses are gentlewomen who must make their own way. This book does have some sexual scenes and a bit of violence.

Heat factor moderate.

First publishing from this author and well done. Nice writing, creation of character's with some depth. It is sometimes difficult to create intelligent, wit and more than just a peek into the soul of the character's with a short story, but this author did a fair job of it. Going to read Bonnies story and see if this author continues to grow. Recommended.

I liked this story with the interactions between Claire and Jacob in the lord's
household even as they have misunderstandings. Has a steamy love scene
so Adults 18+ only. Must read.

Governess' s lives were definitely not this gloriously interesting and happy BUT then we wouldn't' t be reading about them. I admired Claire for fortitude as a character in rEgency but had to shake my head at what she put Jacobthrough presumably to prove he was seriously in LOVE with her.or perhaps that he was A CHANGED man. Anyway I was drawn in by their conflict and their story told. very believable and compelling way I enjoyed this book, recommend it highly, and eagerly awaiting its sequels.

FWPUNKNOWN.

This was a very good book. Can't wait to read more by this author. Fell in love with the characters. Full of scandals, adventure, romance and all the elegance of regency novels. Would love to see another book about Claire and Jacob and the governess club. Happy reading everyone!

I had many issues with this novella. It was just poorly plotted and researched.
- I didn't find the hero particularly likeable nor believable.
- It felt like the author was trying to pack a novel's worth of plot into a shorter format, most of it poorly developed.
- Glaring modernisms, e.g. the heroine uses the term "self-actualization", a twentieth century concept.
- The author messed up titles totally. A second son does not have a courtesy title and is not a peer. And aside from that, as the son of a duke, he would be called "Lord Jacob Knightly" not "Mr. Knightly". Do a little research!
- The hero at the beginning has been cut off by his father, then later magically is wealthy and can buy an estate.
- Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I just did not buy the connection and love between the hero and heroine.

The overall concept for this series was great - I personally couldn't give it five stars because the stories could have had more in-depth personality development without all of the unnecessary sex. That is just my personal preference but it did not add anything to the stories for me.

four Governess each of their stories are different, but they all come together at the end. I really liked this group of stories. I couldn't put the books down read all four in 3 days, had to stop to eat. I would recommend these books.

I thought it was a nice enough read and relatively well written. I read this book because it's first in the series after reading No 3 Sara, I preferred No. 3 because it seemed more in-depth and a slightly longer story. These books are more Novella's than novels. Just about to start on No. 2 Bonnie

Muy entretenido. Definitivamente "cute" es el adjetivo perfecto para describirlo. No tiene mucho fundamento histórico pero no me ha chocado.
Una lectura cortita y agradable, sin mucho drama y con momentos muy divertidos gracias a los niños.
