Her best friend in danger, a young woman’s search for her will take her into the dark heart of New York’s criminal underground—and into the arms of an unlikely hero
The lovely heiress to an olive oil empire, Donna Miro is gravely worried about her best friend, Lorna, who seems to be missing. Having traveled to New York to find the missing Lorna, Donna finds herself trapped in the city’s seedy underbelly—until an unexpected man comes to her aid. Father Luke Trudeau, the most unusual priest she has ever met, has the mouth of a sailor and the brawn to go with it. Luke offers Donna help, and he seems to know things about the city—and the dangerous people in it—that might lead them to Lorna. But how can Donna trust this beguiling stranger when all along he has seemed to know more than he is letting on? This ebook features an illustrated biography of Heather Graham including rare photos from the author’s personal collection.

As usual, this author delivers a great story!

Donna is so stubborn. When her friend disappears, she goes to New York to find her. No one wants to help her. When she goes into a dangerous area, a man comes to her rescue. Luke is a priest and knows the area well. When he sees a woman being robbed, he steps in. She is a beautiful woman and seems intelligent, but she seems to have no sense of her own personal safety. Luke seems to know all about her friend, Lorna, but he isn't talking. If she can get him to help, can she trust him? He may be a priest, but she isn't sure that he is trustworthy. Will she find her friend?

This was written over 30 years ago, at the beginnings of her career. She got much better later. This was too wordy, as far as the love story went, but a good story.

Donna goes to New York City to find her friend, Lorna. Mystery surrounds everyone she meets as she tries to find Lorna. She finally meets Father Luke who seems to know of the man, Andrew McKennon, whom Lorna spoke of in her last letter but Father Luke reveals little. Being a well-brought-up Catholic girl, Donna is appalled by her feelings and awareness of Father Luke. What is she to do? Will she find Lorna or must she do as Father Luke says and ask no questions, take it on blind faith?

The story was okay. I liked Luke but he was mysterious and with a little more trust on both sides some of the complications in their relationship could have been avoided. Donna was harder for me to like. She was not as developed for me. The relationship between them moved very quickly so it was hard for me to believe their feelings were so deep that marriage came up as quickly as it did especially since Luke had suffered a serious loss in his life. This is not my favorite story by Heather Graham.

Good story line. Just enough romance without distraction from the mystery. Good lead characters. Very good use of setting to add to the mystery and suspense.
