Cruise Ships: The World's Most Luxurious Vessels Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

The stunning elegance and luxurious interiors of todays vast fleet of cruise liners remains unrecorded in all but holiday brochures. This book gives a complete overview of the cream of these ships, todays queens of the sea. Each liner is illustrated and described with color illustrations of external and interior views. Details of the design, building and service history of each vessel are provided with vital statistics of the ship and its facilities.Among the ships included are Cunards Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2, the big new Princess Line liners—Ruby, Grand Sea and Celebrity Eclipse, the two Ocean Village ships and the largest of the P&O liners Ventura, Oceana, Arcadia, Aurora and Artemis. This is a book of reference for maritime enthusiasts, would-be holiday cruisers and those who have been passengers.

Cruise Ships was very well written. Very complete with a lot of great photos. I got it as a gift, but went through it before I wrapped it. My friends loved it.

I thought there would be great images inside the ships. This was a list of facts. That's fine, but should have been shared. The gift recipient was happy that's the only thing that saved the sale.

Anyone who writes about "the world's most luxurious vessels" and puts a photo of a Carnival ship on the cover obviously does not know what he is writing about. Carnival is the world's most mass market cruise line; there is nothing luxurious about it. They don't pretend to be luxurious. They are so successful at cruises for the masses that they bought most of the truly luxurious cruise lines and let them go after the upscale business under their own brand names (Cunard, Holland America, etc).

Exterior photographs of boats, stats on boats, boats on boats. No luxury detailed, boats, boats, boats. Did I happen to mention that this volume is full of dull no food, just boats. Not ships. Boats.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but lacking pictures.

A well researched book and as the author says one that will be added to over the years, however, whilst it was fascinating to see the ship's from the outside there were no photos of the interiors which from a passengers point of view is surely the most important part. Still enjoyable especially if you like your facts and figures. (I personally found it very interesting reading the names of the people who christened the ship's, some very unlikely people amongst them!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

I ordered this for a present and was very disappointed when it arrived. Much smaller than I had expected and at least the first half of the book consisted of nothing more than pages and pages showing a small picture of each boat and a dull list of features. I had hoped the book would be much more in depth on the ships, contain far more photos and provide information which would help readers decide which would suit their holiday best. Instead this is basically the equivalent of a trainspotter guide for cruise ships.

The book gives much information about cruise ships and has many good photos. I think this information cannot be found in other books.

I purchased this ebook for use on my iPad and it downloaded with no problems. The book is very useful although I would had preferred a 2014 version and not 2010. Will keep a look out for the newer version when it becomes available for downloading.
