The Brandenburger Commandos: Germany's Elite Warrior Spies in World War II (Stackpole Military History Series) Kindle Edition
This WWII history chronicles the exploits of an elite German spy unit and offers a rare look into the secret operations of Hitler's military.
Directed by the German Army’s intelligence service, the Brandenburgers became legendary for their brutally efficient clandestine operations. Trained to be quick, mobile, and self-reliant and steeped in local customs and languages, they operated behind enemy lines around the world. Across the battlefronts of the Second World War—from Western Europe to Romania, Russia, Egypt, Afghanistan, and beyond—they seized bridges and other strategic targets; engaged in sabotage, espionage, and other daring missions; and often disregarding the rules of war in the process. Although the unit was dissolved in 1944, its tactics influenced special forces around the world both during the war and after.Customers who bought this item also bought

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2012A wonderful informative book that is well written and has a lot of detail. I found it very helpful when I wanted to know more about this elite group that my father belonged to. I would love to have had more detail on the mission to Island Osel in Estonia as my father was one of the survivors of this mission that was a disaster. However, I was able to find out many of the things I was looking for. Highly Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2014A detailed account of a relatively obscure subject. Tends to get tedious at times, but covers some info that most students of military history are unaware of. I'm glad I bought this book, suspect you might be also.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2014As a history nut with a special interest in World War II I had often heard about this group in passing but rarely with any details. This book takes you from inception to the demise of these specialists. Their feats on the Russian Front were amazing. A must for those interested in the European Theatre of the War.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2007A very good book to add to your WW II collection. Tells the story about a unit's of the German Elite Warrior Spies in WW II, and how they fought for Germany in many parts of the world.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2013Found these obscure operations to be interesting...major flaw is lack of maps to provide sense of movement and locations of forces...Kindle is great for reading, not so much for maps....B
